My wife and her family have been visiting Ogunquit for over 30 years and we could not have found a better place to stay than the Island House. Our week at the house was fabulous! The ocean views from every room in the house, including the very large wrap around porch, are spectacular. Everyone in our group (of seven) loved the house and its location, and it was great for both the adults and kids. The adults in our group spent many afternoons before dinner having a glass of wine on the porch or on the lawn overlooking Perkins Cove. The kids loved the bunk beds in their bedroom and being able to have the internet access throughout the house. Listening to the early morning sounds of lobster boats leaving the Cove or being able to watch the sunrise from our bedroom was fabulous. Shops and restaurants are right around the corner, but seem far away once you drive past the gate up to the house. We loved our time at the Island House and will be back in the future.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

The Island House is absolutely amazing. It's in a gated community in Perkins Cove and has water views from every single room (except the 1/2 bath!!). The wrap around porch is amazing and two of the upstairs bedrooms have private balconies as well. The master bedroom is like it's own private retreat. The shower has a rain shower along with 6, yes 6, wall jets. The shower also has a steam option so everyone was fighting to use it! The house is walking distance to everything and comes with everything you could possibly need to have the perfect getaway. Ralph, the owner, greeted us and gave us a personal tour. He was such a wonderful host and made us feel so special to be in the house. Even though it wasn't quite in season yet, Ralph even made sure that the hot tub was ready for us when we got there. The hot tub also overlooks the ocean so you can watch the boats go by as you soak. The house has great big common areas for everyone to gather yet has enough bedrooms and bathrooms to give you the privacy you need. We rented the Island House for my husband's birthday and invited his friends along. It couldn't have been more perfect. I highly recommend and have a strong feeling we will be back!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My Wife and I were lucky enough to host our wedding at the Island House on September 15, 2012. What a beautiful setting and location for our special day. The house far exceeded my expectations and I would highly recommend it to any looking for a great house with magnificent views. During the planning process we found it very difficult to find a location to rent that would allow us to host our wedding and we soon became very discouraged. We continued our search and were so fortunate to come across the Island House. The owner is so accommodating and was thrilled that we wanted to get married there because his daughter was also married there. The house was built to entertain. It not only accommodated our wedding guests but our families who stayed with us. For anyone thinking they want to have a wedding on the water with beautiful views, and a great house this place is perfect! To anyone considering a place like this for your special day the owner has my contact information and I am happy to share any information I can. Logistics, Catering, Rentals Parking etc…. We absolutely loved our stay at the Island House! It was the perfect place to hold our family reunion, and couldn't have asked for a more beautiful place to call home for the week. It started out with a very warm and gracious welcome by the owner, Ralph, who gave us a personalized tour of the home and took the time to share with us his favorite activities and restaurants in the area. The location of the home is ideal, and we enjoyed spending early mornings and evenings watching the boats come in and out of the cove (including President Bush's boat), and going to sleep with the windows open and the sound of the waves crashing outside. Although the home is close to a busy marina and shopping area, as soon as you walk past the gate into the neighborhood, it is very quiet and peaceful. One of the things we quickly learned was that Ogunquit is a walking town, so apart from a trip to the store the first day, we left our car in the driveway and walked everywhere into town and along the Marginal Way to the beach. Some of the highlights were: seeing South Pacific at the Ogunquit Playhouse (I would highly recommend going to see a show there), buying lobsters from Goat in Perkins Cove and cooking a lobster dinner at the house, sampling the goodies at Bread and Roses bakery in town, breakfast at Amore Cafe, going to the beach, and taking the Finest Kind lobstering cruise. Most of all, we enjoyed spending time in the spacious, comfortable home with family, and would love to return to the house again next summer.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, families with young children.

I want my review of this house to be as special as the house itself, however I don't know if I can achieve that level of greatness. I would like the readers of this to know that our experience here brought out the best of our family. The house in itself is amazing, but the feeling that the house inspires is not easy to describe. You can read about all of the amenities in the other reviews and they are correct..you will not be disappointed in any way. I guess more important to us was how welcome we felt from the moment we walked into the house and Ralph greeted us so warmly. It was as if we were coming to visit an old friend! Every day had it's special moments. The kids enjoyed the easy access to the water for paddle boarding. We biked, sailed, cruised, walked and probably more than anything enjoyed spending time on the beautiful porch. The sun rise can be seen from the front porch. Special memories were made with the grandchildren that I awoke to watch it with me. My husband and I enjoyed coffee and quiet conversation at this time of the day. The baby of the family is 2 years old. He would announce to the rest of us of the bridge going up or down at the ring of the bell. My elderly mother loved waving to the boats as they passed by. Imagine our surprise when one of the boats happened to be carrying former President George Bush going home after lunch at Barnacle Billy's! You were right Ralph..you don't have to be a Republican to be excited about that sighting! I could go on and on but to sum it up I would just like to say that we are an ordinary family that had an extraodinary time at this house. Ralph, thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with us. We will never forget our (first) trip there. I hope you follow through on the island house facebook page. I would love to post pictures and I'm sure others would, too!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 5/5

