My husband, one year old son and I stayed in the Yellow cabin in the middle of July 2011.. and absolutely loved it! It is such a relaxing place and in a great location- close to lake Almanor (a must-see when the weather is warm!), close to Lassen and to the gorgeous little town of Chester. Helga is just gorgeous and made us feel so welcome, we wished we could have stayed longer. The price makes it amazingly affordable and we had a wonderful, wonderful time. Ideal for a couple or a family with little ones! Thanks Helga for a wonderful highlight in our vacation.

If you are looking for old-fashioned comfort and hospitality, this is a perfect place for staying in the Chester area. Helga is the perfect hostess and has thought of everything to make the cabin a comfortable place to stay. We can't praise enough how clean everything was. High European standards of cleanliness! The kitchen is fully furnished and easy for utilizing. There is a nice market in town for buying some things and also renting DVD's. The shower was great with lots of hot water, towels, etc. We enjoyed the quiet, rural setting and the duck pond! Since we had some unseasonable rain and snow, the Cable TV and DVD player were appreciated. If you are looking for a fancy place, this wouldn't be for you (or anywhere in Chester for that matter.) But for clean, comfortable accommodations while visiting the Lassen area, we wouldn't hesitate to recommend this little cabin to anyone. Thank you Helga!

Just spent a week at the cabin and loved it! The cabin was super clean and the pond was great! It was cold while we were there (snowed one day) but the cabin was super warm with multiple thermostats. Kitchen was fully stocked with all the utensils we needed! We will definitely be back! Thanks Helga and Walter!

I hope you like ducks and warm hospitality because both are in big supply here. Helga and Walt are to be appreciated and enjoyed by those that like wholesome down to earth people. My stay here is always peaceful and the rooms are clean and comfy. If you are lucky enough to catch a fish or two on your outings Helga is more than up for helping pack these for you too. These folks once had their own trout ponds as well as a restaurant and lodge nearby so they do know how to accomodate people in the nicest fashion. Hope you have a chance to experience the clean air, water, and company that comes along with the yellow cabin. I know I will be back as much and as often as possible....

We have stayed at Helga's little cabin two years in a row, and will continue coming back, yearly. Helga is the sweetest lady, and the cabin is ultra-clean, with a spectacular, quiet location. It feels like home. We just adore Helga and her lovely husband, Walter, who we're sure to bring a trout or a bass. She calls me, "Fish Renee", and that's because we go up to fish. We will return as often as we can. It's a great getaway, and it's close to everything we like to do up there. Hospitality is what makes a place a getaway and Helga's full of hospitality and friendly, good humor.

What a treasure. A week with Walter and Helga's hospitality and the superb accomodations in their special cabin was not enough. Peaceful quietness in a unique setting, coupled with far more to do in the immediate area, makes for mandatory return visits. If you are looking for the best stop in the Lassen area, this is it. I stayed at the little yellow cabin the first week in June, 09... What a get-away! Quiet, relaxing and affordable accommodations with the world's greatest hosts.. The small own of Chester was a delight to explore as were the creeks and meadows in the surrounding area. I want to go back!

We have just returned from a 3 day stay at the magical yellow cabin. The pristine surroundings of these ancient woods really make you feel at peace. Just as special are the hosts, Walter and Helga. Talking with them about their lives and pioneer spirit that led them to California is an inspiration for the rest of us!

When we first made reservations for the yellow house, we had no idea how fabulous our stay would be. Since our first stay, we have returned three times; again will be returning in September. There are no negatives for renting this lovely, comfortable, immaculate cabin (we have also stayed in the smaller unit: another exceptionally nice experience.) Both units are stocked with all your needs (except for food, actually, coffee and tea are provided.) On another positive note; when you rent from Helga and Walter, the duck pond is an added attraction with entertainment from the ducks, squirrels, and wandering deer. Relaxing in provided lawn chairs, you may view the mountain snow peaks and beautiful open meadow. The place is surrounded by interesting and enjoyable wildlife. In addition, near by fishing and deer hunting is great. We will continue to come back year after year. Helga and Walter are the greatest hosts you could ever find. We consider them both our family; full of cheerful spirit and warm hearts. Diane & Walt / Davis, CA

We spent an entire week at this cabin and didn't want to come home. It was so peaceful and quiet and being right on the wild bird pond added a flavor of camping in the wilderness. There were many trails to explore, old cemeteries to creep through, creeks to wade and Lake Almanor for fishing or swimming but the best part of all were our hosts, Helga and Walter.. it was like visiting family. They made us feel so at home and hospitality seemed to be their forte'! I highly recommend this woodsy get-away. The roasted marsh mellows never tasted so good as they did on Walter's open fire pit and we had live entertainment watching the ducks, chipmunks and squirrels frolic and fuss over the unsalted peanuts we threw them. The rental price was also well within our budget and allowed us to experience this wonderful trip to the forest. The accommodations were more than clean and comfortable... I give it 5 stars!
