Now booking for Summer of 2012.
This is a charming and comfortable cabin at Bass Lake that is somewhat secluded on a small hill overlooking the lake. There is one master bedroom and full bath with a California King bed and a TV. The second bedroom is small, with a bunk bed that is twin-sized on top and full-sized on the bottom. This bedroom has a small bathroom with a shower. The living room has a queen-sized sofa bed and a large TV with DVD/VCR player. The modern kitchen has a nook that sits 4-6. There is an adjacent library/den area with a larger table that can be used for dining, game playing, puzzles, crafts, working at your laptop, etc. There is a hot tub on the deck that overlooks the lake. The hot tub is especially wonderful at night when all is quiet and the stars are bright. To the side of the house is an enclosed yard area with a concrete patio and a basketball hoop. It is a 5-minute walk to the lake. The Falls beach area is less than a mile down the road. The Pines Village is 2 miles down the road. There you'll find The Pines grocery store, a gas station, a few restaurants and shops to browse in. There are boat and other rentals available on both sides of the lake as well as a couple of amazing burger, sandwich and ice-cream places (Millers Landing and The Forks).
***Please note that the lake level is extremely low during the winter and spring, especially in 2011/2012, because PG&E is doing retrofitting on the dam. Because our cabin sits at the shallow end of the lake, there will essentially be no lake view from the cabin until around Memorial Day weekend. We apologize, but this is an inconvenience that all lake visitors have had to deal with for the past 3 years.
New: Tempur-Pedic mattress toppers in both bedrooms! Sleep like a dream!
The town of Oakhurst is just 8 miles away and has a wide variety of restaurants, movie theaters, grocery stores, bowling, etc. There is also good golf, hiking and fishing nearby. And of course, Yosemite is just up the road! It's a 20 minute drive to the southern entrance to Yosemite (and the Mariposa Grove) and then another 40 minutes down into Yosemite Valley. Day trips into Yosemite are very easy to do....then come back to soak in the hot tub at night!
This cabin is a perfect retreat for couples who want a quiet get-away. Families love it too!
Autumn and winter in Bass Lake and Yosemite are beautiful, peaceful and cozy. The cabin is at 3800 feet, so there is occasional snow around the cabin, but nothing to count on. There are snow play areas along the road on the way to Yosemite, and Badger Pass inside Yosemite has skiing and snow play for the whole family. Snowshoeing and crosscountry skiing can be done at the Mariposa Grove, just inside Yosemite's entrance. Yosemite's various lodges have special holiday meals that can be once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
The town of Oakhurst is celebrating its 100th birthday in 2012 and will be having special events almost every weekend. Check out all the fun activities in the mountain area:

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2002
We are a couple in our mid-50's from the San Francisco Bay Area. Bass Lake is a 3-hour drive from our home. We bought our cabin 8 years ago while taking an anniversary trip to a Bed and Breakfast in the area. We stopped by a realtor's office for a casual chat, found out that this little home had just become available for sale and hadn't yet been listed, went over to take a look, and made an offer to buy it! Thus, we returned from our anniversary weekend as first-time cabin owners.
Why the Owner Chose Bass Lake
We love the peace and beauty of the mountain area. Although we have a boat, we find that we prefer the area when it's less crowded and we can hike and relax. My husband is a photographer, a la Ansel Adams, so there are limitless possibilities for his passion.
The Unique Benefits of this House
The hot tub under the starry sky soothes many harried souls. The lake is beautiful from all directions, whether you're on it or biking or walking around it. Burgers and sandwiches at Millers Landing must not be missed. A romantic dinner at Duceys is worth every penny. Cuddling in the cabin living room by the fire with a good DVD and a good local wine or hot cocoa is enjoyable, no matter what the weather is doing outside.
I could go on and on...

