Our stay at Harbourwood, was spectacular, the view of the Lake was wonderful. My Family and I really liked the Staff, they were present to check us in and was very hospitable. Fred the grounds keeper, was great! Everyone was so professional, yet made you feel like family. Harbourwood was a home away from home, It is so peaceful and beautiful here. Defintley going back soon!!!!

Harbourwood seemed like the perfect place for our holiday family get-together. The location was centralized between all of our homes. It was spacious - advertised as having six bedrooms and five bathrooms. The rental process was easy enough, and the owner was always responsive to our inquiries. But when we arrived, we were surprised by a few things. The layout of the home, while spacious, didn’t really seem to match what was advertised. Two of the “bedrooms” were obviously not originally bedrooms and lacked easy access to a bathroom. Of the four available bathrooms, only two had shower facilities. This was not made clear in the advertisement and it took some adjustment for our party of 11, which included a number of married couples. There were several other surprises concerning temperature control, plumbing, electrical and internet capabilities. Again we made the necessary adjustments. We all felt that if a friend had lent us the place for the weekend in order to have our family gathering it would have felt different. We would have enjoyed the quirky qualities more and laughed at the odd arrangements, but since this is a rental property with money changing hands for the opportunity to stay, there are certain expectations that seem to go along with that. Then again, this was our first VRBO experience, so maybe we need to adjust our level expectation in the future. Our experience with the staff at Harborwood was mixed. We enjoyed meeting and getting to know Fred, the groundskeeper. Fred was very helpful when we needed an air mattress, and he also tried to adjust the temperature for us. The property managers, on the other hand, didn’t make themselves visible, and we were unable to reach them by phone after an initial conversation. There are other people living in the home, but we probably bothered them more than they bothered us. It is a family member who is being cared for on the property and we honor Robert Harbour for taking care of his loved ones. Overall, we thought that Harbourwood had fantastic potential. If you read the guestbook, you can see that other groups seemed to love it. But honestly, we thought that if the owner invested in just a few key interior areas of the home (like mattresses, bedding, heck, even organizing the drawers) we would have had a much more pleasant vacation experience. The outside of the home was beautiful. We got a fresh coat of snow to make it look even more pristine.

We had previously rented this property and decided to rent again as we knew it would be the perfect place for our family's birthday celebrations (which it was!). We had a fabulous time with friends and family; enjoyed great food (cooked in the spectacular kitchen) and lots of laughs on the expansive deck. All out guests were amazed at this wonderful place! Fred (the caretaker on the property) was most helpful and always there if/when you needed him. There was a little misunderstanding regarding the number of people allowed, but was able to get it resolved in a timely manner. If you plan to have more than 14 guests, be sure to communicate with the owner the details in advance so everyone is on the same page and you too will have a fantastic time at Harbourwood!

Owner response: Thank you for coming back and thank yo for the head's up on the number of people--It is helpful to get the word out in print so people see that we are amenable but still have to stick to that number to maintain the health of the septic system; And, like we spoke of the alternative of portolets are available for larger numbers who want to book. Again, thank you!

We had a very similar experience to the Virginia reviewer who also gave a 1-star review. The owner replied to that review saying she was just a "sour grape", but her experience mirrored our own. The following is a list of our grievances. 1) We received a verbal agreement that we could have dinner guests, a rehearsal dinner for a wedding -- the owner even recommended local caterers. The neighbors approached us during our party, and with anger and irritation, told us that our party had to disperse. We were lead to believe that the contract we signed was for the number of overnight guests, and we did not exceed that. But during the dinner we of course exceeded that number -- but the owner initially said that was fine! Later though, he refused to return our deposit because of this. I consider his behavior underhanded. When we talked with the neighbors, they said he has done this many times. I can understand their frustration. 2) The house was not clean, and in a state of minor disrepair. We were able to document visible mold in the shower, holes in the towels, no matching sheets, some doors could not open all the way, the refrigerator leaked water all over the floor twice. 3) You will not be alone in this house. There is a whole portion of the house locked off, where someone lives. 4) We did not receive our deposit back, though we were clean and followed the rules as they were discussed. My advice is do not rent this place, especially if you plan on holding an event. Yet, if you still feel that you want to, be sure to get everything in writing -- that's were we went wrong. You are not dealing with an honest person.

