This is without a doubt the most spectacular lodging available in all of Durango or the surrounding area. From the cool rushing sounds of the Animas River to the bike and walking path right outside your door, nothing even comes close for convenience, ambience, and overall comfort. No expense has been spared in making this exactly the mountain retreat one would want for a stellar vacation spot. This is right in the middle of everything that Durango has to offer and is famous for. The amenities were first rate and the entire living area was spotless. This is worth far more than what we paid and we will be sure to tell all of our friends and return often.

Riversedge is everything one could hope for. The rooms are artfully decorated, the furniture is new and very comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped. Best of all its location, next to a park and on the Animas River, affords magnificent views of the river and the passing Durango and Silverton railway. In our opinion a 5 star accommodation!

We have just spent a week at Riversedge, and we certainly plan on going back some day. Very comfortable furnishings. The view from the master bedroom was exceptionally pleasant. The location on the second floor has the additional benefit of watching the activity on the river trail bridge and the folks tubing, rafting, etc. down the Animas. Then -- like clockwork -- were the three AM trains on the way to Silverton and then the same ones coming back in the PM. The deck was the perfect place for an adult beverage as the sun went down. The location is within easy walking distance of all the places on Main St. or you can catch a free trolley. Never had any trouble finding a parking space downtown. Try Ken and Sue's Restaurant. At Mesa Verde visit The Spruce House. The trail to the petroglyphs was more than strenuous for us. Take a hiking stick. Instead of joining a 60 person tour group to see the "cliff palace" consider the view from across the canyon.

My wife and I stayed at Riversedge the first week of June, 2010. It could not have been better. The owner was very accommodating, and the doctor downstairs was exceedingly helpful. I can see where misbehaving children might make themselves unwelcome, but our experience was outstanding.

This is a simply superb rental property. Tasteful furnishings, well=equipped, killer location on the Animas River -- all just minutes by foot from downtown Durango. The owner was immediately on one small problem -- establishing internet access - and made sure it was resolved quickly, One other fun bonus was that the small-gauge steam locomotive train to/from Silverton rumbles past morning and late afternoon, crossing the river not far from the apartment. This place is among the best and most enjoyable.rentals we've experienced.

If I start to gush about this property, please forgive me. It is the most gorgeous place my husband and I have ever rented. I am so sorry for the people that wrote that they had a problem with the doctor below - but I think the owners have taken all precautions to allow the doctor and the residents live in harmony with each other. My husband and I were fortunate enough to find this property weeks before our vacation and it went far beyond our expectations. My sister and brother-in-law joined us. The pictures provided do not do it justice. It is close to town; there is an awesome breakfast place in less than a 5 minute walk. You will be not next to, but on the river, you cannot find a more charming place in Durango. I know this from speaking to the residents - there is no better location in the entire town. It takes less than 30 minutes to get to the pristine ski resort - which we visited three days in a row. The road to the resort is a straight line and well maintained. At mile 36 there is a hot spring rock that is worth a stop. There are so many great shops and restaurants in town that it is better to stay in town and drive to the skiing.. than stay on the mountain and drive to town. From the proprietors, we were given permission to include my 6 month old nephew. We were there during the holiday but even when the doctor was in - we couldn't hear him and I never even saw him. We checked in on December 31st. Minutes after the New Year we were greeted by the Durango-Silverton Train - it was a truly perfect moment for our arrival. The proprietors have thought of every detail. I have rented condos in Hawaii, Mexico, Spain, Tahoe and Florida. None have thought of the details that they did. (two decks, plenty of windows, lots of living space, double shower with extra jets, gorgeous tile in the bathroom, really comfy beds, dishwasher, oven, garbage disposal, plush towels, flat screen t.v., cable, internet, private parking, views, access to everything Durango has to offer.) I have to say, I am a little nervous in writing this review - selfishly I would like to keep this diamond to myself - for fear of it being so popular I will never get another reservation.

