If you enjoy nature and want to experience the uniqueness of life on the bayou, this is the perfect vacation home. Located on seven acres this rustic home on a cypress swamp. It is a prime area for birding and wild life. You can fish from your back porch. The style of the house is reminiscent of the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright, complete with a rainwater-fed pond underneath the deck that adjoins the two separate wings of the lower level. It is located on seven acres with natural foliage with a wooden pathway to the dock that is on Bayou Liberty. The front of the cedar home is covered in vines and faces the pool, the back of the home faces the bayou. Lake Pontchartrain is a short boat ride away where speckled trout is the desired catch of the day. Bring your boat and use the boat house, or use the flat boat to troll down the canal which leads to the bayou.

The home is located on two levels. The lower level is handicap accessible via a ramp . The lower level is divided into two wings by the walkway over the pond and stairs to the upper level. There is a Corinthian wind chime hanging from the stairs near a large fountain in the pond.
The north wing has one queen sized bedroom with a private balcony, and a small second bedroom with a double bed. This wing also has a full bathroom. The south wing has one queen size bed, living room with a fireplace, large handicap accessible bathroom and fully furnished kitchen on the glass porch. This level has the quickest access to the pool. The pool is surrounded by hedges on one side and the home on the other. The water pool is shaded by an oak tree, and remains cool throughout the summer. Each level has a washer and dryer.

The spacious master bedroom on the upper level has a king size memory foam bed, walk in closet, and full sized bathroom. and private balcony overlooking the bayou. This bedroom also has a 42' HDTV with most of the movie channels.
The living room has three sofas (one a futon), a wood burning fireplace, a 61 inch HDTV, and a large balcony overlooking the bayou, perfect for sunsets, or coffee in the mornings. It is also a great place from which to birdwatch. Blue Herons, Egrets, Osprey, woodpeckers, eagles, and migratory ducks are just a few of the birds which have been sited here. On this level, all the windows face the bayou. Adjacent to the kitchen and living room is a formal dining room.
The home is close enough to visit New Orleans or just stay at home and enjoy the serenity of the bayou and pool. It is the perfect place for family reunions or getting together with a few friends..girls getaway...or a relaxing rendezvous for a fishing trip. For larger parties, please see the listing for the Marsh House which is just down the road, or just down the bayou depending on how you travel.

We just arrived from a six night stay at the Jabberwocky house. We chose this home for the simple fact that it was the only one we could find in the area, that was handicap accessible. We were bringing my father on vacation and he is in a wheelchair. When we arrived, we were not disappointed. There were four of us. Myself, my husband, my father, and his caretaker. The layout could not have been better for all of us to be together, but to also have privacy. We didn't realize upon reading the description, that we all had SEPARATE wings. At first, we were nervous, as we didn't know how my father could reach his caretaker, since she was in a completely different wing. No worries though, the telephone has an intercom system. Very easy to use. The bayou is filled with turtles and we even had our own alligator, that we fed almost daily. The only thing I would say, that was slightly negative, is that this house has lived thru Hurricane Katrina. The house does show some signs of this, like in the upstairs bathroom. The shower/tub enclosure was a mess. It was moldy and I didn't like that at all. The owner, has done a lot of work on the place, and continues to keep it up. That being said, it was perfect for our group and we loved every minute of it. My father, 81, was able to fish off the back porch and really loved being outdoors there and marveling at the nature. We were a quick drive, 35 minutes, to New Orleans, and the trip is very easy. If we every head back, we will definitely keep our fingers crossed that the Jabberwocky House will be available.

My husband and I wanted a vacation spot readily accessible to ourselves and our grandchildren. We selected this home based solely on photos. When we arrived, we were surprised by how lovely the home and the surroundings were. The photos did not do it justice. Our family has decided that this will be our destination in the future and we are all looking forward to another stay.

My family (Mom, Sister, best friend, 2 teens girls, 4 kids) and myself just got home from a week at Jabberwocky. We miss it already. It was more than we expected. We each had our own area to be alone if needed and had the pool and patios to join in family fun. The home needed nothing as far as kitchen items. I wish my kitchen had such things!!! My 6 year old perfected his back dive in the pool. The pool was amazing, it was perfect for our 4 kids. They all had a wonderful time in it!!! The highlight of my 6 year olds trip was the gator that seems to call this part of the bayou home. We took trips to New Orleans daily and spent some time in Covington at the Insta-Gator Ranch. This trip was fabulous and the home made it percect!!!

