Swimming in beautiful Lake Otsego, boating, opera, museums, golfing, Baseball Hall of Fame, and the Farmers Museum are some of the many amenities offered to visitors. No wonder we look forward to each new year spent in Cooperstown!
Our home is located on the beautiful east shore of the lake, enjoying classic sunsets at night. It has two bedrooms (one double, and one with twin beds), a pine paneled living room with fireplace/kitchen, and a covered rocking chair porch to enjoy the view. There is heat, which is great for cool weather. If you’re bringing a boat, a boat slip would be available to you. Our cottages are adjacent to Glimmerglass State Park, another “must see” spot. Many campers come each year, enjoying the beauty of the lake and Cooperstown.
The town itself is unique with a small town atmosphere, corner bakery (Schneider’s) with fine goodies, the Baseball Hall of Fame, many baseball stores, great eating places, a post office, the Country Store, and churches of your choice. The relaxed atmosphere of the village will please you.
Another spot of great interest is the Otesaga Hotel, one of the finest hotels of its kind—pleasant décor, verandas, a marvelous dining room, leaving not much to be desired. Another important spot is the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, which is affiliated with Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York—no need to travel many miles in case of an emergency.
Shopping in all of the many antique shops fill numerous pleasant hours of days looking for something to do; each shop displaying many articles of the past. Auction sales are another fun thing to do. Dining out is another fine pleasure—pizza, snack places, sumptuous lunch or dinner on the beautiful patio overlooking the lake will fill many happy moments and satisfy your appetite.
Glimmerglass Opera is a specialty of its own—performances throughout the summer—matinees and evenings of pleasure. Three or four shows throughout the summer will please you. Lunch and evening parties too are available—a real find!
Boating at Sam Smith’s Boat Yard, together with shopping, lunch, and dinner offered outside on the lake, make for a pleasant stop.. There is also entertainment at Glimmerglass State Park together with bathing, snack bar, and grills for your use.
Luncheon overlooking the lake at the Fenimore Cooper House is a must. Together with the Farmers Museum across the road affords an experience you will not find elsewhere.
New York has found a home for its carousel, enabling you to enjoy fun horse rides and oldtime music. You’re able to spend an entire day at the Museum relaxing and sight-seeing in the past.
Doubleday Field is most enjoyable to visit. Games going on daily together with some evening specialty concerts. Just the crowd in town is fun to observe—people from all parts of the country..
At Hyde Bay (which is about five miles from Cooperstown), there is plenty of time to relax—sunning/swimming, boating, shuffleboard, and ping-pong. You will definitely need this special time to function especially for the night bonfires on the lake—with smores after picnicking in our delightful spot overlooking the lake. It is all there for you to enjoy together with the pleasant people you’ll meet at our Hyde Bay—very relaxing!

Owner Description
Year Purchased: 1982
Hello, I'm Dot sitting in my favorite spot! Quite by accident some forty years ago, my husband, George, and I together with our six children discovered our summer “home away from home” at Rathbun’s (now Hyde Bay Colony). We and our children have spent summers here ever since.
Why the Owner Chose Cooperstown
We own two of the fifteen homes located here on the beautiful east shore of the lake If you’re bringing a boat, a boat slip would be available to you. Our cottages are adjacent to Glimmerglass State Park, another “must see” spot. Many campers come each year, enjoying the beauty of the lake and Cooperstown.

Potential renters should be aware that the photos in the advertisement do NOT accurately portray the view from the cottage. We spent the week staring out the cottage window at the back of the two lakeside cottages that stood between us and the lake...despite being told by the owner that the cottage was "lakeside." To make matters worse, the bathroom was ant-infested and the entire place reeked of mothballs.
Owner response:FUTURE RENTERS! Having rented my lake cottage for over twenty-five years without complaints, I am quite taken back to receive one. Hyde Bay Colony is a group of 15 cottages (individually owned) set in a beautiful lakeview setting next to Glimmerglass State Park and is open 4/15 to 10/15 yearly. I am a Chamber of Commerce member owning two cottages, living in one/renting the other for the summer. The pictures show a combination of the rental cottage/the shoreline, showing the swim dock and boat dock. The cottages are maintained well, and I do have Putnam Exterminating Company service them monthly. A slight odor of moth flake may occur after the winter period of closing the cottages/storing blankets. Finally is located approximately 150 feet from the shore with a lovely lakeview. Our renters always look forward to returning to Hyde Bay through the years! Dot Kotalic, Owner
