Petronia Palms Is located just one block from the famous “Duval Street”! Which dumps out right at the " World Famous 801 Bourbon Bar".This lovely stand alone 800 sq. ft. cottage is located on Petronia Street Rear and just over 100 feet off the road by itself in it’s own enchanting little peaceful compound of 4 beautiful/cute cottages. The compound has a security coded entrance too. You are within walking distance to most of what Key West has to offer. Although close to Duval, the cottage is a quiet escape, since it is set back in its own little world of peace. You can kick back, just outside your private French doors from the large living room next to the 12 ft. x 24 ft. shared pool. Or just relax on the decking surrounding the pool under the sun in day and the stars at night or under the large covered porch, which leads along the meandering brick pathways. A large Gas BBQ has been provided, so that you can prepare your favorite meats and foods.Even Hammocks provided for each cottage,too. We can even provide any special requests, such as running an errand for Wine, flowers, etc., some may require a small fee to do so.
The single story cottage will sleep 4 very comfortably and has a large living room, large private/separate bedroom with a King sized bed, a queen sofa sleeper with memory form mattress in the living area, nice sized kitchen, with Tile flooring , dining room and full bath with Slate flooring , washer and dryer in its own private secured room. You can cool down with a dip in the pool , ( or warm up in the winter )or enjoy the new Central Air conditioning, within the cottage! And your own private parking spot! 2 parking spots provided. On a 1st come 1st served basis.
IT IS VERY PRIVATE AND QUIET! PUTS YOU IN A PLACE OF PEACEFULNESS!
I have provided free DSL internet & wireless ( Wifi ), phone with FREE long distance use, and cable TV an alarm system too. I also provide the use of 8 (Eight) Brand New Bikes with locks, lights, baskets at a very minimal charge too! And use of a safe at no additional costs. Its located in the heart of old town, this cottage is the perfect spot to enjoy the sites and sounds of historic Key West. Enjoy the excitement of the tropical evening, night life, just a minute’s walk over to Duval Street. Not far from where Hemmingway hung out at “Sloppy Joe’s”. You also get your own private front parking spot, right in front of the Petronia Palms compound and off the main street.
I have decorated the Petronia Palms cottages with carefully chosen colors, furnishings and fabrics, to remind you that you truly are in a tropical oasis, but with the Key West flare! The traditional Caribbean blues, yellows, greens and cottage style furnishings, make you feel as though you are in paradise, as you grab your favorite book and mix your favorite frozen beverage, in the fully equipped kitchen. Centrally located, you can bike or walk to the beaches or visit the special boutiques and restaurants up and down Duval Street!

Why the Owner Chose Private Homes, Old Town
Back in July of 2008 my girlfriend and I went back to Key West, because the previous stay was all work, converting one of my condos in the Meadows in Key West. While we were there, the last day I was told about a compound one block off Duval Street on Petronia Street, that was not directly listed for sale, but was just awesome. So I asked my girlfriend to go, and said no way, because if I liked it, I would start crunching numbers to figure out how to buy it. I went alone and met with now the previous owner. Of course, I then went back and got my girlfriend to come back to check this piece of paradise out. Most folks that have lived in Key West, don't even have a clue that this compound is back there, off its own little un-paved street. The compound is so quiet and peaceful and totally tropical with all the Key West colors too. The Big pool was in great shape as the entire compound. So, for those next few months, lots of Negotiations and finally on October 1st 2008, I became the new owner. I gave it the new name Petronia Palms and everything has been decorated to fit in with the Key West flare! Each cottage has its own personality and have been decorated to the max. I even have one with tons of Hemingway artifacts too. My handyman in Key West has become a welcomed sight to all that have stayed there. He has without my asking, took folks fishing, boating, shrimping, trips to the store etc. He even brings the folks fresh fish after his big catches. He has become the tour guide.
The Unique Benefits at this cottage
I have already been there 6 times since October 2008, doing lots of 20 hours days, providing lots of improvements to the entire compound. My next visit is set for May 1st 2009, to do more work. The compound is so peaceful. Who would think so, for being only a block or so from the Famous Duval Street. It is unknown to most the locals. I have heard comments, like, wow, I never knew this was back here. What a plus, to be off a one-way street and a private street off of Petronia Street. Sitting in the compound having a BBQ, swimming, sitting and reading a book, taking one of the 8 bikes provided for a ride or just sitting out on one of the many private decks for each cottage is a nice plus too. The entire compound is real lush with tropical plants and little cute artifacts around the entire compound. Too Cute! Even though each cottage is its own home, over time you get to know the others that are staying. Being right down the street to Duval Street, it is easy to get anywhere in mid-town and walk back home for a night-cap. It is its own little world away from the world. Pretty cool.

So traveling to Key West or Hawaii, where I have many different vacation rentals, which I own, doesn't require me to twist her arm to go.

We stayed for 10 days over thanksgiving and enjoyed it very much. The houses are clean and updated. The compound is off the street and secure. When not dining out it was nice to throw a few steaks on the grill on the private patio. The location was better than expected being just a block off of Duval St. in the middle of the island, so going to the pier or the ocean was a pleasant walk. I would gladly book it again on the next KW trip.

