Keywords: Cottage
Teach MacEil (Mc Hales house) so named after the family that lived there for the last three centuries is a wonderfully restored, 18th-Century, thatched cottage set on a working farm only a stone's throw from Castlebar Town and Castlebar's very own, 18-hole golf course. Drift back in time to bygone days with its open fireplace, flagged floors, latched locked doors, and Cailleach (a traditional, curtained-off bed in the main living area). With great sensitivity, the owners have managed to blend old with new and provide a holiday haven with the modern comforts you would expect. In addition, there is also a snooker/pool room.
Situated one mile from Castlebar Town which has an excellent array of pubs and restaurants, some with traditional Irish music. Castlebar is host to both a blues and walking festival in early June and July. There is also wonderful opportunities for freshwater angling.

A Perfect Irish Experience

Michael and Breda are wonderful hosts who do all they can to make you feel welcome in their cottage while remaining totally unobtrusive. The cottage, while next to their home, is situated so as to be very private. This cottage is Michael's home place and his pride in it is evident. You will feel as though you stepped back in time when you enter through the delightful red dutch door. We have been here many times over the past 10 years and it never ceases to charm us. Turf fires, stone floors, a delightful "granny" bed in the living room, a game room with pool table.... I can't emphasize enough how warm and inviting it is. We love it and love Michael and his lovely family. If I owned a cottage in Ireland, this would be the one I'd choose!
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers.
