Relax in our lovely lake-front home with panoramic views of the lake, national forest and active osprey nest. You will love our extra-large screened porch (44'X12') with a dining table for 8, a sofa and chairs, swing and lounger. The two upstairs bedrooms have French doors with lake views, leading to the screened porch; both bedrooms have separate baths.

You can dine inside next to our fully equipped kitchen with island or put your feet up on the coffee table in front of the stone fireplace. Watch TV or DVD on upstairs flat-screened TV. Downstairs (a great place to locate the kids) is a separate bedroom and bath, and a gigantic game room with pool table, foos ball, exercise bike, DVD player and sleeper-futon. We have 3 boats you can use--a canoe, sit-on-top ocean kayak, and tandem kayak, with life jackets for all sizes. Roast marshmallows in our fire-pit by the lake, snooze in our hammock, dive off the deck or just sit and watch the sunset.

Deck has a table, bench and comfortable chairs for sunbathing. Our large, private wooded lot with 250' of shoreline is located on a cul-de-sac, an hour's drive from Atlanta. Ask about the key to the nearby gated boat ramp. Visit nearby Madison, named "Best Small Town in America" by Traveler's Magazine. This is the perfect spot for an easy, fun, and very relaxing vacation.

Lake Oconee is one of the best largemouth bass fishing lakes in the state of Georgia. Oconee is a Creek Indian word meaning “great waters”. With an estimated 433 pounds of fish per acre, it boasts nearly double of what is normally found in other middle Georgia lakes. The figure for largemouth bass is estimated at approximately 36 pounds per acre in Lake Oconee, while typically area lakes show 12 to 15 pounds per acre.Lake Oconee is the second largest lake located entirely in Georgia, with over 19,050 acres. Depths of up to 100 feet can be seen close to the dam, but the average depth is approximately 21 feet. Lake Oconee runs through Morgan, Greene and Putnam counties and is just north of its sister lake, Sinclair—to its south—separated only by Wallace Dam.

Because the lake is part of the Georgia Power hydro-electric system, the level is controlled and fluctuates little during the year. During the summer, there is movement in the lake level and this water movement triggers largemouth bass to feed, making the fishing very attractive during that time. The baitfish, especially shad, begin to move as the water level retreats. The bass follow the baitfish. Also, docks, with their pillars and cross members, create wonderful hiding and staging places for largemouth bass. Some docks may hold a dozen or more fish.

Why the Owner Chose Buckhead

We love being near water and bought this home to relax with our two sons. It is a great place for kids and teens who can spread out in the downstairs, leaving the adults to peace and quiet upstairs. Since it is a little over an hour's drive from Atlanta, we could go often and return refreshed after swimming, sunbathing and boating. This home has given us many happy vacations and we hope you will enjoy it as much as we do.

The Unique Benefits of this House

Near Atlanta. Famous for bass fishing. Lovely views. Swimming and boating. Relaxing. Hiking and biking.