Just returned from my visit to Key West and stay at Petronia Palms-Queen Palms. First, Christina could not have possibly done anymore for us: greeted us within an hour of our arrival, offered tips on dining, sites, etc. and even brought fresh fish over one evening for our compound cookout! Thank you Christina! Amazed to find this great little compound in the heart of Key West. We only drove the car to Publix for groceries; biking around town on the bikes that were included in our rental was SO much better. We had an awesome neighbor and really enjoyed our pool time and getting to know her and the other folks at the pool. Evenings were spent laying in the double hammock reading Hemingway aloud prior to our tour of his Key West home. We hope to return in the near future. Thank you Ted and Christina for a fabulous, memorable visit.

My husband and I spent five nights here in Nov. 2009. The location is convenient and we appreciated the convenience of the washer/dryer. The other people staying in the complex were friendly, and we enjoyed the visits from the two cute kitties. Unfortunately, the drawbacks outweighed the positives. The rental decor badly needs a woman's touch. Do NOT stay here if you're allergic to dust. Cheap tin knicknacks are scattered throughout the unit and nailed on the walls all the way up to the ceiling, making dusting an impossibility. The dusty couches made us itch, so we covered them with extra sheets before sitting on them. The bedroom mattress was worn out and needs replacing. The "heated pool" was icy cold and needed cleaning. There were a number of things that my husband dubbed "very Florida." For example, you could only lock the cottage doors inside with a key, which poses a fire hazard. It's impossible to figure out which of the bank of 12 switches operates a particular fan or light without trying them all. The closet for the bedroom is in the living room. One must walk from the bedroom through the living room to reach the bath room. Finally, the first thing we saw when we walked in was a sign from the owner warning us not to leave the A/C on when away or he'd have to raise the rental fees to "cover this abuse." Ironically, we found the A/C on full blast after every time the caretaker left our cottage.
Owner response:These are the first folks that have not found this cute cottage to be a joy. I can't please everyone. This cottage was completely remodeled only months before their stay, from the ground up and the bed is a brand new pillow sleeper too.All the furniture is brand new, as well as everything in the cottage. One of the side doors did need a key, due to someone during the stay breaking the lock. It was fixed and all locks actually got replaced. I have spent a fortune to make my compound a nice place to stay, but once in a blue moon, I will get someone that won't be pleased, no matter what I do. As for the A/C? , there has been an abuse issue with folks leaving them on 24/7, while gone for hours and power is a big concern in Key West, as there are outages all the time. As for the pool? It was November and the pool is heated, but not like a bath tub. I try to make sure the pool stays at a reasonable heat, but periodically we catch folks cranking the heat to jacuzzi temperatures and draining an entire 30 gallon propane tank in 24 hours.As for closet space? The space is outside the bedroom and it is huge! There are dressers in the bedroom. I found out that their Dogs made a mess of the place and they paid no required Pet Deposit,either! As figuring out light switches? Come on now? Get a clue! They are light switches, you're not operating a rocket ship. I am sure anyone who reads their write up may see that these folks were really unreasonable.Who complains about light switches? Look at the pictures and other write ups and I can provide dozens more.Thanks!

I spent a month here June/July 2009, and it is truly a little tropical paradise! The compound grounds are beautiful and well-maintained by the owner's one-in-a-million grounds-keeper, Dale. The cottages are decorated Key West colors/style, and you are literally 5 or 6 steps from the pool from any cottage entrance. The location is excellent, about a block off the main drag Duval Street. Bikes are provided, but it's easy walking distance to just about anything you could want/need.

We drove 4 days (32 hours) to get to Petronia Palms. It was truly worth the drive. We spent the entire month of November there. It exceeded all our expectations. As soon as we walked in the door, we felt we were home. We always felt safe. All the comforts of home are there. I love to bake so I was happy there were cake & cupcake pans too. We didn't need a thing. The cottages are all beautiful along with a awesome pool too. We plan on making this a yearly vacation. Thank you Ted for putting so much attention to detail into Petronia Palms. We brought our 2 Maltese dogs and they loved it too! We love it and we can't wait to come back. Thanks again!

The Queen Palm was exactly what we expected. It was very clean, & had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. We enjoyed relaxing on our private deck & meeting other guests while swimming in the refreshing private pool. The property is perfectly located so that everything you want to do is within walking or biking distance. We especially liked the fact that the property was secure. No one is getting in w/out a code to the compound door. Our dogs also were made to feel very much at home. They loved the cool tile floors & they also enjoyed a afternoon nap out on our covered deck. Anything we needed or questions we had were professionally handled by Dale. He was just a phone call away & always was available to assist in any way he could. What a great guy! This was our first time staying in Key West, & we are already planning our trip next year & we will be back to this beautiful, quiet, & relaxing location.

It can't get any better than the Petronia Palms complex. There were 5 of us and our dogs who made the trip. We stayed in the Queen cottage with our dogs and our friends and daughter stayed in the Date cottage just next door. The back decks are very private and we had a great time relaxing after our days here. The pool is great and right outside your door step! Our dogs enjoyed having the complex fenced in so we could let them look around sometimes without a leash. Other places we have stayed are right on a street which always require a leash. Everything is very private but you are still right in the middle of town and close to beaches and other sights. Inside the cottage it is very nicely decorated with a Tropical feeling that reminds you that you are on vacation in Key West. There is also plenty of kitchen and bathroom items so there was no need to purchase anything including paper towels, TP, soaps of any sort, etc... The closets are great with lots of storage and plenty of towels!! If you are thinking of staying in Key West I can not recommend this property highly enough.
