My husband and I wanted to get away for our 5 year anniversary. We have a 22 month old so we didn't want to go too far. This house was the perfect getaway for us while still being less than 1.5 hours from home. Paul and Anne were wonderful hosts! They even made a special trip to the house to turn the hot tub on for us since it had been off for the season. We will keep them in mind for future vacations as this house is perfect for a family vacation too!

Even nicer inside than we expected. Plenty of space and privacy for my family of mom, dad, two teens plus dog, and a friend and her teen daughter, who joined us for a couple of days during the week. Especially loved the view, which has to be among the best on the lake, and the decor, which was well-maintained, comfortable, cozy and eclectic. Due to the warm weather and the kids coming down with a bug, we didn't have the opportunity to make use of all the winter toys available to us...but everything was there and ready. We did use the wood stove, with the wood provided, and loved both the smell and feeling toasty warm. Recommended.

The house was as described and had everything that we needed! Bonus: We made smores at night at the outdoor fire pit by the lake and skated on the frozen lake the next afternoon. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends. I intend on going back in the summer/fall and use the boats. But perhaps more than anything, I was incredibly impressed by the owner's response time to all of my questions via phone/email, before and during our stay. He provided an excellent customer service worthy of a high-end hotel management!

I and my 7 friends ( 4 young couples) had an amazing time at the Lake house on the New Year's weekend. It was already our second stay. Paul and Anne thought of everything you could possibly need to make you feel like at home. We could experience the hot tub, play games and relax by fireplace. We would recommend that place to everyone. You won't regret it. We hope to come back again.

We stayed here and attended the Keene Pumpkin festival! The house was exactly as pictured and described but...BETTER!!! The owner had left us pumpkin carving tools so that we could enter our own pumpkins for the festival! The communication with the owner was awesome too! Loved staying there none of us wanted to leave! Sooo beautiful!! Hoping to stay again for the next pumpkin festival to help break the record for carved lit pumpkins!!! Thank you soo much for an amazing memorable weekend!!

The Forest Lake home was much more than we expected! The photos do NOT do the home justice! The owners have made the home very welcoming and thought of every little detail - from hand-written welcome notes to the MANY things for every age group to do while there. The lake is small, but, very pretty and relaxing - we kayaked, canoed and peddled ourselves all around! Every inside amenity is available and our whole family (8 adults, 3 children) had our own bed and room to do as we liked, without tripping over each other! This home is a terrific place to spend time and forget about the "real" world!!! Thanks so much for renting your home to us!!!

This was one of our most memorable vacations. There's so much to do without leaving the property! Everything you need is there, and if you want a day out, there's many places to go that are just a short drive away. We drove to Keene for an afternoon - great shopping! We spent most of our time on the back deck by the water. My first time kayacking! Beautiful small lake with a sandy bottom. My husband fished every day, with great success. Very nice cottage - hope to go back next summer.

My husband, myself and our 10 mo old daughter were fortunate enough to come across this listing for our family vacation. First off, speaking with Paul was a breeze. He was very courteous and friendly. The home itself is gorgeous! What a great location on the lake. Abundant amenities to say the least.. they have everything you could possibly need, from books galore, games, bikes, ping pong, kayaks, canoe, paddleboat, fire ring, hammock, 3 decks, and a great little hot tub!! The home has a great kitchen, 2 separate living areas, a fun sunroom for kids etc. House was clean and well maintained, great owners to deal with. The description they provide is spot on, although the photos do not do the home justice. We would definitely recommend this property to families, couples, girls weekends etc. It is very suitable to all. We hope to return in the future!

My husband, in-laws, cousins & aunts & uncles had the most wonderful time. The house was big and well kept. It had everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable and fun. Sitting on the 3 decks looking at our own private dock and gorgeous view of the lake, it was truly a "little piece of heaven". So peaceful and relaxing, we could not have picked a better place to enjoy our family time together. The kids enjoyed the lake everyday and the adults appreciated the hot tub!! The house had everything we had hoped for. We will definitely be back!!!!!

My girl friends and I rented the house for a weekend getaway. It was absolutely perfect! We never even left the house. There was plenty to do durning the day, from sunning on the dock to taking out the canoe and paddle boats, to reading in the hammock. At night the large dinning table and ample couches in the living room provided space for some wine, board games, and karaoke. The house itself is gorgeous and has amazing views of the lake. We all said we would love to come back again!

