Welcome to the description of Tutu's Cottage! If you are reading my page, you have already seen others and all the wonderful things that other owners have said about Hanalei. Just in case you have clicked on my first, here is a quick run down about Hanalei:

- quote from the travel book: "1000 PLACES TO SEE BEFORE YOU DIE" BY PATRICIA SCHULTZ "The
island's beauty peaks at the north shore, possibly the most beautiful spot in all of Hawaii."

- Hanalei Bay beach was ranked #1 on the 2009 list of top 10 beaches in the nation

- Hanalei Bay was rated one of the top 5 beaches in America by National Geographic Travelers

- Golf Digest named the Price Golf Course in Princeville (3 miles from Hanalei) as Hawaii's
#1 golf course

- spectacular volcanic mountains surround Hanalei and often times have 3000+ ft. long waterfalls
on them

- Hanalei Bay is the exact spot where Mitzi Gaynor washed him right out of her hair in the 1957
movie South Pacific, and also the fairy-tale home, where Puff the Magic Dragon frolicked
in the autumn mists (Peter,Paul and Mary Song)

- The best thing about Hanalei is that there are no hotels, no condos, and very few sidewalks
because it is so rural; looks like a cute little surfing town out of the 60's.

- The famous Napali Coast hiking trail is just 7 miles from Hanalei, recommended hike by the
Sierra Club

NOW ABOUT OUR CUTE, COZY, LITTLE COTTAGE:

The "downtown" area of Hanalei is about 2 blocks from the beach, and we are located about half way between, so you can walk to the beach in 5 minutes (the Pavilon), town is 5 minutes. If you know where the pier is, we are a 10 minute walk there. In town are several small family owned restaurants, a pizza place, burger place, all causal and quaint, a few shops, a grocery store and a a well stocked health food market (not cheap but you have to remember that you are at the "end of the world" out here in Hanalei.

We have a well equipped little kitchen in the house and a BBQ in the backyard. A fish market is within walking distance for those of you who love fresh fish, or just bring something home from one of the eateries and eat on one of the two lanais at the house. The back lanai is actually very special, has an unobstructed view of the Hanalei mountains and the 3000 ft. waterfalls that come down from the top if it has rained the night before. The yard is very private, as there are no neighbors behind us, only a tall-grass meadow, trees and an occasion horse tied up.

Our house is extremely clean, as I have the best cleaning lady on the island; we have hardwood floors, granite kitchen counter tops and bath vanity, new maple cabinets as the house had a major remodel in late 2007. There are usually Meyer's lemons all year round on the lemon tree in the front yard, so grab a few and make yourself some fresh squeezed lemonade, throw a little rum in it for fun! Like palm trees? Lots of palms in the front yard. Like waterfalls? The mountains, which are visible from the back lanai, often times have several on them, dropping spectacularly over 2000 ft.

Best looking house on the block and the best price, remember we don't charge extra for the dreaded cleaning fee.

From former guests:

"We just returned to Wisconsin this a.m. We just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed
out stay at your cottage. Hanalei is just beautiful and we were blessed to find such a
wonderful accommodation. It was difficult to leave your place for our last night in Poipu.
Thanks again for helping us with our travel plans. We hope to return again soon."
Randy and Susan Welk

"Ueli and I want to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay in hanalei and at Tutu's
Cottage in particular. The cottage is so welcoming and comfortable; it was exactly right
for our needs. I'm already thinking about the next trip back.... We wish you happy holidays
and hope to have the opportunity to deal with you again. We're already recommending the
cottage to our friends." Pam and Ueli Helmick

"Aloha Carolyn: We just want to tell you how happy we are to be back in Tutu's Cottage and
how wonderful we think the improvements are that you've made here! The new classy kitchen,
the front and wraparound lanai, even the foam mattress pad topper on the bed are all much
appreciated and help make us feel very comfortable. You've done a great job with this place
and it's beautiful! We're enjoying our stay at Tutu's and like the upgrades here. The place
was clean and well-prepared when we arrived on Saturday afternoon and we'll leave it the way
we found it." Neils and Pat Sundermeyer

"Greg and I had an amazing time in Kauai and loved every moment of our holiday there. Tutu's
Cottage was absolutely wonderful and was the perfect place to relax at the end of our fun
days exploring the island. Thank you for the experience of staying in your beautiful house.
You obviously put a great deal of time and effort into making it such a lovely, warm and
inviting space and we thought it was the prettiest house on the island. We certainly hope
to make it back to Kauai in the near future!" Cherie and Greg Jones

"I just wanted to let you know what a wonderful time we had at Tutu's Cottage. It was
absolutely magical- We just loved it and hope to return. Thank you for everything!"

Quaint Cottage - 5 Min to Hanalei Bay, No Extra Cleaning Fee

Year Purchased: 1995

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage

Our property actually IS in Hanalei, some properties on this site are not. So, you can walk everywhere from our cottage: beach in 4 minutes, into town for groceries or a little shopping, restaurants for breakfast/lunch/dinner, 10 minutes to Pine Trees Beach or to the Pier. If you don't want to drive very much, this is the ideal location.

Owner's Map of Hanalei

I first bought property in Hanalei in 1977, because it was so quaint and had that "small town" beach community feel. It's just like a little surfing town out of the 60's.

Perfect vacation in Hanalei

My husband and I stayed at Tutu's cottage for a wonderful week in October 2008. The weather was perfect, I went on beach runs every morning, my husband rented a surf board and surfed while I ran. The cottage was well appointed, very clean, nicely furnished. Its location is ideal, we could easily walk to the beach 3 blocks away and just as easily walk into town to go shopping, eat dinner, go to the local bar in the evening, and visit the coffee shop every morning. Carolyn was great to interact with and very helpful. We have booked another week this year and are so excited to be going back!

Aloha Carolyn Barnes! We are writing just to tell you how much we loved our recent stay at Tutu’s Cottage in Hanalei. We couldn't have picked a better place for our honeymoon! Thanks so much for making such a lovely and convenient house available for rent. We loved it so much that we would like to place an annual reservation for the same week so we can celebrate our anniversary each year at Tutu’s! Please let us know if it would be possible to block off that week for us each year, and let us know when you would like us to pay for the 2011 stay :) Our bags are already packed! Mahalo and Merry Christmas, Carlos & Deborah

My wife and 10 month old daughter and I had an amazing time here. We loved the close proximity to the lovely little town of Hanalei(3 mins walk) and to Hanalei bay(5 mins walk) as well as many things within a short drive including the famous Kalalau trail. The cottage itself is roomy, elegant, spotless and very well equipped. I would highly recommend this cottage, Ian
