Great stay during the holidays

My friends and myself are in the military so it's sometimes hard to get everyone in the same location at the same time, but this house was close to the airport which helped and had more than enough room for all of us. The media room was great as was the kitchen and the location had us close enough for all of our sightseeing needs. There was a slight confusion about dates but Shelia was great about working it out with us quickly and fairly. A great stay from top to bottom.

Great house for a family vacation

My extended family-- six adults including two "seniors" and five children (ages 1 year to 20)-- spent 5 days at La Casa over Thanksgiving. There was plenty of room for all of us. All the beds were comfortable, there were loads of closets, and the housekeeping was fine. Everything was clean. The kitchen was big and well equipped. Virginia, the housekeeper was always pleasant, available, and very helpful. She did a beautiful job serving Thanksgiving dinner. There was lots to do in the house for children and adults. The children enjoyed the great collection of toys and art materials and games. Even the adults played some of the games. We all enjoyed the WI and the big video screen, which worked perfectly. There are wonderful art books and other interesting books for adults, too. There was so much to do in the house that one didn't need to go out. But of course we did. We enjoyed River Walk and two nearby shopping malls, and we loved the modern art museum, which is only a few minutes away. Don't miss it. There's a very large outdoor swimming pool which, unfortunately, it was too cool (late November) to use. There's also a very friendly outdoor cat, which, as a cat lover, I played with. The house decor is unusual to say the least--very colorful (red dining room walls), old fashioned weird chandeliers, lots of colorful art work. I don't think I'd want to live there all the time, but for a vacation house it was unique, amusing, and charming. The only problem with the house from my point of view was the upstairs layout. To reach one of the bedrooms you had to go through another bedroom. An extra upstairs bathroom would have made life easier. Although there were two, one was in the master bedroom suite. but we managed ok. If I went back to San Antonio, I would use this house again. (I'd try to come when the weather is better so I could use the pool.) It's a great place for a large family group to get together and enjoy themselves. I would recommend it.

We had a large party stay here. Used soap bars from the previous guests in all the bathrooms. Master bed was like sleeping in a Motel 6 bed. Pull out bed was like sleeping on box springs. Shower malfunctioned, no hot water in one bathroom. Had to ask for toilet paper. paper towels, towels, everytime. Housekeeping service was poor at best. Candle wax droppings on the formal dining, and coffee tables. Disgusting. 2 chairs on the bfast table falling apart. Media room screen/projector has blue splotches all over the screen, so you can't see TV very well. On last night of stay, got no maid service at all. Upon calling the prop manager (had to call 5 times), they apologized. I asked for a partial refund due to all the problems in the house, but they said since I already received a discounted rate (which we negotiated BEFORE renting the place), they said too bad they will not reduce the rate. Good central location, but WOULD NOT stay here again. Ever.

Owner response:We have been in the homeaway rental business for two years and you are the first disgruntled client we have experienced. I agree used soaps from previous guests in the bathroom is gross and a terrible oversight in housekeeping. I do apologize for that. Please note that we do provide liquid soaps in all bathrooms for our houseguests to use. Uncomfortable beds? No one else has complained about the comfort of the master bedroom "Sleep Comfort bed" or the pull out Italian Natuzzi sofa. The shower malfunctioning? A screw-in lever had come unscrewed in the shower head which led to the inability of making an adjustment to the stream of water coming out of the shower head. The shower still was functioning, useable and the screw was tightened the next morning. No hot water in one bathroom? The home is 5,000 SF and hot water is provided to the entire house by a very large water heater. The bathroom in question is the furthest from the hot water heater and it can take up to 45 seconds for the water to turn hot. Partial Refund? As you stated, you were already given a discount for your requested additional night stay. The partial refund you requested would have meant that your party of 13 stayed 'free". We regret that you found your stay to be less than exceptional and appreciate your constructive suggestions. We welcome the homeaway staff to come stay at La Casa Elegante, "su casa when in San Antonio!"

Perfect Golf Weekend

I don’t normally post reviews, but we had such an absolutely perfect weekend staying at this beautiful house, that I felt I should. Everything was as advertised (no pictures taken from ladders in the corner of a room, etc.) The house was clean, well kept, and very unique. The owner has a great style and there was no doubt that you weren't staying at a bland, vanilla hotel. We spent most of the time in the pool and in-front of the giant high def projection TV. The first morning our group was there, Virginia made a fabulous tex-mex breakfast for us, talk about Southern hospitably! The owner knew we were there for golf and left us a welcome gift of balls, tees and brochures. Another great welcome surprise! All in all, it was an amazing weekend at a perfect location. Highly, highly recommended. We'll be back!

We had a really big group of people for my daughters wedding in San Antonio, this house more than met our needs. While I didn't get time to use the sauna in the master bathroom due to all of the running around I had to do for the wedding, our family and friends enjoyed the pool on an almost daily basis. I stayed afraid for my grandsons, but they are two so anytime you put them near a staircase I start freaking out. I would have had a more relaxed time if it wasn't for the little ones and my fears of children and staircases together. Sheila and Virginia were great and went out of their way to make us feel at home. If you are looking for a home away from home, this is your place.