Owner response: Unfortunately this is another case of the Rental Agreement in Breech, and of course disgruntled renters. Please be advised that when the rules are not followed, we will be there to make sure they are, to protect our property, and penalties will be enforced. We had found these renters to have 20+ people on the property and at least 15 cars, when it clearly states in the contract which every renter signs, that the max persons is 14. Again this limit is strictly enforced due to the fact we are on a septic system, and not city sewer. We do Advertise that we have a nice place for weddings and events, but there are a different set of guidelines and rental agreements that are met and are in place for such events. We do have a small staff that lives on site to watch over the property and take care of the animals, they are completely segregated from the main house w/ their own entrances. You will rarely see them, unless you need them, which many of our guests have found to a very helpful attribute to their stay. We have just spent close to 2k making improvements to property buying new linens, towels, and other things to improve the house, as we do every year around this time. As you can see by our 13 vrbo reviews, if you are a family orientated group who doesnt have a problem following simple rules, you and your group will have a fantastic time at HW. The Property is truly a beautiful place, the only bad reviews we get are from people who have intended to use our property in ways not concurrent to the rental agreement which they had both signed.

My husband and I took our family which included 2 children, spouses, and 7 grand children to Harbourwood for a week to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. During that week each grandchild came to me at one time or another to tell me how great the place was for a vacation(they loved the pond and hot tub) . Their ages are 19 through 6. Each one of my children and their spouses told me it was so relaxing they did not want to leave. The house was big enough for all 13 of us to watch T.V., read, play cards, listen to some great music, work on computers, yes the WIFI worked great, or relax in the hot tub. The kids, however, spent little time inside as our weather was beautiful and the pond was full of adventure and fun. One family spent a day at King's Island which was not far, but the rest of the time was spent at Harbourwood or short hops into town for more food! My favorite room was the kitchen as it was so easy to use and had everything needed to prepare and serve meals. We all loved Fred who lives in the basement of the house. He was there for all our questions and needs. Thanks Fred! All I can say to anyone wanting to enjoy your family for a relaxing fun week, Harbourwood is the place. A few things could be replaced as time and people tend to wear things out, but for the most part it was very nice.

This was an ideal setting for a weekend family reunion, which included 8 adults and 4 kids, ages 4 and under. When Kim showed us around, she also brought out the toys that made a lot of faces light up. We were so grateful for those toys! The deck is amazing, and thanks to non-stop gorgeous weather for 2-1/2 days, we spent most of our time outdoors, either on the deck or visiting a local playground. We appreciated the way all of us were able to relax at Harbourwood. Some of us drove to Goshen, others flew to meet for the reunion, so having a place that was so welcoming for tired travelers made a big difference to us. We appreciated the flyer about Gramma's pizza; we enjoyed that for 2 nights, and a nearby Kroger's was handy for fresh fruits and veggies, etc. We loved the LPs, too! And having the music piped outdoors was very cool. If we're in the Cincinnati area again, we'll keep Harbourwood in mind for another reunion.

Owner response: I am so sorry about the toilet paper and believe me I will make phone calls about the dishes--I know that Kim is swamped with back to back bookings and she probably got overwhelmed but that should not happen! As far as the separate house and voices that surprises me. There is a separate entrance and I have never heard anything from being in the main house but I will mention it to the staff who stay there, thank you.

We had 7 women stay for a 3 night getaway during the flying pig marathon. The accommodations were perfect in size for us, with plenty of bathrooms for all of us. I was a bit disappointed in the cleanliness of the kitchen dishes and silverware . We had to make sure we washed everything prior to use. Upon arrival Kim let us know that she would return very shortly with toilet paper, however , she never returned that day. I called her that night as some other lights were not working with no response that evening. The next morning her husband came to fix the lights that were not working. We told him she said she was going to bring toilet paper but she didn't (we of course had bought some by now) and he said she was going to return with some that day. The next day she finally returned with toilet paper...the 3rd day of our stay. We used the grill but had to thoroughly clean it before using. Apparently this is not cleaned by the manager either when the last person had left. There were also mice spotted in the house, maybe due to the lack of cleanliness. What the property owner is paying these managers is too much. They were not as responsive as expected and should really be preparing the place better for the next guests. We did love the deck, hot tub and the layout of the kitchen. The property is beautiful. Robert was very responsive to my inquiries, I just was disappointed by the property managers themselves. The only other disappointment that may have affected us renting the place was the fact that there is a family member living in the house with a separate entrance. We could hear voices. Overall it didn't bother us, but I really think this should be disclosed in the website...vrbo.

