Great Winter Getaway

My wife, baby daughter, dog, and I rented this house for a couple nights in late December. The owner was easy to work with and the house is very complete and comfortable. It felt much more like borrowing a friend's well-established second home then it did renting a cabin. We lucked out with the winter pricing, we may try to talk some friends into sharing it with us during the summer. Some things that may be useful to know when planning a trip: 1) The upstairs bathroom (near the king sized bed) is open to the loft, which in turn is open to the downstairs. There is quite a bit of distance and some barriers, but depending on the nature of the group this could be interesting. 2) Although very much out in the woods there are several other cabins right in that area, as it butts up against state forest land. This was not an issue for us in anyway. 3) The road is a surprisingly well maintained private dirt road, although the gravel has sunk in. Our light-duty SUV was fine, although it might get a bit interesting if you have a low-clearance car during mud season. 4) It is a 10-15 minutes drive to a decent general store which is currently testing out sit-down dining. It is however a good drive to a standard grocery store. I recommend bringing a cooler with most of your food, and depending on how long you stay supplementing with milk, eggs, bacon, etc at the general store. 5) For better or worse there is a tiny sliver of dodgy AT&T reception (with EDGE), not sure about Verizon. 6) The address actually worked in our particular GPS, which helped when arriving in the dark. 7) There is some space outside suitable for older kids to run around in. This cabin was actually a bit overkill for our needs, but would work wonders for a larger family or two small families that like to vacation together. The wood stove, crib, allowance of dogs, fully equipped kitchen so we could cook and bake, and the wooded setting were what drew us in.

Great place to stay. Owner is great. Second year staying here. Plenty of room. Pics do not do the place justice. We are boat owners and Raystown Lake is awesome! Loved our nightly campfires at the fire ring. Very clean and well stocked. Would definately recommend this place.

Drooly Bear is about 10-15minutes to Raystown Lake. Plenty of room for a two couples. The kitchen was fully stocked with all you need to cook and even had spices; thanks!!! We roasted marshmallows and smores at the fire pit. Owner provided great directions and places of interest in the area. We would stay again and will share our adventure with others. Thanks Todd!!

My husband & I have taken many different vactions with alot of time & travel involved. We chose to "getaway" but yet stay close to home. By far, this has been our best vacation yet!!! The house was clean, welcoming, and very cozy. Being able to bring along our small dogs, was just another added bonus. This was everything we were looking. We have not stop talking about how inviting the cabin was and when we can make our next trip back. We loved all the sites & parks only minutes from the cabin. Huntingdon county was like stepping back in time, thru peaceful communities and small towns w/ much history. From the moment I made contact with, Matt, he made the whole rental process effortless and very accomodating!

We had an AWESOME time! The cabin is beautiful; the pictures don’t do it justice. Pulling up to the cabin, we were blown away. Our stay was so relaxing and refreshing. The cabin is an excellent place to get away and leave the outside world behind. You are still close to civilization to be able to go hiking, biking or just go site seeing. The stay at The Drooly Bear Cabin is hands down the best vacation we have been on. Thank you Matt for making it all possible. We will make The Drooly Bear Cabin our permanent location for all of our fall vacations.

A truly beautiful property. Awesome cabin, extremely well equipped and maintained. Even nicer in person than in the photos. A little remote, but perfect location for quiet R&R. Not too far from Raystown Lake, Allegrippis MTB trails, Huntington, etc. Owner was responsive and helpful. Would definitely recommend it.

Our stay at Drooly Bear Cabin was a lengthy and WONDERFUL one! Everything was so clean and well taken care of! It was so comfortable and welcoming! I've stayed in many cabins, but never before had an owner as welcoming, concerned or willing to work with you! I will most definitely be recommending this cabin to friends. I want to go back again in 2011 as it is! The area is majestic! We 'fortunately' had two HUGE snowstorms! What a place to be in the snow!! We loved it!

Our family enjoyed a long week-end here. Although the weather did not allow for outdoor activities each day, we all appreciated the peace and quiet for reading and relaxing. We will keep this on our list for a return visit.

My family stayed at the Drooly Bear Cabin and I must admit this is a wonderful secluded location and the accommodations are well worth the price. The cabin is secluded, it will take you about 15 minutes to get to Lake Raystown Resort but we found it worth the drive for the environment that was provided. We will be return guests in the near future as this is a wonderful place to stay.
