Location: Pass Christian, Mississippi, USA (About One Mile from Harbor and Downtown.)
Accommodations: House, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath (Sleeps 2-4)
Keywords: Beach House, Log Cabin
Our cabin was on tour with the Pass Christian Historical society May 1, 2011. Come stay in a historic site.
The only remaining part of the estate of Governor Parker who, in 1915, hosted a visit here by Teddy Roosevelt. The log cabin lies in over 2 acres of garden and is set back from the more than 190 feet of beach front to allow for privacy and tranquility. The cabin was one of the very few structures to survive Katrina, though it was halved in size by the storm. With the beach at its feet, it is also only a short distance further to the picturesque port and to the center of Pass Christian which is being rebuilt. It is then a short drive along the coast into the hustle and bustle of Gulfport and its casinos.
The cabin is totally renovated with luxury fittings in the bathroom and an ingenious kitchen area. There are just 2 rooms, as well as the bathroom, the bedroom with King’s size bed, and 42” plasma screen, with cable TV and wireless internet. The main room, which serves as sitting room, dining room and kitchen has a dining table seating 6 and a queen size sofa bed. Both rooms open onto a large screen porch (the former great room) ideal for enjoying relaxing drinks, and on cooler nights sitting in front of the wood-burning fireplace (easily lit by gas) or generally sitting and admiring the extensive garden, under the ceiling fan with a wonderful view over the gulf. There is a fenced pool in the garden, a short walk from the cabin. The property is fenced.

Owner Description

New Orleans native, spent summers in the "Pass" growing up.
Why the Owner Chose Pass Christian
My grandparents bought this property in the early 1900's.. My grandfather had the cabin build in the 1920's. Teddy Roosevelt visited a part of the property in about 1915, that part was added in 1969 to the original plot, it is mentioned in Roosevelt's diaries.
The Unique Benefits of this House
Just sitting in the pool on a hot evening talking and looking at the stars. Some mornings in the spring or fall there is very heavy fog on the beach, beautiful for photographing. The sunrises and sunsets especially in the winter months can be fantastic, when the sun rises and sets over the water. Walking on the beach, especially in the winter months, when you have the beach to yourself and can commune with the sea birds. Birding in the garden especially during the fall and spring migration. The birds are gathering in the fall to gain strength before they set off over the Gulf. One visitor commented in our guestbook at the house on how excited they were to see so many Bluebirds in the garden. There are always birds, just many more during the migration. Come and add to your life list.

This was one of the best vacations of my life. My partner and I plus our 2 dogs spent 6 great days at this house. We spent all day, every day either in the pool or on the beach. One of our greatest finds was at the nearby Pass Christian Yacht Club where there are shrimpers selling HUGE shrimp for very low prices. We ate shrimp at least 2 meals a day, and sometimes we even had shrimp omelets for breakfast. The huge yard was great for our dogs, and gave us lots of privacy. I cannot imagine anyone not loving their stay at this gem. We will be back again in the summer of 2012.

The property exceeded my expectations. Small but perfect for a couple or small family. The house had everything you could want or need. Nice details in the construction. Kitchen fully equipped. Furniture comfortable. The screened area was very nice and since the weather was cool we used the outside fireplace. Location is perfect in regard to privacy but near the beach (and with a wonderful beach view)and close enough to area restaurants and stores. Perfect for pets with fully fenced and huge yard. Weather was too cool for the pool, but it appeared well maintained. Plan to return as soon as possible.
Owner response:Thank you so so much. The Pass is such a wonderful tranquil place. I am so happy you found the man that sells shrimp. They are fantastic. He sometimes has whole fish (meaning you have to clean them, but talk about fresh!) and wonderful Pass Christian oysters- they are the best and I am from New Orleans.

This was our second week long stay at the Teddy Roosevelt Cabin. We absolutely love it. We spent several hours by the fire on the lanai looking at the water and the stars. Our dog romped freely on the 2 acre lot. This is by far our dogs favorite vacation spot. The cabin was very comfortable with all the amenties. We shall return for a third trip next year.
Owner response:Come back soon. We have added some new comfy chairs inside and on the lanai. Thank you so so much for being a regular. Now the weather is wonderful and cool and the light is so beautiful it is the perfect time to be in the pass.

We spent a couple of days earlier this week. The house was very clean, the pool enjoyable, the amenities well appointed and the weather cooperative. Thank you for sharing your home with us. We hope Pass Christain continues to recover. Bev, Kris and David
Owner response:Thank you so much for your review. The fall and winter are my favorite times to be in the Pass. The birds are abundant, the beach beautiful and empty and the weather, more often than not, mild and welcoming. A wonderful time to sit on the lanai in front of the fire and enjoy the long shadows and beautiful light in the afternoon. We hope you come back soon.

We were so looking forward to staying at this home and once we got there...it was so disappointing. Upon driving up, we realized the beach was 190 yards away..but the discription fails to mention it is 190 yards away across a 4 lane highway...the 2 acres of garden discribed is accually 2 acres of over grown grass that needed to be mowed before we got there and was never mowed while we were there..to walk to the pool and stay at the pool for any length of time...you needed to cover yourself in water proof off...and the light to the pool was not working...so not only could you not get to the beach...you could not sit at the pool after dark because there was no light...I called the owner and she stated had been out several years...all in all the discription of the home is not at all what we got...It was very disappointing. And also one thing I almost forgot...I know the place allows dogs..but it would have been really nice if the cleaning crew would have swept the dog hair up before we got there..dog hair in the traps on drains...on furniture..on rugs...Paige Nelson
Owner response:I am very sorry you were disappointed. We understand two acres is a large piece of property and it is mown every two weeks. There was a lot of rain this late July so the grass may have grown more than normal. The road extends along the front of all the houses with beach frontage from Pass Christian to Biloxi. We are lucky to have a large property as this gives us an extra buffer from the highway. All of us along the Gulf Coast suffer at some time of the year from mosquitoes, however the house has an enormous screened area, which before Katrina was the living room of the house. When we restored the pool we did not restore the light, our oversight. I am not sure if it can be done in retrospect but we will look into it. Lights do attract bugs. I did state that it had been not working since Katrina. The pool was completely refurbished with all new equipment, but not the light. I am very sorry about the dog hair. Yours is the first complaint. I have brought this up with the cleaning crew. I hope you will give us another try.

Stayed in late September. A wonderful, quiet getaway for two. Lovely cottage, well appointed, quiet with a unique swimming pool. Unfortunately the area is still suffering from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina and much infrastructure has yet to be rebuilt. We had to journey quite far for places of interest and entertainment. On the whole though, a delightfully quaint and luxurious getaway for that second honeymoon.

We truly enjoyed our stay during the summer. The fenced yard is ideal for dogs and the beach across the street is within walking distance. Fabulous! The home is tastefully decorated with quality appliances. We felt so pampered. We look forward to our 2nd trip.

While the property is lovely and dog friendly, the local beach ordinances forbid dogs on the beach. We will not return for that reason.
Owner response:I am so sorry the City of Pass Christian does not allow dogs on the beach... Unfortunately we have no control over what the City does. We had the same experience with our dog.

We just got home from our 2cnd trip to Teddy's House. We still cannot believe how peaceful and tranquil it is. It is definitely a cozy home away from home. We are already planning our 3rd trip. Can't wait!
Owner response:Thank you so much and thank you for the lovely Guest Book you left at the house- it is so much fun to see how much everyone has enjoyed the place.