We rented this house for a gathering of friends from college. The description online says the house sleeps up to 14. False. The house sleeps 11 and when we pointed this out upon the inspection we were told "um well we have some air mattresses." Perhaps there could have been more sleeping space if not for the fact that there were family members living in the house during our stay. We were never told of this either during the initial inquiry into the property or during communications and the deposit submission. It was not until we arrived were we told we'd be sharing the house with family members. There were not 6 bedrooms and 5 baths available and, again, we were not told we were not receiving the full accommodations until the day of arrival. Be careful if you have other friends or family come visit during your stay. They apparently have rules regarding the number of people that they decide should be IN the house at any given time, though that number is not disclosed either on this website or in person or in the actual signed contract. The house did have 2 working kitchens and enough supplies for cooking meals. This house would be fine if you had a small family but if you're looking for a house for a group gathering then you should think twice about this house.

Owner response: This is a case of sour grapes from an individual that is upset because her deposit was held. She read in the listing and was reminded by myself and then again when she checked in about the 14 person limit. Somehow she took the authority to break that rule and have closer to 20 people there (confirmed by grounds keeper) and then insist that she did not! As far as the accommodations we do indeed have 6 bedrooms and 5 baths--it's all right there. The kitchen is over 350 square feet and has 2 ovens and every new appliance known to man with granite counter tops and stainless fixtures. All the accusations were untrue and I believe this is just an angry person who got caught and doesn't appreciate rules that are there for a reason.

I recently stayed for the weekend at Harbourwood with my wife and with several other close friends. Everyone fell in love with this property. Our group was large, but we all had a bed to sleep in and there was more than enough space to move around. We all felt such happiness at Harbourwood. It was great to spend time reconnecting with friends in so many different ways; relaxing in the living room, joking by the bonfire, taking walks on the trails, visiting the horses and goats, catching and releasing fish, soaking in the hot tub, playing horseshoes, etc. Some of our best moments were spent in the large and well equipped kitchen. We ate like kings and queens! It makes me extremely thankful that we didn’t choose to stay at a typical hotel. What I liked most about Harbourwood was the relaxing atmosphere. The owner's talent as a set designer surely is the reason for the tasteful decor and positive energy felt throughout the home. The caretaker of the property also can be credited for the wonderful vibe we felt. She was so pleasant and accommodating. We instantly noticed the pride she takes in maintaining the property. We really hope we can come back soon!

I was the 1st to arrive of our party of six women, and was warmly greeted by Kim who showed me the "ropes" of this unique property. As others in our party arrived we all made the same comment..." I feel so at home here". Antiques are all throughout the house but nothing is so precious that you can't use it for what it is intented for, i.e. wardrobes; dressers; lamps etc. The kitchen is FULLY equipped and everything worked great. We hiked in the woods on well maintained trails and spotted deer; heron; hawks and at night the sky was overflowing with stars! We would rent this house again and fully intend to do so in the future. Thanks Robert for providing such an amazing space and also to Kim for doing such a nice job maintaining it. You can tell that the house was made with love.

This is like a little bit of heaven. I was there for a family reunion. this hidden oasis is absolutely beautiful and relaxing. The pictures of the property are beautiful but you can't even imagine how much better the house and grounds are until you see them in person. The gardens are very well maintain along with the home. I would recommend this to any family. You have plenty to entertain your family on the property and have quiet but quality time.

I reserved this residence for a family reunion. It is an amazing property just as described. The owner Robert, and caretaker Kim were both very helpful in getting back to me and answering my questions. The house was very spacious and roomy for 14 of us. The setting is unbelievable with many beautiful trees and a huge pond. The house is rustic, but remodeled and very comfy and clean. We spent many hours outside, fishing, eating, and just visiting on the enormous, lovely deck. There are many walking trails, and of course we enjoyed the horses and goats. This property is off the beaten track, which is what we wanted. I would definitely stay at this property again. This is my 3rd VRBO rental, and I was very pleased

A beautiful relaxing and enjoyable place for our Reunion. So happy our daughter Karen from Idaho found Harboiurwood on the internet. Enjoyed seeing the goats on the roof of the little shed, the children feeding the horses grass from their little. hands and catching many fish and releasing them. Kim, your caretaker was so kind and helpful and answered all our questions.Loved her precious little daughter. God bless your dear sister. Everything listed about the property was accurate.

Wonderful, relaxing atmosphere. Needs some TLC and we were unable to connect to the internet. The furnishings and antiques in the home are awesome. Caretakers very friendly and helpful. My granddaughters had their first experience at fresh water fishing and finding their own worms. What a memorable experience. It is an awesome getaway. Wish I lived closer so I could get away more often for some R&R.

This is such an outstanding way to spend a weekend with family or friends, such as a reunion, or just getting away from the city life. A perfect setting for a quite peaceful time with love ones. The house is so rustic and kept very nice. The grounds are beautiful with plants that enhance the surroundings of a country setting. With goats and horses to enjoy. Fishing is great for the young and old. Enjoyed my stay so much.