Wow what a property and what a setting. We have been visitors of Ogunquit for many years but we have never experienced it the way we did while we were at The Island House. We had the end of Perkins cove to ourselves as the protected residence sits on a hill overlooking the entry to the cove on one side, the Atlantic on the other and Perkins cove on the third side. We ate most of our meals in the local resturants and hardly used our cars expect for grocery shopping. We walked the Marginal Way everyday at different times during the day and evening and we were delighted with the coffee shop 60 yards from our front door. When making our selection we were concerned about space and number of people in our party and I am happy to say for the entire time we were there no one thought they were crowded in anyway. The covered wrap around deck give us plenty of outiside time to sit and watch the lobster and party boats or read or do nothing, the stores and galleries in the cove gave us plenty of window shopping opportunity and our one mile walk to town via the marginal way gave us excercise and the opportunity to experience the magic that occurs when ocean and the coast come together. It was a good reminder for us the beauty there is in nature. The grounds around the house we filled with colorful flowers and plants and out two grandchildren enjoyed playing in the grass and waving to the lobstermen. This vacation will be rembered forever by our family and it will be very hard for me to find a way to beat it the next time we travel together. The views, the house, the ammenities and the owner made this vacation specialRecommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

What a house! What a location! We had ten adults on our trip. The views of the harbor and the ocean were outstanding. The garden was beautiful. This is a classic New England house with modern ammenities. The food within walking distance is outstanding. We saw a former President arrive by boat and dine on a restaurant terrance for lunch. Watching lobster and other fishing boats going out and coming in from the wrap around porch was a treat. You will be a hero of the group if you book this house.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

What an awesome home we just spent our mini vacation in! You couldn't ask for a more relaxed, comfortable home, with more than the comforts of home even! The location was perfect for us who didn't want to go too far, close to the local restaurants, shops, beach, the marginal way and the waterfront. We had a beautiful back yard on the water and the 6 of us spent as much time amidst those beautiful gardens watching the boats go in and out! Every bedroom was perfect with all the amenities you could want. The only thing we didn't like about it was "leaving".. Sure wish we could call it our own! Thanks Ralph, it was awesome!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway.

My wife, Christine, and I wanted to give our family… five children and their various significant others and two grandchildren… a weekend getaway in March, 2010. Christine found the “Home Away” website and, after finding several possibilities, located “The Island House” on Perkin’s Cove in Ogunquit, Maine. Christine’s a Jersey shore girl and, after seeing pictures of Ralph’s house and ocean views, she called him for details. She found Ralph very friendly and accommodating, and she made plans for our family to spend three days there in March. Chris and I arrived on Friday around noon and instantly realized that we had made a good decision. The house was huge, clean, open, and perfect for our getaway. Almost every window provided a great view of the ocean, harbor, or Perkins Cove. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed for cooking breakfasts and dinners... no need to bring any utensils from home. The many bedrooms and bathrooms provided ample sleeping room. Radiant heating in the floors made the house warm and cozy. A hot tub on the deck was used every day. Family members arrived at the “House” in stages… some traveling from Boston, some from Burlington, Vermont, others from New Hampshire, and one from New York City. We spent three great days together cooking, playing cards, shopping, walking the Marginal Way, and just hanging out. Our “getaway” with our family in Ralph’s Island House couldn’t have been better. Being homeowners ourselves, Christine and I appreciate the trust Ralph showed in allowing us to use his home. We hope to visit the Island House again next year.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We have traveled extensivelyl, every state and about 15 countries and agreed that this was the best vacation we have ever had. After returning home we thought it had all been a dream it was such a wonderful experience living in the Island House for a week. Next year we are trying for two weeks. The entire property was in every way better than described, from the lobster fresh from the ocean to the sea breeze wafting through the beautifully decorated, spacious rooms and the friendly, helpful townspeople " aaah" if only words could describe it.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