Wonderful Thanksgiving vacation

Four of us stayed in this cabin during the Thanksgiving vacation and had a wonderful time. The cabin was furnished with just about any and everything we could want or need. We prepared a full Thanksgiving meal without lacking for anything. The setting is just beautiful, even with the lake drained for repairs to the dam. Tall, fragrant pine trees all around and spectacular views of the mountains from the deck hot tub. Also, despite other houses in the area, this place feels very private. The day trip to Yosemite Valley is a lengthy drive over twisty roads but well worth the effort.. The town of Oakhurst is quaint. We had a very good dinner at Crab Cakes Restaurant (which serves an interesting combination of seafood and bakery goodies). The cabin owners are very nice people and we didn't have any problems. I would recommend it.

Beautiful spot.Very cozy comfortable for a couple. It's perfect for a 2nd honeymoon (25th anniversary) - nicely decorated, quiet, secluded location, beautiful views, inviting hot tub. It was exactly what we were looking for. A bit far from Yosemite, (1 hour, 20 mins) but most places are. Also highly recommend El Cid's for mexican food just North of Oakhurst.
Owner response:We're glad that it was perfect for you. Honeymooners and Second Honeymooners really enjoy our cozy cabin. Just to clarify: the drive to the entrance to Yosemite is 20 minutes. Once inside the park gates, depending upon road conditions and traffic, it can take from 40-60 minutes to drive down into Yosemite Valley.

My wife and I did a trip to Yosemite as part of of honeymoon through CA and were intent on staying some where near the park but not inside. This property was perfect! The cabin is very close to the south entrance of the park and about an hour's drive from the Valley - which provided a beautifully scenic drive through Yosemite. The cabin felt remote and yet it was a short drive to the small town nearby for everything we needed (groceries, a margarita after a long day of hiking, and a last minute effort to find a pack for the park). The view of the lake from the back deck is the best way to spend a sunset - especially from the hot tub. My wife and I had a hard time convincing ourselves to come inside. With the view, the hot tub, and a grill and table to make dinner, we had everything we needed to enjoy the quiet nights. The cabin itself is in great shape: clean and spacious; the WiFi worked well; we never used the television - but there was a movie library; plenty of books and games for entertainment. We really enjoyed making breakfast in the stocked kitchen and eating in the wonderful little nook. There is also a large washer and dryer which was useful after several days of exploring Yosemite. The owners were responsive and we got our deposit back immediately. The stay was a welcome retreat and we'd highly recommend it.

First off, thanks so much to Wendy for all the helpful suggestions and emails. We found everything we needed inside the cabin and plenty of info on the local area. This cabin was really a "home away from home". Clean property. Found plenty of equipment in the kitchen. Loved using the gas BBQ for a few of our meals as well. If you stay here, note that the stove heats up quickly so watch your food carefully! The food to "share" was great to have handy - we used a little and left a quite a few condiments of ours for the next guests. Also liked the eating area in the kitchen. Beds were very comfy and there was tons of storage. Wish there were pictures of the baths here, they were really nice! Full sized washer/dryer was great. Plenty of water pressure and hot water too. The living room furniture was very inviting. The work table was perfect for our laptops and there were books, games, and movies to keep kids entertained. The broadband internet connection was really good and the cable TV worked. We didn't connect to the WIFI in order to give any feedback. (Absolutely no T-mobile service at Bass Lake or Yosemite, but it did work in Oakhurst.) Hot tub was heavenly. We used the portable cooler for the afternoon heat and it worked well. I have praise for the location as well. Being at the north end of the lake made it easy to get to the main road to go to either to town or into Yosemite. It is a full hour drive to the Valley up a windy mountain road, but you really can't get much closer unless you stay inside the park for many more $$$. Mariposa Grove and Wowona are close and worth visiting and hiking around. We also day tripped to Sequoia/Kings Canyon - 2.5 hours drive each way. The driveway was steep gravel with a hairpin turn, but we got up it no problem with a full sized car. Might be a little tricky when there is snow though. There was plenty of parking by the front door. Tip: Follow owner's directions to the house. Our GPS sent us to the wrong side of the lake! Overall we had a great time. Great $ value for the area as well. Thanks again for making our first VRBO rental a success - we will definitely use the service again. Hoping we can return to Yosemite sometime. It is truly a hiker's paradise and a week just isn't long enough. It would be cool to see the waterfalls at their best in May, though they were surprisingly good this year for September. Also, we had a good Lake view off the deck even though the water level was pretty low.
Owner response:Thanks for such a thoughtful and thorough review! You've done a lot to provide helpful tips for future renters. We'd love to have you for a return visit.

