Thank you so much for letting us stay at your beach house. The size of the house was perfect for our family. The house was clean and cozy. Our girls loved the bunk beds and watching TV in the loft and the location was perfect. We would love to come back!

Easy acces home on paved road in Duck with car port, hot tub and fenced yard. The yard was great for the dogs. The beach is nice, but farther than 300 feet, The home is well stocked with dishes and pots and pans. Hot tub cover is in need of replacement.

Had a very relaxing week! Easy walk to the beach. Having the bikes available was a big plus. Loved the loft -- I set up my books & laptop to do some research I had to get done -- very cozy. The kitchen is very big --- a couple people can work in there without bumping into each other. The backyard was great for our dog -- the fence is very secure. I highly recommend getting up early and going down to the beach to see the sunrise -- it's a great show!

My wife and I rented this place for a quiet retreat before our third child arrived (No kids on the vacation) and the place was perfect! It was an easy walk to the beach and extremely close to grocery shopping and easy access to the main land. I couldn't have asked for anything more!! Clean, accessible, and will certainly rent here again!

I have used VRBO all of the US and this was the most disappointingl! First, I had requested(and paid for) sheets/pillowcases for the bedrooms - there were none on the queen bed. The lamp in the queen room was broken, The livingroom was dusty and the furniture dirty. The diningroom table was wobbling apart;we had to use our own tools to tighten it for use. One of the dining chairs is falling apart. The dishwasher leaks and the door falls down landing on top of your feet-not pleasant! There were only 3 table knives in the kitchen which makes it difficult for Europeans who use both a fork and knife the entire time they are eating. The wine glasses were covered in dust, the pots & pans are scarce and the cookie sheets were burnt and dirty. On the deck were 3 broken Adirondack chairs and 1 broken table. If you want a place where people feel welcome and want to return, it is important to make an effort to have usable, inviting and CLEAN amenities! Yes, the rent is not unreasonable. However, there is always an expectation that certain items will be provided and not falling apart. I will nto recommend this property.

Owner response: We are so sad to hear that someone did not have a great vacation! We really wish they had contacted either us or our maintenance crew though at any time to help rectify the situation immediately as all of these numbers are clearly displayed throughout the house. This was a 3 day rental and they only requested sheets for 2 bedrooms not 3 so there must have been some discrepancy in that. We just replaced the dishwasher actually yesterday! This is the first we are hearing about the knife and chair situation. Have had so many wonderful people who love our home and have raved over it that I hope this is just a very disgruntled person. We have asked our housekeeping to review the complaint and we are addressing each and every issue! Thank you for the feedback...

We had a very relaxing time at this cozy house The hot tub was clean and nice proximity to the kitchen which we thought was great Cozy loft and upstairs fpr the young ones and good room to sit and talk downstairs for the adults Close proximity to the ocean and an easy walk to the beach We loved the quaintness of the home The new bamboo floors were very nice downstairs. Wireless network did not have many bars but this could be the reflection of seasons as we spent a winter week at this home. Easy drive to the shops and to restaurants in Duck We had a lovely time and were very comfortable at Duck Soup

This was our first OBX trip and we will definitely be back. We loved the private beach and the small town atmosphere of Duck. We thought the house was very clean although the carpet could stand a professional cleaning and the couch and loveseat too. All things considered, the description was accurate and the accommodations were very comfortable. We liked it more as the week went on. Internet access would be a nice amenity to add. All the appliances worked well and we had no problems at all. The mosquitoes were a bit pesty but that was partly due to the excess water from Irene. A good bug repellent was a must when walking around the area. If I owned Duck Soup, I would tear out the carpet and put in a hard wood floor with area rugs and get a new couch and loveseat. The rest of the house was in great shape. We definitely would rent this house again.

This home was absolutely filthy from the stained carpet, to the furniture, to the bathrooms, to the kitchen..... I don't how this place got good reviews and the photos, of course, did not show the dirt. I wrote a long e-mail to the owner about all of the things wrong and they wrote back and said I was hateful! They also stated we got a good deal on the price. Well, we are not in the habit of trading a good deal for cleanliness. Do what you want but we have never stayed in a place like this in 25 years of renting homes all across the U.S.

Owner response: Our home is such a great cute beach cottage which many many renters have loved over the years. It is not brand new-as stated, however we will just have to go with a thank you but definitely not a great fit with your expectations.

No surprises here! We have been to OBX a couple of times before, so we had something to compare this first visit to Duck with. The house was pure outer banks, swordfish and all. We spent more time out of the house than in, but did not want for anything. Our kids and our guests (and ourselves) went to our comfortable beds each night tired and happy! We enjoyed walking to town, very quaint. Our big Golden Doodle had the time of his life. We contacted the owner with a question about the microwave, they were most helpful. We fished, boogie boarded, rented jet ski's, and cooked fabulous food! Great time, would recommend to our friends. Reluctant to leave!