My son and I spent his Spring break here. We had a wonderful time, even tho there was very little 'Spring' to the break...cold and rainy, even a little snow. And yet, the house was cozy, we rode bikes through the woods, read, and had ping pong competitions. It was relaxing, fun, and--despite the weather--just what we needed. Paul and Anne are wonderful hosts; gracious and accommodating. The house, overlooking a lake, is delightful.

The owners have a awesome array of equipment for use by their guests for summer and winter activities. There is plenty of everything for everyone, young and old to keep you entertained! The owners are wonderful to work with and very helpful and willing to work with you and your needs. My husband and myself highly recommend this place to everyone. A home away from home!! Paul & Anne Harris have thought of everything and go to every extent to make their guests feel wanted and welcomed. Our 1st "annual" Girls Weekend Away couldn't have been more perfect. Although the girls and I had every intention of taking full advantage of most of the outdoor amenties, bicycles, paddle boat, and canoe, we opted for relaxing, enjoying the view, playing board games, kicking back to watch a movie, and of course the hot tub! The Harris' provide tons on information regarding the local area, sometimes making decisions on where to go/what to do difficult to chose between! The house is warm and cozy. Everywhere you look you discover something new. Not cluttered at all, but full of intersting, useful, whimsical, comfortable decor. Thank you so much for such a wonderful stay. We can't wait to go back!! The Harris' are first class hosts. They are available to help in any way, and communication is active before, during and after your stay.

Pisgah State Forest is 5mins down the road and you can spend hours in there just looking at all the beautiful scenery. Forest Lake was stunning, we took a kayak ride at 9am and it was so peaceful and beautiful. Our dogs absolutely loved it! The house itself has so much to do, we couldn't believe everything they had available for the people who stay there. You couldn't possibly get bored here. We stayed the week of July 31 2010. Our 2 families combined for a total of 12 adults (18 & over) and 3 dogs, never did we complain of being over crowded. There was something for everyone to do, the dock was a great place to catch the sun, the multiple boats provided entertainment for some, while the TV with ALL sports & movies, wireless internet and the great views on the deck, provided entertainment for the rest. Everyone had something they enjoyed to do. Watching our 4 college age boys play king of the floating dock was most enjoyable. Having a full kitchen with dishwasher provided for a great experience of home cooked meals with easy clean up. Being able to recycle meant a lot for a "green" thinking family. The only thing to consider would be the many steps up & down to the lake, we didn't have a problem, but my father in law's visit kept him on an upper deck. Paul & Ann couldn't have been more personable, leaving a note & bowl of fresh fruit to welcome us. We hope to return every other year as our family grows! Thank you again from both of our families! Pictures don't do it justice

Paul and Anne have done a tremendous job of providing for any contingency, and are readily available to answer any questions. We will definitely return next summer after another year of teaching.

Paul and Ann are wonderful hosts and very helpful. We've stayed at their homes twice now and have been extremely pleased with each property that we visited with our boys and dogs. It's so nice to be able to get away with the whole family and stay in homes with full amenities and close to lots of activities, yet in quiet locations both on lakes. The full kitchen allowed us to cook at the house and meant not running out for every meal! We highly recommend the larger families or groups and certainly anyone with pets. I hope to visit again!

This home was perfect for my group of 6 this weekend. All the comforts of home and then some made it very easy to be there with room enough for everyone. The decor of the home was also fun haveing little things tucked in every nook and cranny! An adventure in every corner. The hot tub was a bonus this time of year. The close proximity to grocery, harware store, pharmacy, gas etc makes it very convenient while still feeling like a get-away place. Very serene view of the lake with the morning sun coming in to awaken your soul. The sunset was amazing and added to the ambiance! Try this house out and I promise you'll want to come back! Thank you Paul and Ann for opening your home to us- can't wait for the next weekend!

Dear Paul and Anne... Though we live on beautiful Cape Cod, it is always such a treat to escape to the mountains for a week away. Your "retreat house" is a perfect spot for doing just that! With all the comforts (and more) of home, along with a lakeside dock equipped with kayaks and a canoe, the big hot tub after a swim, and a cozy firepit area for an evening gathering, who could want for more? My only complaint was that our week flew by much too quickly!! Thanks for sharing your home-in-the-hills with all of us!

