October has some Prime Leaf Peeping. Loon Lake Landing is located 20 miles north of Saranac Lake and 28 miles to LakePlacid/Whiteface Mountain in Franklin County NY . The cabin has three bedrooms and one bath and is located on 2.5 acres. The beautiful waterfront area and private dock provide unobstructed access to Loon Lake . 'The Landing' is one of only a few properties on Loon Lake that has a large beach area. The views at Loon Lake Landing go on for miles. Whiteface Mountain and other 'High Peaks,' are just a peek out the door or window! While we offer many of the modern conveniences to which, we have all become accustomed, we hope you choose to instead take advantage of the many awesome (and FREE) activities right outside the doors of the camp. A 2-person canoe, a paddle boat, a row boat and a tandem kayak for paddling around Loon Lake. There is a dock for swimming and fishing. Go fishing on Loon Lake for Large Mouth bass, Small Mouth and Northern Pike

On site: We've made the following improvements so far and have more planned for the 2011 season. We added Direct TV, Internet Access and a Samsung HDTV, we improved the view immensely (pictures to follow but the good ones will not be until spring) we are making a path from the stone chimney down to the lake, the old chain fence by the lake is gone and I am replacing that with a handmade ADK style twig post and rail white birch fence, we added a peddle boat, a front loading washer/dryer, laminate flooring in the kitchen, newer lp gas stove to replace old cook stove (we will miss the cook stove dearly,) all new quilts in bedrooms with loons and other ADK scenes, ADK table in the front porch made of one large slab of pine, ADK area rugs in front porch, locally made bar stools and other general improvements to the cabin and grounds. Stay tuned for more improvements.....just when you thought Loon Lake Landing couldn't get any better, it did!

Saranac Lake and Lake Placid are close by and make for a great day trip.

John Brown Farm State Historic Site
John Brown was an abolitionist whose attempt to free the slaves cost him his life and the life of others. The park offers group tours, guided tours, hiking, picnicking, re-enactments, scenic views, interpretive signage and alpine skiing.

The Summer months are filling up fast so don't delay, contact us today. Spring and Fall are really amazing so we hope more families can take advantage of these months this year. We actually prefer Spring and Fall up at the camp but maybe that is because the cabin is always fully rented in the summer months. The air is crisp and clean, birds are chirping, animals are scurrying everywhere and there is a special feeling of peacefulness in the spring and fall and we hope you will take advantage of our amazing location, cabin and grounds.

We really enjoyed our stay at Loon Lake Landing. The cabin is so well equiped and lovely it felt like we were staying in a comfortable home, not a vacation rental. The views of Loon Lake and the High Peaks region are beautiful, with Whiteface Mountain as the mountain cascade center piece. The available Kayak had us paddling several days, exploring all of Loon Lake and getting up close to who the lake is named for. Fires in the outdoor stone fireplace, a night sky dense with stars and the milky way in clear view made for spectacular evenings. We didn't feel the need to leave the cabin and the lake but there are a few near by attractions that are worth the drive - Paul Smiths Visitor Interpretive Center has some nice easy hikes which showcase the different environments of the Adirondacks. The Wild Center (Natural History Museum of Adirondacks) in Tupper Lake lived up to the great reviews. Loon Lake Landing is a very special place and we look forward to future stays and experiencing different seasons there. "Nature is not a place to visit, it is home."

Owner response: We appreciate the great reviews. We feel the same way when we stay at the camp, at home and relaxed. We are happy that we can share our "Slice of Heaven" with like minded people. We take pride in the work we have done to make the cabin comfortable and clean. We find nearby gems every time we visit, like the 30 minute hike (400 ft vertical elevation) that starts from our front door. The hike does get a little steep at the top but is suitable for beginners. The view of the lake is great from up there! We look forward to reading more great reviews so don't hesitate, call us today. We look forward to meeting you..... Thanks! Dave and Veronica

My husband and I and our dog had a GREAT week at the cabin! The cabin itself is immaculate and very well maintained. The photos depicted here represent the cabin and grounds very well in reality and was very much what we expected when we arrived; no disappointment! We did not leave the property all week and found plenty to keep us busy; hiking, boating, sun-bathing, grilling, making fires in the chimney, making smores, stargazing, and just relaxing and unplugging from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The fleet of boats was our favorite feature. Hubby and I spent HOURS on the paddleboat tooling around the lake. The lake itself is very clean and suitable for swimming. At night, we watched for shooting stars which were AMAZING! I especially liked the well-stocked library of books that was available on the one rainy day we had; also had fun writing in the guest book :) Again, this property and home-owner come highly recommended by my family. Thanks, Dave & Veronica for sharing your home with us, especially our dog. We appreciate it and will recommend Loon Lake Landing to all of our friends.

