Absolutely Fabulous!

We rented this wonderful house for a week with friends in late September. We were a little apprehensive as we have never rented anything in France, although we have very successfully used VRBO for a number of other trips. The house looked and sounded wonderful online but it was even better than we hoped! It's a few km out of Sarlat in an rural area of rolling hills. We appreciated the distance from Sarlat which albeit lovely, is a busy town. Walking into town takes an enjoyable 1/2 hour to 45 min. or it's a very short drive. The location was totally private (we couldn't see neighbouring houses) and quiet with a beautiful view of the countryside and the setting sun from the very expansive terrace that has retractable awnings to provide shade. The noisiest thing was the sound of walnuts dropping onto a tiles roof next door. The owners live in an apartment downstairs but we felt we had all the privacy we could have wished for and their apartment doesn't open at all onto the back terrace/pool area. Unfortunately, our poor French limited our conversation with them but Madam provided the orientation to the house when we arrived and is a lovely person. We barely saw them after that. Our correspondence prior to arriving had been with Madam's secretary Catherine who was very efficient and promptly responded to any questions. The house was immaculately clean, beautifully furnished and perfectly equipped. There was nothing we could have wished for during our stay. For those who like to have some meals at home, the kitchen has high end appliances including a dishwasher and many lovely dishes and we had several wonderful meals with food from the amazing Sarlat market around the big harvest table in the kitchen and on the terrace overlooking the pool. We were also provided with provisions at the beginning of our stay, bread, eggs, cheese, yogurt, etc. which was very thoughtful. The pool was a bonus as it was hot while we were there and there are lots of comfortable chaise lounges and umbrellas. I truly can't recommend this house highly enough; it's a wonderful elegant retreat after a day of exploring the stunning area that is the Dordogne. It all felt like a bit of a dream while we were there. Merci beaucoup to Madam and Monsieur for sharing their gorgeous home and making our stay an unforgettable one!

We stayed at the property second week of September 2011. The house is immaculate, and beautifully furnished. Nicole has everything imaginable in the kitchen: appliances, spices, utensils, etc. She even stocks the refrigerator with eggs, yogurt, bread, etc. Outside the pool and the garden is spectacular. We ate all of our breakfests outside. Having Foi Gras, which by the way she provided in the refrigerator, in such surrounding with great French bread was pure heaven. We loved the place, the town......had a great time. We strongly recommend the place to the most demanding family. You will not be disappointed. We went to the nearby Chateaus, liked them all except Biron. Don't miss the Saturday/Wednesday market and if ambitious drive to Biarritz for a day trip. It's 4 hours each way but well worth it. The Grand Plage is incredible. Enjoy!!!
