This mountain home features an open floor plan allowing for ocean and mountain views from almost every vantage. A large open beam ceiling and tasteful splashes of color grace the elegantly designed Great Room to create a true sense of Hawaiian comfort.
The Great Room includes the living room, dining area, library, and kitchen. It is connected to a large lanai; all face the Pacific Ocean and a view of the Island of Lanai through the large trees.
Fully retractable doors achieve a perfect balance of indoor/outdoor ambience. Ample seating in the living area near the fireplace creates a luxurious relaxing spot for friends and family to gather.
The well-equipped kitchen features all major and small appliances.
In part of the Great Room, there is a library with television, stereo and DVD player. A cupboard full of games and picture puzzles can provide hours of fun and relaxation. If you must work while on vacation, you can establish an Internet connection via telephone.
A second outdoor lanai provides a special area for cocktails while the barbecue is heating up.
The kid-friendly house offers sleeping arrangements for 4 adults and 3 children comfortably but additional guests can be accommodated in the Great Room with couches and futons for up to 10 guests.
There are two bedrooms and two baths. A master suite on the north side of the home provides complete privacy, a California king size bed and en-suite bath. The master suite also features a private garden with a bubbling fishpond. The master bath offers a large hot tub and spacious shower.
The guest bedroom on the south side of the home features twin beds, a deck with ocean views, and large adjoining bath with shower.

In 1966 the Derby family built an architect-designed home for themselves on land that had been in the Cooke family since 1909.
Nauceous, the family mascot, is a stuffed doll with yarn hair who lives at Kauluwai Mauka year round. He’ll be waiting for you when you get there! When you find him, you can re-position him in plain sight for the next visitors.
