Cabo Velas Estates is located in Matapalo, a hidden gem of the Guanacaste region. The country is a geographic wonderland full of rich tropical forests, black and white sandy beaches, mountains, volcanoes, and nature more abundant than anywhere else on the planet, yet it is just a bit smaller than West Virginia.
Although it only spans 19,700 square miles, Costa Rica holds 6% of the world's biodiversity. There are 10,000 varieties of plants - 1,200 of them orchids. There are 1,240 species of butterflies and 845 species of birds. Among the animal life, 205 classifications of mammals inhabit Costa Rica, as do 160 varieties of amphibians, 218 varieties of reptiles and 1,013 varieties of fresh and salt water fish. The diverse natural setting means Costa Rica also offers a huge range of local activities for its visitors and residents from hiking and white-water rafting to fishing and scuba diving to simply lounging around on the beach. It's what makes Costa Rica the "must-see" destination of the Western Hemisphere, if not of the world.

Why the Owner Chose Playa Grande

Cabo Velas (Cape sails) Estates is located in Matapolo which is in the heart of the Guanacaste province of Costa Rica. It is surrounded by some of the world’s most beautiful beaches such as Playa Grande and Playa Conchal. Cabo Velas Estates is located between some of the hottest tourist destination in Central America. Nestled between Tamarindo and Flamingo, only 5 minutes from two of the best beaches in Costa Rica, and only 40 minutes from Liberia International airport, our location provides our clients a short drive to everything our area has to offer.

The Unique Benefits at this Townhome

Your condo/townhouse has its own parking right in front. Designed with a Costa Rican Flair, your condo/townhouse offers ease of living as well as quality construction. • 40 minutes from Liberia International Airport • 5 minutes from Grande beach (world class surfing) • 5 minutes from Conchal beach (voted one of Costa Rica's BEST beaches) • 10 minutes from Tamarindo (great night life & shopping) • 2 minutes from pharmacies, and grocery stores • Minutes from several championship golf courses • Onsite rental management service.

A
Playa Menas

One of the nicest beaches in the entire area. Very few people if any. There are photos of this one our photos section. At night you can see the plankton shining in the water. When you swim at night your body looks like it is glowing flourescent. It is amazing. Also, most of the year we get a lot of leatherback turtles that come up to lay their eggs. these things are 250 pounds each. AMAZING.

B
Playa Conchal

6-7 minutes from the condo on a dirt road. Great beach for fishing, snorkeling, or just relaxing. They have sail boat, snorkeling, jet ski, and tube ride rentals on this beach as well as a lot of local vendors selling everything from jewelry to Cuban Cigars.

C
Playa Pirates

We have a couple pictures of this also on the VRBO listing. Nice little restaurant on the beach. You can go here and relax and have a lunch or a few beer on the beach. Again this is also on the dirt road. Better have 4x4. Its a lotta fun to go to these beaches off the beaten path. Less people, and more quiet relaxation. Read a book, hear the waves. From here you can look out at the Catalinas which has some of the worlds best scuba diving.

D
Matapolo BULL RING

This is where our town has all its fiestas, and bull riding events. Very rustic, and not much regulation. If you really want to, you can get on a bull and ride away. We do not recommend this of course. Pretty cool. The parties include a big dance with local salsa, and modern Raggaeton music. Gets pretty rowdy!!!!

Owner's Map of Playa Grande

I arrived in Costa Rica late 2007 and fell in love with Guanacaste. More than Guanacaste, I fell in love with the culture and people in Matapolo. I was a builder/developer in Florida and was tired of the long hours, high stress, and red tape that I dealt with on a daily basis. It was time for a change. Arriving in Gunancaste, I realized that there was a need for a low priced "affordable" product near the beaches and close to everything. That is how Cabo Velas was born. Now, with the first phase complete, my partners and I are well on our way of completing our Puravida dream. Our company modo is work to live-don't live to work! Come to Matapolo and see why these people live longer and happier than most Americans. Experience Puravida!!!!

