Fantastic getaway location from the everyday busy city life. Home was very spacious and clean. Beach was very well kept and the water was perfect! Our daughters enjoyed jumping off the "rock"!! Just a great place to spend some quality family time.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, families with young children.

Great house! Beautiful view! Nice owners! Was very disappointed that we could not swim from the house. Water is only 8" deep for 1/2 mile out. Had to drive to find a swimming beach. Wish we would have known.Recommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing.

House is right on the beach which was very nice. Had to be careful going on the deck due to two bee hives under it though. The listing is very accurate and the appearance of the house is as shown. Property is well-maintained and would recommend this house to all that would like to get away for a relaxing vacation. There really isn't much in Au Gres but Tawas is only 20 minutes away and there is lots to do there.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My husband, two children and I spent one week at this lovely home. The home was clean and well appointed (especially the kitchen... and the deck's grill was a big plus!) The size of the rooms are more "cottage" like than "house" like, but it comfortably fit our family of four. The beach is sandy and the water is so pleasant. We enjoyed searching for the "Big Kahuna" rock (a destination revealed to us by the neighbors), wading in the clear and spectacular water, driving to Huron National Forest and stopping at the overlooks, swimming under the "singing bridge" where the river meets the lake (very clear, cool water here), swimming in the nearby Au Sable river and skipping river rocks, and evening fireworks and firepit/smores right on the beach. The deck is nicely appointed with comfy chaise lounge chairs and chair seating. There is a good deal to do in the area, we were sorry to miss the Charity Island Ferry, but I understand from the locals that it's a "must see." The only reason that I gave this home 4 instead of 5 stars is because there is no air conditioning. The listing does not specifcy A/C and I mistakenly took this amenity for granted. I'm sure on most weeks this is fine, but we were there during a very hot week and we ended up purchasing fans for the rooms (there is only one ceiling fan in the living room). One box A/C unit in the upstairs bedroom would have made a world of difference. We left our vacation a day early due to the discomfort of the heat. The home has a digi-temp display in the kitchen, and at it's peak it was 95 degrees inside... the lake front breeze just couldn't keep up. The area is beautiful though, and I'd recommend this trip to my friends.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Our "Trip Girls" take short getaways to have our 95 year young friend "spring" the retirement center for a few days -- the cottage was perfect; very clean and neat; the owners very accommodating, since three of us travelled from Atlanta with no linens! We had great recommendations for restaurants and sights to see (cute shops in East Tawas, the River Road, driving along side the lake and spotting spectacular trees with shimmering leaves). It was delightful to walk on the beach, seeing turkey tracks alongside deer tracks, watching the heron stalk his breakfast in the marsh; seeing the beautiful sunrise over Lake Huron. The cottage is perfect for a girls' get away, or a family stay with children -- all conveniences nearby --folks are so friendly and helpful -- we look forward to another stay very soon!!Recommended for: Age 55+, people with disabilities, sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children.

We had a great time. The beach is beautiful-perfect if you have kids! They can walk out in the water for a quite a ways before it gets too deep. Fishing was good at night. We had a boat for a couple of days and that made it nice, If you don't-bring some water toys to go out and float on! There is a firepit and a great Weber grill on the front deck. The house is REALLY nice-clean and a kitchen stocked with everything you need to cook! A great place to go and relax! It was a great week-we will definitely consider coming back!Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, families with young children.

My friends and I stayed here in early August of 2010 and I must say was extremely impressed. My family and I have been staying at lake front cottages for years and not one had a beach like this one. 100', at least, of sandy beach from the door step to the water and as far as the eyes could seen down the cost. There are also good golf courses in the area. I would recomend this to smaller families, couples, & friend's getaways. We had a great time.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, girls getaway, families with young children.

My husband and I enjoyed this cottage with our 4 kids aged 13,12, 9, and 2. It was very clean and nicely decorated and yet comfortable enough to feel at home. So well stocked that they anticipated my needs better than I did. Great sandcastle sand and very friendly neighbors. Water was warm and inviting. A very relaxing vacation spot. The highlight of our stay was viewing a bald eagle just outside the back door.Recommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Our family of five stayed at this Beach House in August of 2009. Our getaway was spectacular and very relaxing. The house is impeccably clean and well appointed with all that we needed for cooking, and had ample room and a nice layout. The views of Lake Huron are absolutely awe-inspiring. The beach is huge and has beautiful sand up to the shore edge. We enjoyed many hours of sun-bathing, swimming, and bonfires at night. The local area has a lot of activities to choose from. We golfed nearby, took a canoe trip, and took a boat ride to Charity Island. The owners were very accomodating and even provided us with a stocked wood pile for the bonfires. We have older children but thought this would be a perfect spot for families with young children because of the beach and the calm water. Also the water remains very shallow for a long way out...nice for swimming. We will definately make the trip from Colorado again to this paradise and would highly reccommend it to others.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Dear Sherrie, Thanks so much for the great review of our Beach House!! We were very happy to hear you and your family enjoyed your vacation at our cottage in Northern Michigan and hope you can stay with us again in the future. Best regards, Craig

We stayed in the beach house with another couple August 20-23. It was extremely clean and well kept. The kitchen was well stocked with pots/pans, utensils, glasses, anything you would need. The grill is nice and new. I have a 6 month old and could let her crawl around without worrying that she was going to be picking up anything. Our friends have a 2yr old and there wasn't much for her to get into either. She had a great time playing in the sand. The beach is beautiful with nice sand. We had a great time here even though the weather was a little cold. We would definitely rent this place again next year. The owners do a great job of making this an enjoyable vacation rental.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2
