Lanes Cove Apartment has just been converted from a yearly lease rental to a weekly vacation rental. All the old went out and now it’s been completely refurnished and redecorated. It’s done in contemporary furniture, mostly black and white, with splashes of fuchsia and chartreuse. Fabulous look!
The beautifully furnished and accessorized living/dining room leads through a glass slider to a private deck, and both these areas have lovely views of the ocean and gardens. The bedroom is furnished with a new black iron bed, an antique mirrored chest, and a full length mirror. The bathroom is spotless and in excellent condition like the rest of the apartment.
The modern kitchen has all the expected appliances, gadgets, and equipment for cooking, serving and cleaning. But, before you get too excited about the low rates, I must tell you that the photos make the rooms look larger than they actually are. I understand that the necessary fish-eye lens does that. Despite my confession, I know you’ll be pleased with Lanes Cove Apartment.
Please check the availability calendar on the right hand side of this page. Also, please keep in mind that the Apartment is rented by the week. However, sometimes guests rent for more days than a week, leaving a few days open. In that case I would rent for a shorter period.

Why the Owner Chose Gloucester
What could be a more desirable location than on the ocean? There are beautiful vistas at every turn.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment
I get to be one of the lucky ones, living in a beautiful area and meeting all kinds of interesting people.
Owner's Map of Gloucester
I'm a retired teacher who bought a mid-1800s Victorian house in 1995 with too many rooms. In 2001 I started to rent rooms as a bed and breakfast home. When that got easy enough to handle, I converted my great old barn into a gorgeous large vacation home. It has been very successful, so I changed my lower level apartment into a really cool and affordable vacation rental. I just finished it this past week, in June 2009. During these 14 years of living in Lanesville, I also installed lots of gardens and won a garden award last year. Another confession: My sister and brother-in-law nominated my garden. I figure I'll get tired and stop expanding when I'm 85, maybe.

A Charming Home Away From Home!

I just have to leave a review after the wonderful vacation I just had staying at Lanes Cove House in the apartment. First, when we arrived Anna greeted us warmly and showed me around the apartment and let me know how various things worked and where everything was located. Then, being able to park right outside our door was a wonderful convenience for unloading our things. Once unloaded we walked out on the deck and were awestruck by the beautiful sunset, which remained just as beautiful on our last day as it was on our first. This apartment is located in close proximity to all sorts of things you might want to do while in Gloucester. Even before we arrived Anna emailed us with information on a River Cruise, it was wonderful! The beautiful photographs I was able to get....it’s going to be hard this year to figure out which photos I want to frame! All the amenities provided made this apartment feel like a home away from home. We went fishing one day while there, and were able to come back and cook what we caught while enjoying our ocean view. The convenience of a washer and dryer made it possible for me to return home without having “trip laundry” to do. I have nothing but good things to say about this wonderful treasure of an apartment, we plan on returning again and again! Thank you Anna!

Had a wonderful stay in the one bedroom apartment. Anna thought of everything - beach chairs, beach towels, etc. Also, she was always available for and more than willing to offer suggestions for restaurants and other local events that really rounded out our stay in Cape Ann. Will definitely book there again!

Anna's little apartment is exactly as pictured, and what a cozy little getaway it is with its own landscaped yard and secluded path to the cove. Being off the beaten path, it is exactly what we were looking for with a lovely view of the sea, beautiful sunsets and fabulous autumn foliage. Anna is a meticulous host and everything was tidy and well appointed. We did however have problems with internet and cell phone reception but Anna supplies a landline with free long-distance service. Although there is a liquor store offering a few groceries within walking distance a car is necessary to go to a grocery with a wider selection at better prices. If you want to enjoy the best New England has to offer, avoid the tourist crush and come in fall.
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children.
Cosy and Quiet Apartment for Two

We stayed here in May 2010. The apartment is exactly as depicted. It is not large but fine for two people and would work for a couple with a child given the really nice sofa bed in the living area. We felt we had plenty of room. The place is up to date and had plenty of nice dishes and cookingware as well as a charcol grill. The built-in dishwasher was a big help too. Having Wifi really helped me with my family research in the area. Everything is on one level, but if you plan to walk around town, the town is a bit hilly. Sunsets were amazing. Lane's Cove in Lanesville is a bit out of the way, which was perfect for us. It was not crowded, but we were there before the season started. You will have to shop in Rockport or Gloucester (about 15-20 min drive), though there is a small package store with some basics in Lanseville as well as a really nice coffee shop. The nearest restaurants other than the "the Grind" are a couple of miles away--one north in Folly Cove and the other south almost to Gloucester. There is a kayak rental place in Lanesville too. The nearest beach is small and about a mile down the road (though locals also swin in the Cove itself--but it is rocky)--we did not visit any beaches as the weather was still cool during our visit. Anna does have passes to receive discounted parking at the beaches. Anna is a great hostess and made our stay quite pleasant. We will return once we can figure out when we can get two weeks free again! There is local bus service (recommended for going into Rockport on weekends--there is no parking in town there) and commuter trains to Boston running out of Rockport (recommended--as there is parking at the station) and Gloucester, which we used to go see the Red Sox play at Fenway. This is not for folks who are looking for a city experience as Lanesville is pretty quiet, except, perhaps on the Fourth, but you are pretty close to everything--it just takes a little time and a relaxed attitude to get there as you really don't want to drive more than 25-30 mph on most parts of the Cape. We only used two tanks of gas the whole week and were frequently in Gloucester, Essex (try Farnham's Clamsor the Village Restaurant), and Rockport (try Ellen's Harborside). We also did a whale watch with Capt Bill's in Gloucester. Historical sights that were worthwhile were the Essex Shipbuilding Museum in Essex and the Cape Ann Museum (also a good art museum) as well as the Gloucester Maritime Heritage Center in Gloucester.