My family and I spent a week at the Jabberwocky in early June. It was everything we had hoped for and more. It's a great headquarters for traveling to other destinations in Louisiana, and only a half of an hour from New Orleans. But it's difficult to want to travel when you're staying at this place. The house is right on the bayou and there is so much nature to enjoy all around you. There 's a family of big turtles living out back and from the deck you can see fish in the water. We even got to see a small alligator one morning. The design of the house was perfect for us, as my brother was traveling with us and the downstairs had an entire wing for him to use with all the amenities of a separate apartment. The pool was wonderful. The area was very safe. I would highly recommend the Jabberwocky for anyone that wants to really experience Louisiana life on the bayou while still enjoying all the comforts of home (and then some.)

We got away for a perfect quiet weekend in a beautiful, luscious setting. The house is unique, a great party setting, with separate living quarters that make it ideal for couples or extended family to have privacy as well as having a large area upstairs to eat and socialize. It was clean, well furnished, decorated stylishly with local artifacts and books. All of the furniture was comfortable and the bedding yummy. We watched the turtles, fish, alligators and ducks on the bayou, and there's a nature walk to the island out on to part of the property. We also spent lots of time at the pool, BBQing, cocktailing and having a great time. We were also lucky enough to have good friends on the Northshoretook us on a great boat ride up the bayou to show us the beauty of the area. It was a wonderful weekend, I'd recommend it to anyone.

We were a group of 9 people from Seattle who came as volunteers to work for a week on Habitat for Humanity houses in St. Taminy Parish. Jabberwocky was the perfect place for us to return to and relax each evening after a hard day's work. The setting of the house gives you a great appreciation for the bayou landscape. You are surrounded by beautiful trees and water with no other development in sight once you come through the gate. The house is unique....rustic, modern..with lots of different indoor and outdoor spaces for everyone. The pool is large and very inviting. There is a boathouse and dock right at the house and a trail across the swamp to a dock on the larger bayou. The pictures do not fully capture the beauty of the setting and the uniqueness of the house. Everyone in our group was delighted with their stay.

Owner response: Thanks Doug, I'm glad that you had a good stay. From myself and everyone who lives in South Louisiana thanks for your work!

This was the perfect place for our family to gather and find the time to relax as we prepared for our daughters wedding. The Jabberwocky provided an opportunity to explore the local bayou, enjoy the scenery, and photograph the wildlife. The kids enjoyed the pool daily. The house is set up so that people can find a place for their own quiet time or join others on the decks to enjoy the view. Everyone enjoyed the turtles and the guest appearance of a couple alligators. Everything about Jabberwocky was as listed in the listing. I would recommend this property to others that want to visit New Orleans but don't want the hassels of staying in the city.

Talk about a unique setting! This house has seen many functions and was a surprise when we took our first tour. It is a diamond in the rough, natural marshes of south Louisiana and has all the sights, sounds and vistas that the beautiful marshes can provide. The property was laid out with suitable access to bathroom facilities to each bedroom, ample room for a Thanksgiving meal for 10 and a large room for watching games. We had a putting green on the rose garden lawn, casting from two deck locations, a flat bottom boat for the adventurous, two kitchens for cold storage, outside grilling equipment, an elevator for our wheelchaired guest and a warm cozy woodburning fireplace for our elders to enjoy. A true adventure! We enjoyed it and will always remember our reunion at the Jabberwocky! The owner was most helpful and we would recommend this facility.

Our recent family reunion at Jabberwocky was enhanced by the beauty and serenity of the bayou. The house itself appears like something from a movie set. As you enter, the sounds of wind chimes and water have a calm welcoming effect lending itself to a home atmosphere as opposed to a generic hotel room. Things we enjoyed: Watching football on a huge flat screen TV next to a roaring fire. Fishing from the dock down below. Bird and wildlife watching. Or simply just sitting out on the upper deck sipping some wine and enjoying the peace and quiet. We all had a wonderful time and will always remember our Thanksgiving 2011.

I stayed at the Jabberwocky home for a month with my wife, three boys and in-laws. We could not have been happier with our stay. The home is spacious and had a wonderful charm to it. We spent our days swimming in the pool (my kids still talk about that pool!!!) and fishing (and crabbing) in the back on the bayou. You have many acres to yourself to enjoy bayou living in private. The location was perfect. We travelled to the French Quarter in New Orleans at least 3 times a week. It was about 45 minutes to the Gulf Coast for some gambling. We even enjoyed exploring the restaurants all along the North Shore. The owner really knows the area and gave us plenty of recommendations on what to do. We loved it so much we are even thinking about moving to the area.