This was a good place to stay, we were very pleased with the property. The location was good - away from Yosemite but not too far to travel in especially to Sequoia Grove. Wouldn't want to make the trip everyday but the great thing about Bass Lake was the little beaches and the chance to hire kayaks and paddle boards at Millers Landing so we were just as happy around the lake. Not too far to Oakhurst either to get groceries. Owners description was accurate, and clean and tidy, but not so fancy you would worry about letting the children loose inside. The kitchen was well equipped and the stove ect pretty straight forward to use. We used the hot tub a couple of times, which was great, and the basketball hoop (though we were a little worried about losing the ball over the fence and down the hill!). Found the croquet set as well. I was worried about the description of the drive before arriving but this wasn't a problem and there was plenty of room to park the car outside the cabin. The cabin was very hot when we were there - stupidly I didn't spot the A/C unit until we were due to leave. I was surprised we were expected to wash the sheets and towels, I shouldn't have been as this was clearly set out by the owners, but this took no time in reality as the large washer and dryer were so efficient.
Owner response:We're so glad that you enjoyed your stay at our vacation home and that you and your children availed yourselves of some of the extra features like basketball, croquet, etc. Both Bass Lake and Yosemite have a lot to offer visitors to the area. We just ask that you get the sheets and towels started in the wash before you leave so that the cleaner will have time to finish them up before the next guests arrive. This is a common practice among cabin owners because there is a short turn-around time. Thank you again for being great guests! We love having visitors from abroad!

My family and I all loved staying here. It was a fantastic base to come back to every day after our adventures. The hot tub was a huge hit, even our teenage son approved........... It had everything you needed and the space both outside and in was great. The location excellent the proximity to Yosemite and Oakhurst was really good. Will definitely recommend to friends and if we ever travel that way again would love to stay. Val, Keith and Harry Poynton Cheshire UK

We had a great time in your home at Bass Lake, a real home from home experience with everything we could have needed. Kids loved the basketball hoop and spent hours playing in the garden. We also took a boat on lake for a day and did some tubing. We will certainly consider coming back for longer (and outside of a national holiday period) next time we visit California.

My husband and I stayed 3 days and really enjoyed the place. The pictures show just how it looks. The master bed was very comfortable, the kitchen well stocked (even things like foil, coffee, spices, sugar, salt, pepper) and the hot tub nice and warm. But, we do have two complaints. First, the bed appeared to be made, but no sheets were on it. They were under some extra blankets sitting on top of the bed. So, we were tired and climbing into bed and discovered we had to make it. That has never happened to us before. Then when leaving you have to wash, dry and fold the sheets. Then wash and dry the towels you used (instructions said you could leave the towels drying in the dryer if you needed to leave). And you do pay a cleaning fee, which I thought meant they cleaned not me. We have stayed at several VRBO places and have never been asked to do the laundry. Not sure we will go back to this place because of those things, but if that doesn't bother you then go for it.
Owner response:We're so glad that you enjoyed your stay at our cozy cabin and we appreciate the feedback. The reason we leave the sheets folded on the beds is to assure the guests that they are fresh and clean. We do ask guests to start washing the sheets and towels on the day of their departure because there is a small window of time between checkout (at 11 am) and check-in (at 3 pm) and we have been very very busy this season. We're sorry that you were inconvenienced.
