Come enjoy your family vacation at "Island House" for a true get-a-way that you will never forget! Be Abducted by our Ambience~~~
Our cedar-shingled, custom-built home is located on Harkers Island, gateway to Cape Lookout, less than ten minutes by boat to 55 miles of pristine beaches, all protected by the National Seashore. Tranquility describes Island House' waterfront setting where our wraparound porch, Adirondack chairs, rockers, and hammock set the stage for dolphins passing, herons gliding, and, of course, the sky's palette of colors as the sun sets. Island House is especially unique in that it enjoys views to the west, over the water, capturing sunsets you will never forget!
Our home is as comfortable inside as it is outside. Each room is furnished with an eclectic mix of antiques and simple furnishings collected the world over... set among an array of beach color hues, hardwood floors, and handmade rugs.
Four comfortable bedrooms accommodate ten guests (three rooms are with queen-size beds; one room with one queen and four twins - perfect for all the children and an extra room/nursery off Master Bedroom, complete with Portable Crib and Rocker for the little one! Consider Island House your home-away-from-home as we provide you with linens, bath and kitchen towels... just bring your favorite beach towels and beach chairs!
Our kitchen with its granite counters, cook's pantry, professional appliances, all open to the porch and great room, makes for great entertaining and will delight your favorite chefs! Island House provides the basic staples and necessities, kindly replace as needed (coffee, tea, sugar, spices, flour, plastic cups/plates, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, and garbage bags).
Of course, should you decide to leave the porch (some never do!), Island House has a lovely yard with tetherball and sturdy swings for young and old! A short walk brings you to the pool and your private boat slip, accommodating boats up to 25 feet.
Out in front of Island House, the marsh invites you to dig your own clams and scallops, maybe even catch a crab or two! Harkers Island can provide all the basic necessities with two grocers, butcher, seafood shop, general stores, restaurants, etc. About 20 minutes by car is Historic Beaufort, just further along Atlantic Beach and Morehead City.
Harkers Island is a small island, connected to the Mainland by a swing bridge which opens to let the occasional Shrimp Boat pass. Located about 20 minutes "downeast" of Beaufort, life on the island is simple... the way it used to be... where you escape the traffic and congestion of other areas. The locals are warm, welcoming, and reflect the niceties of times gone by.
A short walk from Island House, brings you to a sandy beach, great for the children, crabbing, and casting a line. Fishing abounds off the Island and our friends at the Local Yokel Ferry will be happy to bring you out to Cape Lookout to enjoy the beaches, explore the lighthouse, see the wild ponies! We also can arrange private fly or reel fishing excursions, just ask.
Our delightful house managers, respond quickly to our guests requests. Their genuine "Southern Hospitality" will help acquaint you with Island House and the local area as well, the perfect compliment to your perfect vacation.
