Funky Hawaiian Home a Disappointment

With the exception of the lovely beach, we were disappointed with our stay at this property. The home is not well-maintained, the furniture is not as pictured, there were broken light fixtures, peeling paint, and missing window coverings. At best, I would describe the condition as funky -- not what you would expect for the price. The upstairs and downstairs are not connected from the inside. Be careful when snorkeling and swimming in front of the house as there is a strong current and undertow.

Anahola Beach Property #249484

This Anahola home is wonderful and just what we wanted- casual, homey, comfortable, cheerful, etc. We had a beautiful bird of paradise arrangement on the dining table greeting us when we arrived which I thought was a lovely touch. We met a friendly local resident on the beach who showed us the beautiful lagoon a few houses down as well as telling us some history of the area. We even had a 1&1/2 year old monk seal share our beach one day. I know, we were sharing his beach. I really think 'our' house had the best view, the best sea breeze, and the best beach front of any home on that bay - not to mention yellow is my favorite color. The bay is secluded and has very little traffic. We were in the water every day. When one of the sales ladies in Hanalei found out we were staying in Anahola, she said, "Nobody gets to stay in Anahola, it's so beautiful and all residential." The location is perfect also - between Lihu'e and Hanalei where most of our activities took place. The town of Kapa'a is delightful and 5 miles away. It has many excellent restaurants and shops as well as large chain and organic grocery stores. And, you can always find a farmers market nearby. Many outfitter shops there also. We were able to tour every part of the island with no hassle and saw and did a little bit of everything the island offers - Waimea Canyon (by car), Fern Grotto, Wailua kayak trip, the Kilauea Lighthouse and Wildlife Refuge, Limahuli Garden, Wailua and Opaeka'a Falls, etc. The kayak trip to the Secret Falls was the highlight – we would recommend Wailua Kayak Adventures (based in Kapa’a) and ask for Kathleen for your guide. In Kapa'a we ate at Sushi Bishido's and loved it; and Chutney was an excellent choice too. At the North end we tried the Mediterranean Gourmet and The Dolphin and would recommend them also. We cooked in the rest of the time. My family and I didn't want to leave. The photos on line reflect the property accurately, home and property are clean and well maintained, the rental managers were more than helpful, and I would highly recommend this property to everyone.
