Hal-Sea-On House is perfectly located and can accommodate a group; the home is situated on a private road in the village of Glen Arbor and shares a private beach on Lake Michigan.
With its two living rooms, two kitchens, three-season porch and deck the home easily handles an extended family, a wedding group, or families who traditionally vacation together. The main dining area seats 14. New wood flooring has been installed in all main living areas including both living rooms, the main dining area, and hallways.
The home is located on a private road that ends at Lake Michigan providing picturesque views of the lake and Manitou islands, stunning sunsets, and a 1 minute direct walk to the private beach. During the summer season the light is visible from the South Manitou lighthouse and large freighters are often seen travelling through the Manitou passage. There are no bluffs or stairs to reach the beach; the beach is fine white sand as is the gently sloping lake bottom. (Lake Michigan is constantly changing; occassionally there may be several feet of small smooth stones at the edge of the lake.) Four kayaks and accompanying life vests are available for your enjoyment, as well as several bicycles. An outdoor shower has been added for convenience when returning from the beach.
Walk in the opposite direction from the lake and 3 minutes brings you into the heart of quaint Glen Arbor to enjoy locally-owned restaurants that range from casual to fine dining, organic to gourmet pizza.
Galleries featuring local artists, specialty shops, eco-friendly mini golf, kayaking the lazy Crystal River, bicycle rental, tennis courts, fishing charters, a winery, legendary Art’s Tavern, and Cherry Republic - the world’s largest retailer of American cherry products - are all steps from your front door.
Several golf courses are within a 15 minute drive, as is downhill and cross country skiing. There are 17 wineries located throughout the Leelanau Peninsula for tours and tastings, as well as a casino (30 min), 140-year-old Leland Fishtown for fresh and smoked Lake Michigan fish and accompanying fare (20 min), a historic lighthouse at the tip of the peninsula in the Leelanau State Park (45 min), and a restored Coast Guard station and lighthouse in Glen Haven (5 min).
A 10 min. drive will bring you to marinas on Glen Lake where you can rent a boat and tour the beautiful Glen Lakes.
Festivals, celebrations and tours occur throughout the year in Glen Arbor and surrounding communities including the Empire Asparagus festival, the Glen Arbor 4th of July Parade, the Leland Food and Wine Festival, and numerous art and music events.
Glen Arbor is in the heart of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore Park which provides opportunities for hiking on your own or hikes guided by the National Park Service or the Leelanau Conservancy. The National Park Service provides snow-shoe lessons and free snow-shoes rentals during the winter.
The 400 foot Sleeping Bear Dune is easily accessible and offers magnificent views of the bay. Visit the dune climb and climb the face of a 150 foot dune located 5 minutes from Glen Arbor.
Every season is a wonder in this National Park from the cherry blossoms and fresh produce in the spring, the miles of white sand beaches and outdoor activities in the summer, the majestic colors and festivals in the fall, and the softness and beauty of wintertime.
While all the activities and amenities in Glen Arbor are just around the corner from your front door at Hal-Sea-On House, the home’s location is secluded and away from the hustle and bustle of town. The only sounds are the waves lapping the shore, the breeze in the pines, and the laughter of guests enjoying their vacation “up north”.
And, if you’re wondering, why the funny name? It’s our version of “halcyon” which means happy, peaceful and calm.

Thank you for another great weekend of family memories at your lovely home on Lake Michigan! Your cottage (but is more than a cottage - it is a home away from home) is so well equipped for our many siblings and grandchildren and we enjoyed the beautiful view of Lake Michigan. We noticed the new wood floors that are beautiful and were very comfortable in your nice rooms and kitchens and bedrooms. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your home for a weekend family reunion! We hope to come back to Glen Arbor again!

Pros - Location (walk to the heart of Glen Arbor), size, stocked with everything a large group needs, kayaks, Lake Michigan, proximity to the dune climb. Cons - No beach chairs and no air conditioning. Would stay here again, so long as the temperature was below 90 degrees. Love Glen Arbor!

We come from "afar and anear" places like N.Y.C., Milwaukee, Grand Rapids, Detroit, San Francisco, Lansing, and Dallas. We had ages 5 months to us senior citizens of young 66. Your home was perfect for our many needs and the Glen Arbor community is perfect for accessibility and variety. This is the first year our group has gathered in the Glen Arbor community since the 1980's. We Shall Return!

Love your house! We have 12 people and everyone has found their own space - this is the 2nd Presidents' day weekend we have enjoyed your space. I'm amazed that so many people can be under one roof and still you can feel as though no-one else is there - if you want to be alone. Hope we can come again next year.

We had such a wonderful time in your beautiful home. We are a group of friends that have been friends for 20 years; there were five couples here this weekend and we call ourselves the Happy Hour Gang. So we thank you for your beautiful home that holds in its walls our laughter, our tears, our hopes and dreams, our love for our children, and our cherished memories of being together. We leave having been comfortable and relaxed, full of joy and thankful to this house for holding us all close for a short while.

"What the heart has once owned it shall never lose"_Eliot. We shall never lose the beauty of this beautiful place. We all had a grand time at this most inviting abode and are grateful we found it. It added so much to a happy time and made the nuptials of our precious son/grandson/daughter/granddaughter ever so meaningful. We are sad to have to leave and hope to return soon.

The house was absolutely beautiful. It was wonderful having the opportunity to be close enough to both the lake and the town. I loved my time here and can't wait to return "Up North" as a beloved fudgie.

We had such a fun time in your lake house. The lake is so beautiful. This is a great place to have a family vacation. I loved going out on the kayaks. We also loved how close to the town we were. A family of 15 fit very well in here! Thank you so much for letting us use your house. Hopefully we will be back. Thanks again.