Best location in the area! We have been going to Durango for 30 years and River's Edge exceeded our expectations. We felt as if we were out in the wilderness, yet we were a few blocks from downtown. The river was at our backdoor and we enjoyed lounging on the decks watching the river, train, deer and having privacy at the same time. We are cyclists and liked the bike path being right outside our door. Condo itself is new and beautifully decorated. We hope to return next year. Peggy Tilghman Albuquerque, NM

My family (3 kids) and I spent one hellish half week here last month. Everything is as Chas describes regarding the wonderful setting, rental features, etc. However, his description leaves out one very important detail that makes all the difference, at least it did for my family. This unit is situated above a dental (endodontist) office and you need to mind yourself and your kids. He eventually did tell us vie e-mail about our special neighbor the day before we were to arrive and we had already been charged for the whole stay. However, he did not tell us (perhaps he didn't know at the time) that the dentist is VERY irritated about sharing his building w/ you and has no problem sharing that fact w/ you in a very rude manner. Apparently, he has very sensitive equipment hanging from the rooftop that jostles easily. Seriously, any (and I mean any - we were enjoying outdoors most of the time) movement on your part sets him off. He verbally abused my wife (she was so emotionally upset that she could not come around to enjoying herself at all during her stay) after two days stay even though we took care to shush the kids about every 5 minutes (during business hours). Then, if you do not respond in a satisfactory way to his chastisement and/or you call him to ask for an apology for the tongue lashing, he will not hesitate to call the police and demand that you be cited for disturbing the peace. He was creepy/scary enough to us that we gave up the last 3 days of our stay for safety reasons (I found out from the renovator that he has access to an interior door). FYI, we did ask Chas for a partial refund (based only upon on the service that we did not receive) which he refused because of what he termed damage (and I would call normal wear and tear) to the property e.g. tough stain on stove top, small paint chip on the wall, smudges on the lamps, and small scratches to some of the furniture. Overall, we thought he was a very nice man but quite unfair and unreasonable in this respect. So, if you're looking for a place to take the kids to let them be kids, I very strongly suggest that you look elsewhere!

Owner response: September 10, 2009 My wife and I have just received notice of this review and are pretty devastated. We were not present when these difficulties took place and cannot speak to what may have happened. We do know the dentist has an entirely different story. We must also charge for (or deny refunds) in cases where we feel damage to our vacation suite goes beyond normal wear and tear. Jennifer and I are new at this business. The Riversedge features hard wood floors with area rugs. We did not realize that a child jumping or running in our vacation suite would interfere with the dentist's equipment downstairs. Children will be children and we certainly do not fault them for that! We have therefore modified our ad listing to suggest the Riversedge is most suitable for adults and well mannered children over the age of 12. After guests book, we now send a rental confirmation and agreement to them, informing them that their consideration of the lower level occupants is appreciated. Prior to remodel, I used this suite as an office for myself and several others. We conducted normal business activities with people coming and going. I never had a complaint from the dentist during all these years. (Of course, younger children rarely came to our office). We have had guests compliment us recently on the setting, tranquility and comfort at the Riversedge and hope some of them may consider writing reviews. Jennifer and I have labored hard to attend to every detail so that your stay may be memorable, exciting and luxurious. With simple courtesies and awareness that there are lower level occupants during business hours at the Riversedge, Jennifer and I believe you can have a delightful experience.

                      Owner info

                      Year Purchased: 1995

About the owner: The City of Durango allowed us to build the Riversedge only after careful review and consideration....it is right on the Animas River and adjacent one of the city's nicest parks. I was fortunate to operate my law office here until retiring in 2009 and remodeling the 1000 sf space as an 'upper end', luxurious vacation home. My wife and I are new at this but attempted to address every detail. The location is ideal, in our view, because of the proximity to downtown Durango yet the quiet setting amidst the large cottonwood trees at the park next door. We have thoroughly enjoyed making the acquaintance of a number of our guests from all over the country (and world!) since opening in 2009. Thanks for considering us! We hope to extend some 'Durango hospitality' to you during your stay in this, our favorite part of Colorado!

                      Why the Owner Chose Riversedge:
Simply put, the most luxurious vacation home we know of in town -- and, RIGHT on a very private section of river.

The Unique Benefits at this Townhome:
Central location so you can easily access Durango galleries, shopping and restaurants....yet, very private with your own convenient, off-street parking.