We had a lovely time at this house. it is a 3 minute walk, at most, to the beach, and is in a nice little community, very close to town. We really liked the bright, sunny colors in the bedrooms, the nice dining room table, large kitchen and comfy couches/chairs in front of the TV. Everything in the house (with the exception of my one comment, below) worked really well - washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, fridge, and AC unit were all in good working order and made our stay more convenient). Also, the owners are really responsive - Whenever I communicated with her, she always wrote back within 24 hours. The house was also stocked with bikes for riders young and old, which was really convenient. Having the keyless entry was also super convenient for us, because we lose our keys a lot! And, our dog really enjoyed the fenced in backyard, as well as the fact that we could take her on the beach. I loved the upstairs futon nook, which was perfect for reading a book in the afternoon after coming home from the beach (or taking a nap in front of the beautiful window in the nook). The kitchen was also nice and spacious - enough counter space for three people, or more, to be in there cooking at one time, which made it much faster to prepare dinner. The kitchen is also pretty well stocked - TONS of pots, pans, plates, cups, etc. Maybe missing a good sharp knife, but that's about it. Our two complaints (none of which would prevent us from coming back) are: 1. The upstairs bathroom drain is a little slow. By the time we finished a 10 minute shower, there was about 1/2 an inch of water still in the tub, draining slowly. 2. There really isn't any outdoor patio furniture. We love being able to sit on the deck for dinner, especially if we're grilling. So, we were a little bummed to discover there was really not an outdoor furniture set on the deck, because eating indoors is just not as much fun at the beach.

We were looking for peace and quiet but that was not possible here, given the proximity to a very busy road. The road noise made sitting on the decks undesirable and even inside it was annoying unless we had music on. There is absolutely no 'ocean view' as the features indicate. The house is in desperate need of updates (e.g., nasty stained carpet), minor repairs (toilets barely flushed, leaky dishwasher that must be manually coaxed thru its cycle) and a good thorough cleaning. The owners really need to invest a little $$$ if they want to charge the rates they do. Bring your own beach things as I don't consider one umbrella and one broken beach chair adequate even for a couple. The coffee maker didn't work which we replaced on our own dime as we were unable to reach the owners (no cell service, house phone is toll restricted and no WI-FI) nor the local maintenance contact (his phone was out of order.) We were so disgusted that we actually checked out on Day 2 and rented a MUCH nicer & bigger house just down the street, closer to the beach for less $, but it was a very costly decision to have to pay for two houses. At least the last five days of our trip were amazing!

Owner response: We don't know where any of this is coming from as quite honestly, this is the first we've heard of any of this...As you can see, we have had lots of positive reviews on our house and our location over the years and surely wish he would have contacted us -even after his stay - as we pride ourselves on being responsive to our renters. We have never had a problem with any renter saying they couldn't call us from the house and have spoken to quite a few. We believe our description of the house and location are accurately described and shown in the pictures as a cute and charming beach house!

What a great time we had! A 3 minute bike ride into town! Short walk to beach! My kids loved the hot tub, open decks, and freedom to roam! My dog loved his own private fenced back yard! Loved not having to take car into town, everything so convenient. House was beachy and comfortable! Great deal! Owner was prompt to reply to us when we forgot our entry code! Will be back! Yummy Duck Soup!

This is a good house with a great location. Easy stroll to wonderful beach and a nice walk into the town of Duck. Spacious bedrooms and kitchen as well as a nice deck to sit out on. Going in March I believe we got lucky a little with the weather, but it is a great time of year to relax and enjoy the Outer Banks in quiet mode. Would definitely recommend this house to others.

My wife and I stayed at Duck Soup for Valentines Day weekend 2011. We had a great time. The house was perfect for the two of us and our dog. It could accomodate another family with kids and we are thinking of renting it over the summer with the rest of our extended family. The beach was nice and desolate this time of year. Cozy place, good beach access, fenced yard for the dog, and a hot tub! I would recommend staying at Duck Soup.

location to ocean is great- very very short walk, nice decks to sit out on, bikes were great amenity to ride into town which is also very close. house is in need of some updates. unfortunately did not get to use the hot tub because something was wrong with it and couldn't get through to owners, despite leaving 3 voicemails. also took about 2 months to get security deposit back for some reason, typically deposits are returned a lot faster. overall was average stay in rental. but the town of duck is awesome and highly recommend visiting duck!

Unfortunately, we had to leave the OBX early, due to the hurricane, but what an enjoyable 2 days! This was our first trip to the OBX and absolutely loved it. The home is larger than I thought it would be and very nicely furnished. The outdoor shower was wonderful. Short walk to beach and my kids loved the upstairs loft area for tv. Our dog had a great time too!

We really liked the house. The location is great...just a 3 minute walk to the beach, and just a 5 minute bike ride to downtown Duck. We had a sink that would not drain, and the owner had it fixed in about one day. The hot tub was great. We would definitely stay there again.

Duck Soup is well kept inside and out. The fenced yard is a plus (and a rarity with rentals) and a picnic table to sit at and have coffee or whatever while Cirrus "takes care of business." We loved having the bike path right there (we were able to tune out the road traffic) to walk or jog on and also to access the shopping area. The yards of the other homes on the the street are also nicely kept so the walk to the beach is enjoyable. On impulse we had a great lunch at Red Sky in Duck and if you like the Southwestern touch you'll enjoy the food. Fishbones Raw Bar & Restaurant is a cute little "sports bar." Good draft beer. Entrance to the house was quick and easy and photos/listing was accurate. Liz is great to work with. Highly recommend this area and Duck Soup.

Duck Soup was perfect! My husband and I celebrated our 3 year anniversary, and it was exactly what we were looking for. The cottage style home was adorable and very cozy for those rainy beach days we rain into. The location is perfect for a morning stroll into town for coffee, as well as a short quiet walk to the beach. We loved the covered hot tub, as well as all the decks, they offered great views and privacy. We truely enjoyed our stay, and look forward to visiting again.

My husband and I loved staying in this house. The hot tub was wonderful. It rained several times during our stay and the hot tub was a relaxing substitute! The tub was on a screened in porch located just off the kitchen and deck and we had a beautiful view at night. The setting was very romantic. The deck was also great for catching some rays and just relaxing with a good book!
