What a wonderful place to get away. The cabin is decorated beautifully and has everything you need for peace and tranquility.A place to enjoy each other and nature. We had a great time and am looking forward to going again.

Owner response:Thank you for staying at my cabin. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. I hope you will come again. Spring, summer and fall are wonderful in the Berkshires as well, but of course warmer and you don't have to worry about your car getting stuck in the snow. Tom

Well-Appointed Cabin in the Woods

Guest: Meredith M.
Date of Stay: 10/14/11 Review Submitted: 10/21/11

My husband, our baby, and I spent a relaxing weekend here with my in-laws. The cabin offers a luxurious experience. There was a bottle of wine and a carton of cookies waiting for us upon arrival. The cabin is handsomely furnished with interesting pieces, including tables built by the owner and art objects from around the world. While our bedroom was on the small side, it was comfortable and attractive. The cabin includes a well-stocked kitchen, making it easy for us to cook meals together. We spent a lot of time hanging out in the great room, which is a beautiful space -- cathedral ceiling, lots of windows, stone wall and fireplace. We enjoyed sitting by the fire in the evening, as well as relaxing with the sun streaming in during the morning. The cabin is located in a picturesque spot next to a river, surrounded by woods. We were there in October, when the leaves were turning yellows and oranges. We used the cabin as a base for a hiking expedition at nearby Mt. Everett and several trips into Great Barrington. The whole area is quite beautiful, and we enjoyed exploring the back roads. While the property is expensive, it was worth it. We felt like we were staying in luxury accommodations.

Owner response:Meredith, thank you for your very kind review of my property. I am so pleased that you and your family enjoyed your stay in the Berkshires, it is beautiful country. I hope you will think of us again when you want to get away next time. In the winter, my grandchildren enjoy sliding down the driveway on sleds, which i keep there for your use. Also I thank you for leaving the cabin is such a neat and tidy condition. My cleaning service even commented on how clean and neat you left it. I would be very pleased to have you come again. Tom

We've just returned from a terrific weekend at this house, it was everything we could have hoped for and more! We took the kids down to the beautiful stream and they had fun stacking rocks and wading in the water. We made a fire, ate lunch on the patio, and enjoyed the serenity of this lovely, well-kept house. Thanks for a memorable weekend. We will recommend your place without hesitation to any friends that want a quiet place to unwind.

I was pleasantly surprised by this house, so charming and very roomy. We came in town for a wedding and there were 11 of us and it perfectly accommodated our large group. The house was very clean and comfortable. We had a great stay and couldn't have asked for anything better. Another plus, the owner of the house is great. He's very responsive to emails/calls and easy to work with. I recommend this rental with NO hesitations! Thank you!!

Owner response:Meghan, thank you very much for the wonderful review of my cabin. I am truly please that all of you enjoyed yourselves. I hope you will consider my cabin again should you be visiting the Berkshires in the future. Tom

Great Secluded Family Retreat

Guest: Jen (Greensboro, NC)
Date of Stay: 08/20/11 Review Submitted: 08/29/11

This place was great! Since the owner uses this cabin with his own family, he has accumulated everything anyone could need for their own family retreat. Very well equipped, from games, kids toys, books, videos, well-equipped kitchen, washer and dryer. Plenty to do, even on a rainy day. It truly felt like a home away from home.

Owner response:Jenifer, thank you for your kind review. I'm very please that you enjoyed your stay and hope you will come again. Tom

Away from it All... But Close to Everything

Guest: Vacationing New Yorkers (New York, NY)
Date of Stay: 07/15/11 Review Submitted: 08/24/11

My family stayed at this beautiful cabin for three weeks, and enjoyed every moment of our stay. The house has everything you will need for a vacation, from a well-equipped kitchen to a large children's video/ DVD collection. The house lies on a quiet country road in a wooded area where we saw chipmunks, deer, groundhogs and a variety of birds, as well as frogs and trout in the river which runs through the property. The best feature of the house is a shaded deck that sits above the river where you can enjoy your meals while listening to the rushing water. The house is a quick, easy drive to the restaurants and shops of Great Barrington, if you feel like trading your pastoral setting for a quaint Berkshire town. As a bonus, the owner is lovely and gets back to you within minutes, should you have a question while you are staying at the house. We highly recommend this property.

Accurate description

Guest: Bill and Irma (Pittsburgh, PA)
Date of Stay: 07/25/10 Review Submitted: 08/18/10

The listing is very accurate. This is a lovely house, comfortable in every way. Beautifully laid out and furnished, especially the kitchen, with every utensil, pan or dish you would ever need. Very clean, comfortable beds and furniture. House was very clean. We were looking for peace and quiet--this was the place! Sitting on the shady deck you could hear the river below--just as Mr. Gilbert indicated. There was even a supply of charcoal for the grille. Lots of books, DVD's and TV. A great escape for relaxation and getting away (but we still had cell phone reception, which was nice). The town of Great Barrington, Mass., about 8 miles away, was so cute--movie theater, restaurants, shops, church, but very uncommercial. Some unique stores, and a great grocery store with fresh fish, vegetables fruits and even prepared foods. We loved this house. The river was low for fishing, but this was expected in July. The wooded area at the house was cool and comfortable (we were there during a very hot spell--high 90's-in New York and were so glad to escape the heat) -even going down to 55 degrees one night. Three large ceiling fans keep the house very cool. We built a fire and enjoyed ourselves on the cool nights. Beautiful fireplace in the living room, with a supply of wood. Mr. Gilbert was lovely to work with. Had we not left the property, we would not have seen one person all week, which we were happy about. Heavily wooded between the houses, which are a good distance apart, so you are not bothered by neighbors. If you are looking for a quiet getaway, this is the place! We would love to go up in winter and watch the snow fall in this beautiful environment. Another nice feature--a large bird feeder hung from the deck. I am not a bird watcher, but I was captivated by the many different and colorful birds that came every day. They were fascinating to watch, and I got some great pictures of them. If you have children who need to be constantly entertained, this is probably not the place, but if you are looking for all the comforts of home in a beautiful, natural surrounding without noise of city or neighbors, this is THE place. Thank you Mr. Gilbert for renting your lovely home to us. We absolutely hated to leave for the trip back to Pittsburgh. I hope we can visit again. Oh..., and the Scrabble board got a good workout! Our mini-vacation at this warm and inviting house was just amazing! The owner, Tom, goes above and beyond to make your stay everything you could imagine. The house is wonderfully decorated and very comfortable. The beautiful hand-made chess set kept our teens busy for hours! We will definitely return!