This is our second stay at your wonderful Forest Lake house. The first was 12/20-30/2008 and was better than described on your website. Great to be back in NH after 5 years in FL. Lucy, the dog, loved the snow. We just completed our second stay at Forest Lake before, during and after our daughter's wedding at Wilson Pond in Keene. The minute I walked through the front door I felt a peace and calm come over me and felt that all wedding plans and expectations would fall into place, and they did!!! Even the weather cooperated. Our family has decided that we will definitely be "renter repeaters" whenever possible. Thank you Paul and Anne for your wonderful home and your attention to detail. We lacked for nothing. It was great to see everything leafed out and green as opposed to covered in snow back in Dec '08. Beautiful any time of the year. We can't wait to come back! The Whaley Pod

A wonderful get-away. We stayed for three nights and wished we could have stayed for longer. The house is tucked away in New Hampshire alongside a beautiful lake. The house had just the right amount of space for our 3 couple group, though we could have comfortably fit more. We loved the great cathedral ceiling living room/dining area. There is a fully functional & stocked kitchen--we made all of our meals there plus one on the outdoor grill. The outdoor hot-tub was a fun spot, and easily fit 6 peeps. The lake itself entertained us for hours, cayaking/canoeing/paddle-boating. The place is private enough that you have your own space, but is not so remote that you never see neighbors. It was just right for us. Paul & Anne (the owners) were also very responsive to any questions/concerns we had, and were very helpful in all phases of the rental. We hope we can make it back.

There ar e kayaks, canoes, pedal boats, bikes, basketball, dvds, hot tub and alot more. Paul and Anne are very hospitable and great to work with. We've rented many places over the years and this one was the best -- by far! Our 15 yr. old son loved making fires in the wood stove. The kids' room was a God send with their own tv and vcr. Our kids also loved the ping pong, darts and air hockey in the basement. We took the kayaks out a couple of times and the paddle boat. The whole property was beautifully decorated, very inviting and very cozy. We felt completely at home and will definetly return; perhaps when the weather is a little bit warmer.

We had a wonderful time at the house! We weren't sure it would be as good as described on-line, but it certainly was. The British members of our group commented many times on how wonderfully "kitted out" the place was. We were two couples, two six-year-olds and a teenager and there was more than enough space and things to do for all of us, despite the fact that it rained much of the time. When it wasn't raining we had a wonderful time taking the boats out on the lake. We would love to come back in other seasons. We also wanted to mention how much we appreciated the fact that you compost and recycle. Those are things that are important to us as well.

Perfect place to get away for a weekend. They have everything you'd need, and the deck is FOUR levels, something that is under-represented in the photos. We just returned from a weeks stay at the Harris' lake home and had a great time. We have a niece who lives in Keene, NH and chose this property to be close to her. We enjoyed our stay the home is warm and inviting and large enough so that everyone could have their own "space". The fall foilage was goregous we explored the Cannon Mountain area, went "backroading" through Vermont and spent a day in Gloucester, Mass where we went on the 7 Seas whale watching adventure...fabulous time with over 50 whales sighted that day! Had my 88 year old Mother along and she had no problem walking the steps to the lake. We would certainly reccommend this home to anyone.

Paul & Anne - The Forest Lake house was more than we could have expected. We sent other family members up first as our son was competing in the Little League World Series. We called to see if they made it and the response was a resounding you are going to love this place. The kids enjoyed the lake so much that my brother in law hardly saw them. When we arrived 4 days later I was pleasantly suprised with everything. I couldnt ask for a better end to our summer other than Shelton Winning the World Series but the smiles on the kids faces when we told them we were coming back in 2009 made it all worth it. Thanks again for your well wishes and sucha fabulous home. See you in 2009.

my husband is a very picky person. he doesn't like to go out to eat because he cooks better than anybody (so he thinks and who does the clean-up?) so when we arrived at this house he was pleasantly surprised. it had everything he needed to feel like home.(even spices) we will be booking another stay soon. its bigger than the pictures show and if the pink walls offend they are no longer there. it is wonderfully decorated and you feel comfortable no matter what room your in. its a great place to stay thank you paul and anne. see you next yr.

If, like we did, you are reading these comments to help you decide whether to take a chance on this rental, think no more! Paul and Anne have provided a friendly, warm, beautiful, and incredibly relaxing place to stay. We have stayed twice and will go back. It was too early in the season for swimming, but sitting in the hot tub gazing at the sun (or moon) setting on the lake surely cured what ailed us! And a special feature, for us, is that they welcome pets. Being able to bring our dog with us on vacation made us all happy. Plus, being so close to Keene is fun, because it's a college town so has quite a variety of fun places for dining and shopping.

Paul & Anne - What a great find! Your house was the perfect place to enjoy a week away with family. We were celebrating my parent's 40th anniversary & our 1st anniversary. Great days & nights hanging by the hottub, going for a canoe ride, fishing, walking, sitting in front of the outdoor fireplace, cooking great meals.... It was all just so easy - which was exactly what we all needed! Thanks again!