Gem in Matapalo

I stayed here with my son July 3-July 10. I stayed in Playa Grande last year and was a little hesitant at staying in a new place. My hesitancy proved unfounded. We loved our stay! The community is within 10 minutes of 4 fabulous beaches. The condo was clean, well designed, and beautifully furnished. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. I did not use the pool at the house where I stayed last year, but I did at this property. The pool grounds, palapa, and hammocks were an added bonus. Coffee under the palapa was a great way to start my day. The location is great. It is close to some small stores, but is only minutes away from Huacas and Brasilito, where you can find great pastry shops, restaurants, and grocery stores. It is very easy to find, as well. We flew into Liberia, and the drive from the airport is 45 min-hour. I highly recommend this property! I have already talk to my family members about returning next year. While the location is not right on the beach, it is in a great location, and the price cannot be beat. Pura Vida!

The pictures on this listing are beautiful, but they cannot compare to the the actual beauty that is waiting for you at the condo! The condos are clean and spacious, the landscaping is breath-taking and the the pool area is THE perfect place to relax, recharge and enjoy. And the location couldn't be better, it is within 10-15 minutes of some of the most pristine beaches I have ever seen! Perfect for swimming, surfing or just reading a book in the sand. I love that is it nearby Tamarindo, so that you can enjoy some activities during the day and evening, but can easily return the serenity of the condo! I have another trip back already planned!!

This is the place to be!

What a wonderful, safe, little community tucked away at the end of the road coming from town! The townhouse was clean and fresh. The pool and hammock area were peaceful and great for relaxing with a book. And last, but not least, Ryan was so incredibly helpful! He showed us around the area, told us the best places to eat, and made sure that our first trip to Costa Rica went smoothly. When we left I told him that he and Cabo Velas made our trip. Nothing like having a home away from home in such a beautiful country. :-) My husband and I will be back!

What a beautiful place to visit and maybe live one day. The condos are nice, new and very clean. I couldn't believe the price for what all they have to offer. I took my son who was turning 15 down to do some zip lining, not knowing how much more was really waiting for us. When we arrived Ryan was an awesome host, he knows his way around like the back of his hand. He recommend places to eat, shop, surf and pretty much whatever help we needed. I felt safe & relaxed in our enviroment. We went horse back riding, zip lining, tubing, rock climbing and all in one day! The volcano was amazing and the ride over was scenic and enjoyable, we stopped off at the German restaurant (a nice 1/2 way point) and had a bite to eat then off to the volcano and hot springs. I will definitely go back. Dawn

Where tropical beauty meets real Costa Rican culture

Guest: Pete (Boston)
Date of Stay: 04/05/10 Review Submitted: 08/05/10

If you are looking to experience real Costa Rican culture, while enjoying modern convenience, this place is for you. Hidden in the small Oceanside town of Matapalo, Cabo Velas Estates' location is central to many great beaches and hot tourist destinations, but provides you an opportunity to live in a real Costa Rican town. The rental units are very nice 2 bed/2 bath, with local hardwood doors and cabinets, and beautiful granite countertops. The community is gated and the pool/cabana area is perfect. The landscaping includes many tropical fruit trees and an organic garden which was interesting since when you are hungry just grab some bananas. The community is more rustic than your typical resort destination, but that is what gives it its charm. Ask the locals for directions to the most beautiful beaches that you have all to yourself. The non-tourist beaches are so amazing. I recommend renting a small SUV as this will give you the flexibility to drive to the more touristy towns if you are interested in a really nice restaurant, or off-road to great beaches. TIP: The locals drink beer with a lot of ice. Sounds really weird coming from the US, but it taste so good down there. Before you know it, you too will fall in love with the Pure Vita lifestyle. I say if you are going to Costa Rica then go and experience the Costa Rican culture and not just another US resort in a foreign country.

We stayed at Cabo Velas for a few nights this past July, and the place was great! The owner was super helpful and it's in a nice littel community. The places are all brand new and very clean -- also nicely furnished. The pool area is also new and clean, and includes a few comfy hammocks for those lazy afternoon naps. The photos are accurate for what you get. The place is a quick drive in to Tamarindo, which is where we ate a couple nights and hung on the beach. Playa Flamingo's not too far either, also beautiful and some good places to eat as well. I'm sure I will be staying there again