Nice property with puzzles, books, DVDs, views and activities to keep you busy. Did not have an opportunity to use the paddle boat due to the weather. Might as well leave your blackberry at home during your vacation since you're far away from any local coverage. Beautiful sun room to look out at the lake or to work a puzzle. Most water systems in this area have a natural high iron content. Didn't bother our taste palettes but the owners were thoughtful enough to have bottled water available for those who may be a little fussier. David was very responsive to a phone call regarding how to get the water pump to kick on. David and Veronica had informed us when we arrived but during all the hustle and bustle of moving luggage...we forgot.

We chose this location to accommodate our older parents and it met all of our expectations. Easy access (1-2 steps at a time) with first floor bedroom and bath and a somewhat level yard. Cabin is in good repair and the upgrades were nice. Plenty of room to spread out, nice view of the lake from the closed in porch, well equipped cabin and clean (did I mention CLEAN!) Boats and equipment were very nice. We saw plenty of wildlife. Every day we saw up to four loons. They were shy, but stayed in the lake as we were boating. Nice dirt road to walk through the woods. We already have made reservations for next year.

Owner response: We are so glad you had a good time in 2010 and that you're coming back in 2011! We appreciate the great review and all the nice comments. We are glad you got to enjoy the loons, they are really facinating bird and it's quite a thrill to see them up close. Loons are very territorial so it is best to not disturb them and I've read that mimicking their calls might make them leave. There is literature about loons in the reading collection. We are doing many upgrades again this year including adding a 55" Samsung HD TV, Direct TV and Wireless internet (computer not provided at this time but maybe something we will add in the future.) We are even more excited about our new and improved view and path from the stone chimney down to the lake. Check our websites periodically for more upgrades and new pictures. Have a Happy Holiday season! We'll see you in 2011. Dave and Veronica

My bride and I have been married for 25 yrs. Our anniversary 8/24 was going to be a full moon this year. The absolute perfect spot, cleaar sky, cool night, NO BUGS, and a full moon. We are so very impressed with the home, the grounds, the lake. A very refreshing respite from the work world. You couldn't ask for a more serene and calm setting. The fox; we saw twice, turkeys everywhere, hummingbirds that empty the feeders everyday! We brought our two Samoyeds, and they had a blast. The fireplace on the hill is awesome! We had a fire on 5 out of 7 nights. Now, I want to ice-fish up there this year. We will be back! To Dave and Veronica for the efforts that they put into making this a truly special vacation, THANK YOU! It was just like being home, the comfort level, the upgrades to the facility, the relaxed atmosphere; PERFECT. Rick & Leslie

Owner response: Hi Rick and Leslie, Thank you for taking the time to write such a great review! We really appreciate the kind words and we're happy you had a nice stay. We may be able to work out a long weekend for ice fishing this winter. I talked with someone who grew up in the area and he only fishes the lake in the winter. There are some big Northern Pike in the lake. The fireplace on the hill just got better! We cleared the many small trees which were semi-blocking the view and cleared a path from the chimney to the lake, we will post some pictures soon. We put a lot of effort into Loon Lake Landing in the short time we have owned it and we are constantly improving the cabin, grounds, amenities and our service as we learn from our guests. We have had two very successful years so far and look forward to many more. There are some very exciting upgrades we are planning on and will post them as soon as we make them, like the new and improved view which went from amazing to something even better than amazing! Thanks again Rick and Leslie for writing such a nice review. We sent you information about your discount for returning next year so let us know which week you would like to reserve. Our calendar will fill in quickly so don't delay. We look forward to seeing you next summer or maybe sooner for some ice fishing. THANKS!!! Dave and Veronica

My wife and I stayed here in September, we have a cockapoo. This is the main reason we choose this place. The photos are a little deceiving. You have to cross a road to get to the water. The grilles were quite dirty, we opted not to use either one. Micky and his friends came out at night to visit us, they drove the dog crazy. The water pressure in the shower was almost inperceivable. On the plus side the cabin did have one of the most comfortable beds we have found in a rental. The gas heater warmed the cabin quickly on the chilly September mornings. I didn't catch one fish or even get one bite in the lake, though it was late in the season. If you are looking for a private get away this might be what you are looking for. But I don't think we will be returning.

