We stayed at Moloka'I for a girls getwaway. Four women escaping the stress of corporate life for a few days and it was the perfect retreat. The house is clearly a place that holds family memories and was the perfect spot for us to explore the island and get some long needed R&R. My favorite memory was waking up each morning and opening up the movable windows in the large family room that extend the room onto the large lania. The sound of the birds, the mountain view in the still of the morning was a wonderful way to start each day...drinking local coffee and eating fresh papaya ...ah relaxation. Molokai is not Oahu or Maui. If you are looking for night life this is not the place. if you are interested in a quiet retreat with family and friends, reading books, playing games ....exploring Molokai and it's relaxed island lifestyle. I would stay here again and hope to return to Molokai again.

Kauluwai Mauka was a perfect house for the 6 of us. It was very spacious, comfortable and quiet. The evenings were cool and even got to see deer in the backyard. The owner was easy to contact and he even called to see if everything was okay while we were there. The entire experience was great and will look forward to coming back again.

Very comfortable home. The owner was very easy to communicate with and responsive to any questions/concerns we had. The home is roomy and has everything you may need including snorkeling gear. The home decor is 70's and maybe dated but we loved it! We felt the location was great, somewhat in the middle of the island.

We spent nine days in heaven at Kauluwai Mauka. I'll admit that I almost hate to write a review because I'd like to keep this place a personal secret. Our son & daughter-in-law from NC spent 5 days with us, followed by 4 days with friends from Oregon. I could sit on the beautiful lanai, feeling the breeze and staring at the view, for hours ( & did)! The house is the perfect getaway from the world, and Molokai is like your private island. During the week we were usually the only people on the beaches we visited. We traveled the whole island and watched the most incredible sunsets almost every night. The house has literally anything and everything you could want. And it really feels like the family home and retreat that the histories in the house tell you it is. Great bedrooms, and the living area and lanai are huge and open. While it "only" has the 2 bedrooms, the living area and lanai are designed to hold and sleep a CROWD. Great from a big family with older kids. Pack VERY light... you need very little that's not provided. We will use carryons only next trip. Very few stores on the island but they have what you need. I do plan to ship over a couple of short beach chairs to use & leave at the house the next time we rent it, but I cannot think of a single other thing we missed and couldn't find in the house or on the island. I have never found a more relaxing place. We are already planning our next trip!! Aloha from Alabama
Owner response:We're so glad you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again next year!

Dear Derby family – What a wonderful vacation we had at Kauluwai Mauka! This is just one of many wonderful family times we have enjoyed here in your beautiful home, and we plan to be return guests over and over again! . We find Molokai lives up to its name; ‘The Friendly Isle’ and we treasure our time here.We love the way the house is set up! We have everything that we need, and could ever want. We love your beautiful Heath Dinnerware! We have enjoyed the wonderful setting, the cool mountain weather is a blessing, and the views stretch our eyes out across the ocean. The leisurely pace of Molokai is a welcome respite from our hectic San Francisco urban life. Whether we are sitting out on the lanai with a good book, or putting together a puzzle – we quickly fall into the rhythms of this special place.Even with the leisurely pace of your beautiful island, we find lots to do! It is great to have the golf course close by, and the course is unique, with spectacular views. We always look forward to our late night ritual of lining up at the door of the legendary Kanemitsu Bakery in charming Kaunakakai and waiting for the best bread ever made! Aloha Friday’s at the Hotel Molokai, is a special event for us – listening to the Auntie’s play their ukulele’s and sing takes us to a place of island history and fills us with Aloha Spirit! Good drinks over there too! Milton even did the hula this time! Our days here are long and relaxing. Slow Down - It’s Molokai! Nearly every day we swim and snorkel at our ‘secret beach’’. I can’t reveal the location here, since we always want it to be our own special place! Perhaps others will find it, but we are going to keep it under our sun hats! Thanks again for sharing your family home with us. We hope that it will always be here – offering us a chance to recharge our batteries and fall in love, over again with Molokai! See you next time!Mahalo and warm aloha, Jayne Wenger and Milton DiazTiburon, California
