What a fantastic house in a great neighborhood!

I cannot fathom anyone giving less than 5 stars! I have had groups under my charge stay in rentals for almost a decade now, and this is one of the most unbelievably nice houses that we have encountered. The area is nice and safe, there are amenities such as Trader Joe's and BART nearby, and the owners were great! Many people accept the limitations of San Francisco properties, but only a few minutes of travel will allow you to have a significantly better time in a significantly better place with a significantly lower rate in terms of cost. A vehicle would help, of course, but anything and everything can be done on foot and public transportation, and some real classic diners from the 50's, such as Val's, is not far away. Being in the East Bay means that you are that much closer to the Factory Outlets of Napa and Vacaville as well being really close to the Great Mall of the Bay Area and the Asian Mega-Mall that is Milpitas Square. About an hour or away is the Gilroy Factory Outlets and Monterey ( Cannery Row and the Incredible Monterey Bay Aquarium ) and Carmel is just over the hills from there. The San Jose area and Silicon Valley can be accessed over less crowded bridges or simply by driving southwards without going over any bridges, a real life-saver if there are any delays on the bridges. For wine-lovers, the South Bay has many wineries, from the little known but great wineries ( like Cooper-Garrod ) to the well-known ( Ridge and Testarossa ). If one fancies what locals call "Black BBQ", the hot spot is in Oakland but they abound in all styles and forms around the entire Bay Area. Jazz fanciers will recognize the Fillmore name in the City proper, but the real prize is Yoshi's in Oakland, only about 15 minutes away by car and also easily found via BART and shuttle. Accessing anything in San Francisco is by BART on the whole, but taking the Ferry from nearby Alameda saves a lot of hassles. Another plus is the closeness of all the amenities that Alameda and Bay Farm Islands offer, including the incomparable USS Hornet tour, the only aircraft carrier available in the world for public visit. Many gourmets and epicures consider the easy to get to Berkeley and the famed Rockridge district of Oakland as being superior to anywhere else in the USA. In short, a great place in a great area, where one can spend time in luxury and comfort, for a most reasonable amount. Absolute TOP recommendations!!

We are native to this area and know it well and have frequented many of the places you mentioned but when promoting our home they don't come to mind!Thank you and we look forward to you returning.

Thanksgiving weekend at Castro valley

We were a group of 5 families. Enjoyed our stay together very much. House has 6 bed rooms so we could use the master bedroom as our common room. Good location and amenities.

Big and Beautiful

It is a big and beautiful house. It is very elegant and filled with details. The master bedroom is just amazing. It was very easy to get to San francisco every day; we never caught traffic in our way in or out to SF, so it was a great idea to stay at Castro Valley during our San Francisco trip. There are a lot of restaurants and stores near the house. It is the perfect location to stay during a San Francisco trip.

Owner response:This was a last minute booking. We only had a small window open during August and fit there needs perfectly. There where 10 traveling in a van around California. Our home is the perfect location to get to all major San Francisco Bay Area attractions in 30 to 45 minutes.