Owner response: I am sorry about the issues you had during your stay and would like to address each one. I would like to invite you and your family back at a discounted rate (as many other families have done in our short time owning + renting the cabin.) I am sorry you feel that the photo's are deceiving. I have had guests tell me the place is exactly as they imagined it. To be fair, the road is a very seldom traveled private road which dead ends 2 miles down the street. I actually recommend going to the end of the road because there is an old bridge there. You can go across and it's a great place to walk around. We purchased a new Charcoal grill. We installed a new water pump and the pressure is fantastic. Sorry you didn't catch any fish but you know what they say, that's why it's called "Fishing" and not "Catching." There are some big fish in there and the lake is rarely fished. Again, we are sorry your stay was not the best, we made improvements based on your feedback and we hope you will reconsider and come back for a future vacation. Thanks! Dave and Veronica

My wife and two sons, 11 and 14, had an awesome time at Loon Lake Landing. Dave and Veronica thought of everything in equipping the house for their guests. The cabin itself is very roomy and comfortable. They stocked it with a great variety of DVDs and Videos for those rainy afternoons or quiet evenings. The property has both a fireplace chimney and a beach area firepit, which we used nearly every evening to toast marshmellows and enjoy the incredible night sky. There is a kayak, canoe, paddleboat, and rowboat available for guests to explore Loon Lake. We caught a number of fish, toured the lake, and just hung out and floated on rafts. Hiking and shopping is nearby, but the cabin and property are perfect for relaxing. We would definitely stay there again.

We spent the month of July at Loon Lake Landing. It was peaceful and beautiful. Cabin is well equipped. Multiple water craft available. Kids, Grandkids, and visitors all had great fun with paddle boat, canoe, etc. Evening story-telling, marshmellow roasting, and star-gazing by the outdoor fireplace were a treat. Water in Loon Lake is crystal clear and cool. And the Loon calls are too magnificent to describe. You need to experience this in person - early morning fog on the lake and the call of loons echoing out of the mist. This rests any soul. We left relaxed and refreshed and looking forward to next summers visit.

Owner response: Hey Doctor Joe + Family! We're very happy that you are coming back for another month in 2011.”A Grand Connection” is exactly how we feel when we are there, it’s as if we are one with our surroundings and nothing else matters. Thanks for writing a great review and for the kind words. We’ve already made a bunch of upgrades which will make your stay even more comfortable and there are many more on the way. We just added a Samsung 55" LED HD TV, Direct TV and wireless internet. We just got a new Dyson pet vacuum cleaner, the kind with the ball technology! We are listing the upgrades on our websites as we complete them. Our favorite upgrade so far is that my friend Tim and I spent two full days clearing trees over by the stone chimney, directly in front of the house and on the water's edge (Thanks Tim!) This improved the view by like a 1000%(what seemed like a perfect view got even better!) Have a Happy Holiday Season and a Joyous New Year. Thanks! Dave and Veronica

Excellent vacation! Dave and Veronica were very accomodating. Very quiet and close to hiking and biking trails. The kids enjoyed kayaking and fishing, they even forgot what cell phones and video games were for a week. We highly recommend a stay on Loon Lake.

This cottage couldn't have been nicer or any better-equipped! The outside had beautiful views, with lots of room for outdoor activities and a beautiful stone fireplace. You can see Whiteface Mountain across the lake--which is not over-populated. We had fun paddling the canoe to check out the "busier" side of the lake. Inside the cabin was everything we needed to be comfortable--nicely decorated, great views from the bedroom windows and sunporch. We woke to loons calling each morning. Easy drive to Saranac or Lake Placid, check out the many farmer's markets for fresh fruit and vegetables, breads and honey--it seems there's one nearby every day of the week! We also enjoyed hiking and exploring at Paul Smith's Visitor interpretive Center. There's lots of free local music and concerts available in the area--check the local guidebook in the cabin. We'll be back and would definitely recommend this property to friends!
