This one-of-a-kind house and grounds offer a spectacular view of the Ventura coastline.

Perched on a bluff above downtown, this quiet location is just a couple of blocks easy walk from unique shops and galleries, a variety of restaurants in all price ranges, vibrant nightlife, live theater, live music, cinema, the San Buenaventura Mission, an archeological dig and the local museum.

Our property offers open beam ceilings through out and an open and airy feel. A 30 foot expanse of window across the front of the living room provides an unobstructed view of the coast including the Ventura Harbor, historic wooden pier, and the magnificent Channel Islands.

Breath taking sunsets can complete a wonderful day. In the fall, high clouds enhance the beauty of the setting sun. August 5, 2009 through August 16, 2009 the Ventura County Fair is open and the nightly fireworks displays are in full view from the front patio, sunning area, master bedroom and living room (weather permitting).

The property features rich and lush foliage and gardens offering citrus fruit in season and fresh herbs which may be harvested for your cooking needs. The peaceful garden is a sanctuary for many species of birds. Quail, dove, finch, jay, oriel, mocking bird, owl and hawk, and several species of humming birds, have all been sighted in the trees above and around the garden A wide variety of succulents give year round greenery while spring time brings a beautiful bloom of bulbs. Occasional orchid flowers bring added grace to this cool and shaded paradise.

A small studio apartment is also on the property and the long time tenant is the person responsible for the care of the gardens and plants. The laundry facility is shared with this tenant. Your privacy will be honored and gardening times will be scheduled with you if needed during your stay.

Why the Owner Chose Ventura

This beautiful home was built by our grandparents. They resided here for over 56 years. The house design was considered ahead of its time when it was built in 1951. This unique home was featured Sunset Magazine when still new. Our family loves this special place and although the house will have to b sold when the market recovers, a vacation rental allows us to continue to use this wonderful space for family gatherings when not occupied by vacation renters.
