We loved the house!

We stayed at the house for a wonderful week’s vacation. We had a great time all around, but it was the house that made it such a special time for us. A little bit of background. We are a family of four: Two working “Type A” parents, me, the avid boater and outdoors type, my lovely wife the avid reader (read: not the outdoors type!), her precocious 9 year old son, and my so smart 14 year old daughter. In other words, a family of four with very different vacation agendas. We all loved it, and the house was a huge part of what brought us together and made it such a great vacation. We lounged around on the comfy Adirondack chairs overlooking the water, went to the beaches, went tubing and water skied all around the bays, walked around town looking for every ice cream shop, rode bikes, visited wine country and the farm stands, and so much more. Best of all was the house, for starting and ending our days. It’s so inviting to eat out on the dockside deck, whether breakfast, dinner, or just relaxing with appetizers and cocktails as the sun goes down. We got fresh fish, meats and vegetables and loved to grill them all up and stay home for dinner. The times we did go out there were plenty of great places to choose from, all just a short car (or boat!) ride away. We played board games until we couldn’t keep our eyes open, and just generally spent a lot of time laughing, having fun, and relaxing. Inside, the house is very clean and comfortable. It has all of what it takes to meet your needs, with plenty of towels, a well-stocked kitchen, wireless internet and cable TV. During our week it was very sunny & hot, and it was great to have the A/C to cool off. No review of this house would be complete without mentioning how ideal it is from a boater’s point of view. If you don’t have a boat, it’s a great place to stay. If you do have a boat, this is paradise! The big beautiful dock is right outside your door. It’s the lap of luxury for a boat of any size. Gull Pond is amazingly well protected, and the short ride in or out is lined with beautiful homes and interesting boats. Best of all is how accommodating the owners are. They really want to do what they can to help you enjoy your stay. At the end of our week we were very nervous about riding our boat across Long Island Sound in the rough water kicked up by a passing storm. The owners very graciously let us leave our boat until the storm passed. We had a great vacation, loved the house, and hope to be back again!

Owner response:Thank you for your kind comments. You remind us of why we purchased this home, and bring to light the things we take for granted like walking to Sep's farm stand for fresh vegetables, pulling into Alice's dock for today's catch or having marinated steaks butchered at Wayside. And yes, the house offers a unique mix of safe harbor and easy access to Eastern Long Island's and Southern New England's best cruising grounds. As for the water front Adirondack chairs, there is nothing better then sitting in there, looking as the stars with your favorite companion (person, libation or smoke) and taking it all in. We know we will see you again at sea or on "The Fork" and look forward to your next visit.

Perfect Location

Guest: North Forkie (NY)
Date of Stay: 02/18/11 Review Submitted: 02/26/11

We stayed at this house for a weekend and wish it could've been longer. The house is so comfortable and in the perfect location! Located just 1 mile from the village, its close enough to get there in a minute, but just far enough to be away from the activity. Bob is very accomodating and responds quickly to every question. The house was spotless and very welcoming - from the cozy fireplace to the waterview from the livingroom to dining on the dock to the comfortable bed we collapsed in after a full day out on the fork. There is a helpful house manual chock full of places to go, things to do, where to eat etc. One weekend was just not long enough, so we'll be back :)

Owner response:Thank you for coming to visit and I am glad you guys had a good time, enjoyed the house, Greenport and the wineries we suggested. We look forward to your return and hopefully on your next visit you will have time to get in a round or two of golf.

Great house, wonderful owner

I rented this house with a group of friends over Memorial Day weekend and we had a great time. The house is very clean and comfortable, the back deck is fantastic. We had perfect weather and ended up spending most of our time outside sunning, tanning, cooking, eating and drinking wine. The beach is very close to the house—I jogged in about 10 minutes. If you’re not a jogger it’s just as easy to canoe or drive. I hadn’t spent any time on the North Fork and Greenport is a perfect town for an introduction to the area. The house is so affordable that it allowed us to be as decadent as we wished on food and entertainment. Bob is incredibly accommodating and gracious. We booked the house on very short notice and when we arrived everything was ready to go—he even offered to stop in before we got there to turn the air conditioner on for us. He pointed me in the right direction to find the paddles for the canoe, gave us restaurant recommendations and generally did everything that he could to make sure we enjoyed ourselves. I’ve booked the house again for another long weekend later this month and am looking forward to returning.

