Casa Contenta, which means "house full of joy" is located on a residential street that shares its address with some of San Miguel’s most luxurious Boutique Hotels and B & Bs. Though effortlessly convenient to the hustle and bustle of world class restaurants, art galleries, theatres, historic sites, and shopping galore... once inside the doors of your 'home away from home' you’ll retreat to a world of historical charm and restful décor.

You’ll appreciate the best of all worlds in this recently renovated 300 year old historic home. Classic colonial ambiance blended with and all the conveniences of the 21 century are yours to enjoy. Whereas so many houses in San Miguel give you the sense of 'Look, but don't touch...' Casa Contenta invites you to curl up and make yourself at home!

This welcoming home features three well separated bedrooms each with ensuite baths (all have bathtubs & showers- candles included) Two suites are situated street level, and the third is on the second terrace level. Each suite includes a Queen Size Pillow-Top mattress bed with Luxury Linens and Down Comforter, Gas Fireplace, T.V., DVD player and Wireless Internet Access.

Relax in your lovely living room area (sala) with comfortable overstuffed furnishings and tranquil décor. The adjacent dining area (comedor) highlights the owner’s beautiful 350 year old Spanish monastery antique dining table. The entire area opens through multiple French Doors to a central courtyard overflowing with ferns and palms and the melodious sounds of this historic home’s beautiful stone fountain. A fully-equipped modern kitchen is yours to use or Teresa, your housekeeper, will gladly prepare an authentic Mexican breakfast or lunch for your group to enjoy. Teresa will even shop for your basic needs and supplies. (trust me… she’ll take good care of you)

On the home’s second level you’ll enjoy a spacious open terrace (teraza) with covered living area where you’ll take in some of the most magnificent sunsets and enchanting city views you’ll ever experience. This is everyone’s favorite place to be! The views of the Parroquia (main church) are absolutely stunning at night. There's even a kitchenette on this level so don’t forget to ask Teresa to share our favorite ‘Fresh Mango Margaritas’ recipe with you. There are several patio areas for dining alfresco, curling up with a good book or taking that all important Mexican Siesta.

Your home is staffed by a very capable Teresa on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays from morning until 2:00 p.m. We find the majority of our Guests enjoy the combination of being pampered and attended to while also taking advantage of a sprinkling of days where they enjoy complete privacy. Should you wish to have a staff person on Tuesday, Thursdays, or Saturdays, we can often arrange this at an additional minimal cost per day. Monday’s and Friday’s your gardener, Juan, will spend a few hours tending to the myriad of potted plants and making sure your exterior areas are clean and comfortable. There is also a English speaking off-site house manager, Omar, who is available to attend to any household urgencies. Kathleen, the owner, is pleased to leave you her cell phone number should any emergency arise.

  • We stayed in Casa Contenta for the month of August. It is a gorgeous property and extremely well-managed. In addition, the owner helped me with suggestions and even made arrangements for some local activities. Every detail at the house has been considered and thoughtfully addressed. Although the photos show the gorgeous rooftop deck, they do not show the large and tranquil courtyard running the length of the ground floor. In San Miguel, location is key and this house has it! The central square, the fanciest hotel in town, the spa and great restaurants are all very close. If you wish to take a taxi somewhere a bit farther, you can easily obtain one by walking out the front door and waiting for just a few minutes. I can't say enough about this wonderful property. I have stayed at and seen many other houses in San Miguel and this one tops all of them.

  • So beautiful. It was like something out of Architectural Digest or an interior design home magazine. The owner, Kathleen, was professional and made us feel very welcome.   • We traveled to San Miguel for the annual International Chamber Music Festival in August 2008. We have to say, it was like traveling to Italy without the price tag or the effort. Casa Contenta was just perfect. The location of the property is second to none only a few blocks from the center of everything- and the views! Imagine- an entire well appointed, well staffed Colonial home for half the price of a small hotel room right down the street. The staff was both available and discreet. My wife insists that I mention that they really catered to us with elements such as fresh flowers in our room and candles left on the romantic roof-top patio. I have to admit, it was exactly what the Doctor ordered. Teresa, the housekeeper, was wonderful. Everything was simple, clean and elegant and as they say in their website- it really was relaxing. We don’t usually visit the same place twice but we both decided that with the proximity to the U.S., the number of high-quality International Arts Festivals, the great restaurants and the ease of getting around- we’ll definitely be back to San Miguel and to Casa Contenta soon.   • "My family and I have had the pleasure to vacation at Casa Contenta several times in the last few years. It has always been wonderful! I love the fact that it is an easy 2 block walk to the main jardin, and is located in the same blocks where all the elegant hotels are (even the Sierra Nevada spa is right down the street!). I love having a house instead of a hotel, but with all the benefits the hotels bring (spa, restaurants, etc.) Plus, I have to admit it, I feel so cool opening those big wooden doors to enter our 'own home' instead of staying at the hotels. I have seen many rental homes in San Miguel that were just too much for my eyes (ie, Mexico = really bright primary crayon colors!), but this home is restful and beautiful. After a day of markets, vibrant colors all over town, even the different language, it is a pleasure to come back to this home and relax! Beds are incredibly luxurious, I love the bathrooms, the owner is so friendly and accommodating, and the views from the 2nd story gazebo are fabulous. There is a master suite upstairs for those who want their own privacy (even a second kitchen), but the two bedrooms downstairs are also lovely, each with their own bathrooms, and each have enough privacy that three couples would be very happy in this home. Highly recommended!"
