Why the Owner Chose Arkdale

I have been coming to this lake for 30 years. This area is truly unique in Wisconsin. It is rural enough to feel like you are really getting away but is close the top notch fun. While staying here you can adventure to the crazy WI Dells for a day and still enjoy a quite barbeque that night.

The Unique Benefits of this House

The lake has some great wildlife in the area. There are several eagle nesting spots and great fishing. In addition there are several state parks in the area for hiking and bike riding. The property is designed so that you don't have to pack your car too full of gear. We have all the coolers, chairs, life jackets and toys you need to have fun on the lake. Most people like that they don't have to bring everything but the kitchen sink. The house is very well equipped.

Great Time!

Stayed in the home mid July. Awesome time, great weather. Lake was nice and boat lift was a plus so I could keep my speedboat on the water all week. Had a group of 8 and the house was perfect. Lots to do and the air conditioning was nice as the weather was in the 90s all week! Would recommend the pontoon rental. We would definitely consider renting this home again.

A Great Weekend

Guest: Adam and Tammy (Wausau)
Date of Stay: 06/25/10 Review Submitted: 04/28/11

We stayed at this house last summer for a weekend. This house was clean and had all the amenities of home. We have two young boys and they were busy all weekend. We fished every morning and caught fish with almost every cast. The lake was clean and the kids enjoyed swimming. There is a large yard that allowed the kids plenty of room to play. We spent the night outside around the camp fire. We had a great weekend! We are hoping to spend another weekend there this summer. The owners were very nice and helpful with providing ideas of activities to do in the area. Thanks for a great weekend. The Haugens

Perfect place to stay for a summer vacation with kids

Date of Stay: 07/04/10 Review Submitted: 04/27/11

We stayed at this beautiful house last July and thought it was excellent! It exceeded our expectations. The house was very, very clean and had more than enough room for the kids to sleep and play.(could have held another family easily) All of the amenities you would have at home were there. The yard was very big with a huge fire pit for night time bon fires and roasting marshmallows. Even has two hammocks- one for mommy to relax and read a book in. The lake is just down the steps, and is beautiful, clean and not very crowded so it was perfect for tubbing with the kids.(we have three 9 and under) The pontoon boat was so fun and we are really glad we rented it so we could enjoy the whole lake with kids.(I would recommend doing this) We are planning our trip again this summer and will definitely be staying here again. The owners were more then helpful and accommodating to our family! Loved it! Oh and fishing was unbelievable, just off the pier my kids caught so many fish my husband couldn't keep up with getting them off the hook. So much fun for us all can't wait to go again this July.

Fun, Relaxing Lakehouse

Guest: princess mom (Madison, WI)
Date of Stay: 09/03/10 Review Submitted: 04/26/11

Our family spent Labor Day weekend at this lake house which is about 45 minutes north of Wisconsin Dells. We had a much needed weekend of relaxation and family time on this beautiful lake (Roche-A-Cri). We took the pontoon boat out daily and anchored for hours while the kids swam around, played, and fished. The area has a "North Woods" feel to it with plush green trees surrounding the lake...absolutely breathtaking. We also took the pontoon boat out each evening at sunset for a slow "sunset cruise"- the kids had fun spotting turtles that like to hang out on the branches near the water. The lake is big enough for water skiers, jet-skiers, and inner tubers, but we found that it is not to big for the family to bike around (or at least part way around). Coming from a city, it was nice to enjoy biking in the wilderness. The house itself was very inviting and felt like a home away from home. The kitchen had everything we needed to make home cooked meals (we also grilled out a couple of nights). There is a deck off the kitchen with a great view of the lake (Good place to have your morning coffee!) There was plenty of room in the living areas for the kids to play or to have some "down time" after being outside all day, although they will tell you their favorite part was the bunk beds. Another great part of our weekend was having bonfires each night (and yes....of course S'mores). The fire pit is in the backyard and overlooks the lake- what a great way to spend the evening! We met the neighbors while having one of our bonfires and it turns out their grand kids who were visiting are roughly our kids age so they had some instant playmates and we got to learn a lot about the lake from them. It sounds like there are a lot of families around and quite a few people who have been coming up there for many years- I can see why! The only thing I might do differently is add an extra day on and plan to take the kids down to the "Dells" for a day trip since it is less than an hour away. I will definitely plan on bringing my family back here again.

Great Summer Fun

Guest: Knute (Minneapolis)
Date of Stay: 06/20/10 Review Submitted: 04/26/11

We've spent time here the past two summers and are looking forward to returning again soon. The location is excellent! Great wooded lot overlooking the lake. Watch the sunset as you grill in the backyard. Start the campfire, play some volleyball, or lounge in a hammock at this home in the woods. The house is big and clean. Great amenities too; dishwasher, laundry, and a boat if you need it. Thanks again for your hospitality and we'll see ya again next summer. Knute

Not what it is advertised as

Guest: Jim (Green Bay, WI)
Date of Stay: 07/24/10 Review Submitted: 12/27/10

Do not rent this if you have kids that want to swim, have a sea-doo type boat or want to get your deposit back. This lake has so many weeds our kids could not swim and we could not use our sea-doo jet boat because the weeds kept plugging up the intakes. The owners advertise a nice swimming area, don't believe them. Fishing was also very difficult because of the weeds. Most of the morning was spent raking the weeds out of the dock area. If you are like most people and like to shoot off fireworks on your summer vacation, don't rent this place either. The neighbors apparently go to bed before 10PM and complain if you shoot fireworks in the early evening. The owners can shoot fireworks but apparently they hold it against the renters. If you still want to rent this place and just sit inside, it is air conditioned, away from the mosquitoes and weeds, make sure an inventory is done before you move in. This obviously wasn't done before we did and we were accused of stealing grandmas special forks and the owners kept our security deposit. Need I say more.

Owner response:This renter shot fireworks off our dock next to our fully gased pontoon boat. We have never nor would we ever shoot fireworks off our dock. We participate in an annual July 4th show shot from the road by the dam..not from our house. It resulted in a large burn mark to our dock and holes in the carpet on the boat from the sparks. It was completely irresponsible and could have been disasterous & deadly if the dock & boat caught fire. Neighbors complained because they were also concerned about the safety of their boat & lift cover. In terms of the weeds, there are cutters on the water. We do get floaters in our cove area which need to be raked at times. Due to a change in the way they were cut and picked up last summer, there were a few weeks that they were less manageable than normal. If the renter had called us to say he was having trouble with his boat, we could have possibly worked out something with ours but he didn't. My husband's family have owned a home on the lake for 30 years. It is a wonderful & fun family lake, which is why we chose to have a home there as well. .