A trip back in time

Guest: Alyson (New York, NY)
Date of Stay: 06/25/10 Review Submitted: 06/29/10

This place was perfect for many reasons, I'm sure. But- our group was there for a civilized shower/bachelorette weekend and it was perfect. The retro (is it still retro if it's genuinely from the time period?) appliances brought back memories of childhood and all worked just fine! The bay window was beautiful, looking out on the water. We enjoyed the outside and inside of the house- perfect for cooking big meals and lounging around watching movies. We also made use of the 4 bikes by trekking to a few vineyards. Very comfortable. Thanks!

Owner response:We are thrilled you had a great weekend, the house is a short walk to Skipper's, Island's End Golf and the Hellenic Snack Bar and Restaurant. A quick bike into Greenport's village and as Alyson's group did a vineyard tour by bicycle. You could also head East and bike to the Orient Point State Park which has great beaches and play ground for kids.

We stayed here for a week vacation. The two of us our two teenagers 14 year old daughter, 16 year old son and our daughter's 14 year old friend. We have rented in the Hampton's before and wanted something more low key and relaxing. The house was certainly that. There is somthing about being right on the water that is very relaxing .The house is simple and comfortable but has everything you need. There are plenty of towels and linens, the kitchen is well stocked and there is internet, board games and videos. The charming town of Greenport is just minutes away. Greenport itself has a selection of good restaurants (menus and #'s in the house) It also has special ice versus ice cream parlour we were all addicted to. It was a very relaxing house to stay in I only wish I have my own boat next time I rent it. What also makes it more special is the owners are so nice and acommodating

Over the winter we completed a family room renovation that gives additional lounging space and a second large TV to give separation from people resting/relaxing in the living room.

Labor Day weekend 2009

Guest: tkdgirl (Ny, Ny)
Date of Stay: 09/03/09 Review Submitted: 10/01/09

We stayed here over the labor day weekend with our 1 year old daughter and my parents. Had a generally good time as much as possible with a very mobile and energetic toddler. Bob was very nice and accomodating of our needs. We had originally talked about an entire weekend rental, but, he was nice enough to let us shorten our stay and also be flexible in when we could come out. When we got there we realized that the baby crib is no longer in the house and I hadn't packed our portable crib. Would have been a nightmare had Bob not been so gracious to call his parents who live close by and arrange for us to borrow the pack 'n play. The house itself, though not renovated, has its own charm and character by all the personal knick knacks added by the owners. It is very comfortable, nice and clean and has all the amenities. It has a well-stocked kitchen, lots of towels and linens and wireless internet that my husband was able to use to work out of the house. Also, lots of board games that we made full use of. The backyard and the waterfront area is fabulous. This is the part of the house that we all loved the most especially our daughter who could run around to her heart's content. The waterfront area made me wanna own a boat! All in all a nice time!

Owner response:We are thrilled you had a good time and are pleased that we were able to help with your daughter's sleeping arrangements. The house is a special place so we are glad you enjoyed its comfort and amenities. The water is as addictive as it is calming. Remember arrangements for a boat (with or w/o a captain can always be arranged). We look forward to hosting you again. Bob

Date of Stay: 06/21/09 Review Submitted: 07/08/09

We based ourselves here post the US golf open, despite having pretty dismal weather we thouroughly enjoyed our stay at the house. The facilities of the house were more than capable of keeping us entertained whilst the worst of the weather passed. The location of the house is excellent, with vineyards and an excellent very reasonably priced golf course literally accross the road from the end of Gull Pond. Greenport itself is a beautiful little town and the ferry ride to Shelter and further on to the South Fork are excellent day trips. We spent a number of evenings using the excellent outdoor facilities at the house overlooking the pond, resisting giving in to the weather we even cooked two BBQ's in the rain whilst under an umbrella. One of the highlights came from a friendly neighbour who took us for a ride on his boat over to Sunset Beach, you really get to see the benefits of the deck at the back of the house. Next time I'm bringing a boat to park out back!

Owner response:I am glad you all had a good time. When the weather does not cooperate we go wine tasting at one of the North Fork's over 30 vineyards. Please do bring the boat next time or one can be rented from Strong's Marine in Mattituck (they have daily and weekly rates). The actor Harrison Ford got his boat there when he was in town. Thank you for sharing your experience, we were pleased to host you and look forward to your return. Bob
