Location: Cape Charles, Virginia, USA (20 Min. North of Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel.)
Accommodations: House, 3 Bedrooms + Office, 1 Bath (Sleeps 6-8)
Quiet and serene describe your stay at our home in Oyster. With plenty of wildlife to watch, and hear at times, you will find yourself unwinding from whatever you need to escape from for a time. Many of our guests remark at how late they sleep day after day due to the quiet and peacefulness of the area.
The sunrises are wonderful should you decide to get up early and take a walk to the harbor around the corner, put your boat in at the ramp for some sunrise fishing, or take a quick trip over to Cape Charles for a round of golf at Bay Creek and the Arnold Palmer golf course.
Day trips are a very easy start from Oyster. An hour's ride to the north brings you to the entrance of Chincoteague Island, made famous by the escapes of the wild ponies in "Misty of Chincoteague" pony penning takes place in July every year, there is plenty of parking and lots to do there besides watching the "sea cowboys" round up the herd of wild horses. Further east will bring you to the Assateague National Seashore which is the only beach right on the Atlantic Ocean on the Eastern Shore. Jet skis are not allowed in the park, but nice waves and the beautiful beaches are worth the trip.
Virginia Beach is a 45 minute trip over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, a toll road which has a discounted return trip back to the shore. Be sure to keep your receipt! Stop at the restaurant/gift shop for the "all you can eat" flounder sandwich. Local souvenirs are for sale, there is an incredible view of the shipping lanes and a chance at watching a navy destroyer or aircraft carrier from Newport News glide through on the way to sea. The local paper, The Virginia Pilot, will give you a listing of all there is to do in Virginia Beach, shopping, beaches and the boardwalk, movies, water parks, etc.
The family friendly local beaches of Cape Charles are 10 minutes away by car and have very shallow warm water especially nice for children. Mason Avenue, the shopping district in Cape Charles has a nice family owned specialty bakery, a farmer's market on Saturdays, and a well equipped and knowledgeable bait and tackle store, Bailey's. You might want to sit on the picnic table and have a nice "fish talk" with the Brady's, local owners and Cape Charles residents.
Out on Rte#13 and south of town (10 minutes) you will find the town of Townsend where you can buy local fresh seafood at J.H. West's restaurant and seafood shop. They will prepare your seafood if you like or pack it up for you to take home and do it yourself. Chris's bait and tackle is a little further south and is a great place for all your hunting and fishing supplies, including licenses.
Groceries and other household products, supplies, etc. can be found at the local Food Lion store, and ABC liquor store is next door, but hours are limited. Dollar General is in the same shopping center and has some beach and swimming toys, but they go fast with Cherrystone Campground here as well.
Cherrystone Campground offers a day pass for a small fee to enjoy their swimming and recreation activities. Three swimming pools, a miniature golf course, paddle boats, kayaks, motor boats, general store, ice cream and snack bar, and assorted arts and crafts activities are all available daily. Stop by the office (located at the end of Cherrystone Road across Rte#13 from Suntrust Bank) and ask for a daily schedule. The park is kid friendly and hosts weekend activities like "pirate weekend" and "NASCAR weekend".

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2001
We are residents of the Eastern Shore and moved here about 8 years ago to get away from the cold, grey New England winters. My husband is a commercial fisherman and builds and repairs local homes. I am a full time elementary school teacher at the local school and run a long arm quilting business out of my home. We moved here to find a more peaceful lifestyle, but rarely take a day off for fishing or beaching. Maybe next year!
Why the Owner Chose Cape Charles
Location! We are right down the street from the harbor and keep our boat there. We love the quiet, the storms-incredible lighting storms! The people here are so friendly and warm.
The Unique Benefits of this House
The quiet! Lots of room for family to relax in our home and do nothing, or make local trips to enjoy activities and shopping. We love taking daytrips to Virginia Beach but can feel the relaxing wave of "coming home" as soon as we see Fisherman's Island when exiting the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel.
