Why the Owner Chose Stinson Beach

We found it more convienent than a four hour drive to Lake Tahoe and although Stinson Beach is only 35 minutes from San Francsco it still feels very secluded and far from the the noise and traffic of the city.

The Unique Benefits at this House

We love to walk on the beach, swim in the man-made lagoon off our backdeck, surf, play tennis, read, hike.

B
Audubon Canyon Ranch

Great hike and opportunity to see nesting Snowy Egrets with chicks.

C
Mountain Theater

This is a beautiful outdoor theater. The seats are tired rock slabs. Musicals are held here every weekend in June, bring a picnic.

D
Laurel Dell Trail to Catract Gulch

One of my favorite hikes and quite level until you reach Cataract Gulch which has a fantastic waterfall in the winter and spring. Definately a great picnic/hike option.

Owner's Map of Stinson Beach

Richard and Betty Janson originally purchased this property as an empty lot and would take their family out to swim and picnic on weekends. In 1973, Richard designed his dream home and the building was completed in 1974.

nature lover's paradise

We return to this place year after year for so many reasons. Relaxation in such an amazing setting is part of it, but we also love there the many opportunities for outdoor activities. The harbor seals, incredible bird activity, the flora and fauna of the area are all right there--right out the window but best experienced in kayaking the natural lagoon. Swimming is great, just out the door in the man-made lagoon, which is also great for paddle boarding, canoeing, kayaking, etc. It feels like being on a lake, but with salt water! ) The ocean front is close by and the roar of the waves can be heard in the distance while falling asleep. We also bike and hike, and enjoy biking to Bolinas for organic vegetables and fruit, galleries, etc. and also enjoy the Point Reyes Bird Observatory (a magnificent road bike ride for those that enjoy hilly terrain) and hiking to Bass Lake. The architecture is unique, circular, bright and light with lots of wood for a cozy cottagie feeling. The place is always clean and well maintained. Can't wait to go back next year!

We just got back from a week stay at this awesome house. The house and it's views are better than pictures that the owner posted. There were about 100 sea lions in the Bolinas lagoon that we could see everyday from the living room. There's even a telescope to get a close look. The sunsets over the mountains were wonderful to watch. We enjoyed the front yard for dining and playing board games, and the back deck for sunbathing when it was too windy at the beach. Plus, you're just minutes from amazing hiking trails. The Seadrift lagoon is great for swimming. And the house is just a few minute walk to the most private end of Stinson Beach. Great place!!

Loved It!

Our group of 5 spent 3 wonderful nights at this beach house. We were very pleased with this rental. It is one of the few houses in the Seadrift Community that enjoys both a view of the man-made Seadrift Lagoon as well as the natural Bolinas Lagoon. We spent a lot of time watching birds and seals. The views were amazing! The house was comfortable and clean. We enjoyed paddling the canoe and kayak in the lagoon. The owner was very easy to work with. We definitely hope to rent this house again.

Hiking Paradise

Date of Stay: 05/06/11 Review Submitted: 05/25/11

I have been renting this house for many years and everyone loves it! We are a hiking bunch that also loves wildlife so it is perfect. It is center to many areas of great hiking and there is a great variety of wildlife right out the front window. There is plenty of room for a group of adults to spread out and have "space", or to all gather together for chating. It is just an enchanting place to stay and very FUN!

Owner response:Thanks Laurie, it would not be Spring without your group of hikers and we look forward to hosting your group next year.

My family (including 10, 8 and 6 yr old children) had a wonderful week at this beautiful home. The feeling of the house is one of openess to the outdoors. With a lagoon off the back deck (great for kayaking and swimming literally out your back door) and with a beautiful lagoon view out the huge picture window in the front of the house, one feels like you are in nature even when inside. Close to hiking trails, the beach, and the quaint town of Stinson, this is an ideal place to vacation. The house was VERY clean and VERY comfortable. The owner was great to work with and accessible leading up to our stay, and even through our time there. I could not recommend a home more highly and would stay here again should we vacation in Stinson in the future.

We had a great weekend in this house! We took the boats out in the lagoons and saw tons of egrets and cormorants as well as caspian terns, mergansers and even a loon. The harbor seals were out in full force too. When it was windy out on the beach, we hung out in the sandy front yard instead. The house was as promised. Recommended!

We were so glad we've chosed this accommodation for our stay near San Francisco. So close by car but so far away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Loved the beautiful area very much. Above all the view to the lagoon with so many birds and the sea lions (actually they are harbor seals). Had beautiful weather, sunny and warm. The house was very nice and provided everything we needed.

We've stayed at Stinson many times, always on the oceanfront, and enjoyed it everytime. But this experience, between the lagoons was magical and well beyond our expectations. The house is terrific - we love the architecture and art. Thank you so much. We're more fit then we've ever been - we hiked, swam, kyacked, ran, beach-combed and even had time to relax. Can't wait to return

We are back this year - only for a week this time. Our "kids" were out over the weekend. Hard to believe that our "baby" really was a baby when we first rented this wonderful home. Since we are "locals" we soak-up the joys watching the birds on the Bolinas lagoon, long beach walks, canoeing and kyacking on Seadrift Lagoon, bicycling into the timy town of Stinson Beach for ice cream cones.

The Carter Family had a wonderful, relaxing week. We took day trips to Pt. Reyes, Sonoma, Mill Valley, San Francisco and Bodega Bay. We enjoyed canoeing on both lagoons. OUr almost three year-old now calls this "Grandma's Stinson Beach House". We will all remember the tranquil days at 205 Dipsea a.k.a. Grandma's Stinson Beach House
