Laureldale Cottage is a beautiful, professionally decorated home nestled among the trees on 140 acres in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, near Tryon, North Carolina. Close to shopping, gourmet dining, theater, and incredible antiquing, yet still "away from it all."
Sit on the porch and relax, stroll on our private trails, or take a short drive to waterfalls, nature preserves, or some of North Carolina's best trout fishing. Watch equestrian events at nearby FENCE or Harmon Field. Miles and miles of challenging or leisurely hiking trails are a short distance away.
Stroll through the quaint towns of Tryon and Landrum, less than 10 minutes away. If you don't discover the perfect treasure at one of the many antique shops there, drive a short ways up the beautiful Saluda Grade to Hendersonville, Saluda or Flat Rock. There you'll find dozens more antique shops awaiting your browsing pleasure.
At the end of the day come back to rock on the porch, relax in front of the woodstove, or gather round the fire pit for a marshmallow roast.
Plan a romantic getaway for the two of you, or bring the whole gang for a vacation or family reunion. There is room to spread out with almost 1000 square feet of porches, a large great room with a cathedral ceiling, a sunroom, and a kids' den stocked with toys, games, and videos.
Don't worry if it rains. You can play pingpong and foosball, surf the net,or work out on the fitness machines in the basement and then play games or work puzzles. Watch cable TV or view movies on DVD.
The first-floor, master bedroom has a cathedral ceiling and private bath. The cottage sleeps a total of 11 with three additional bedrooms upstairs, and private den with a double futon. This home is recently updated and professionally decorated with lots of comfortable antiques and quilts.
Golf and tennis facilities are available nearby. Some of the country's best whitewater rafting is one and one-half hours away on the Nantahala, the Nolichucky, or French Broad Rivers. The Chattooga, site of the movie Deliverance, will challenge even the most adventurous. For those with a more tame ride in mind, rafting or tubing on the Green River is a mere 30-minute drive. Lake Lure, 45 minutes away, offers beach swimming, boat rentals, and a water park.
Brush up on history at Biltmore Estate, Cowpens Battlefield, Thomas Wolfe Memorial, Carl Sandburg House, and Walnut Grove Plantation. Soak up culture at the local galleries, the Folk Arts Center, Brevard Music Center, and Flat Rock playhouse. Visit Rockhouse Vineyards and taste their wine. Take the kids on an educational field trip to the Western North Carolina Nature Center, the Schiele Museum, Roper Mountain Science Center, the Cradle of Forestry, Pisgah Fish Hatchery, or the Greenville or Hollywild Zoo. Just for fun, zip down the Davidson River at Sliding Rock.
Whether you are seeking an action-packed week, or a quiet retreat, you can find it at Laureldale Cottage.

We had such a fun time staying in this cabin! The pictures are accurate and the owner was very helpful in answering questions for me. It's probably a better fit for families with children since there are some single beds and bunk beds but it's still very comfortable and clean! I would definitely recommend it and hope to rent it again sometime.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

The cottage was beautiful, clean, comfortable, spacious yet cozy. We loved shopping and lunch at the Hare & the Hound Pub. Pearson Falls is beautiful any time of year. We really enjoyed cooking in the large, open kitchen and dinner around the antique table. The wood stove was warm and just as pretty as a fireplace. We can't wait to go back and share with other friends!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We spent a Thanksgiving week at Laureldale with our extended family. The kitchen was great for all our food needs - including our turkey meal! We especially liked the various "gathering places" that the house offered for different groups of folks to do different things at the same time. Sleeping arrangements are great too. House and setting are lovely. : )Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Our stay at the cottage, actually a home, was more than we had expected. The home and it's surroundings were bigger, more comfortable and peacefull than the web site showed. We were up for a horse show and after showing all day it was very relaxing to return to the home. We visited a few other homes rented by others at the show and hands down this home was the best and it was closer to the show. The Littlejohns were helpful in everyway eventhough we never saw them. It was truely like having our own mountain home. Looking forward to next season.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had a wonderful time at Laureldale. The Littlejohns were very helpful in the booking the house and once we arrived. We were just there for the weekend. Its a very kid friendly home with lots of space and a "kid" room with books, movies, and some toys. They loved having their own space and we loved being able to have some quiet. The woodburning stove is wonderful. We kept it going almost all weekend. The kids loved taking all the trails around the house. Tryon is a cute town with little shops and cafes. We will surely be back and hopefully for a longer visit.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We spent two wonderful weeks at Laureldale Cottage in September of 2006. The property was all we hoped for and more. Our two collies accompanied us and we can say this is a VERY pet friendly rental, they even can accomodate your horse if you wish! The high speed internet connection worked great and is a very nice service to have available. The Littlejohn's are perfect hosts. They are transparent, yet available if needed. Your privacy is respected. We definately plan to return.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Our group had a very nice time while staying at Laureldale Cottage. It was even more attractive than the posted pictures. We have rented many houses in many locations, and they don't always "measure up" to the descriptions. This house exceeded our expectations! Also, the owners were very friendly, flexible and genuinely committed to providing a lovely, relaxing "home away from home".Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Words cannot describe how wonderful our visit to Laureldale cottage was. We use it for an early family Christmas. We had 5 children with us and there was never a dull moment. We made some great memories and hope to keep this trip as a new family tradition. The Littlejohn's are fantastic people who allowed us our privacy. It was nice to know that they were nearby if a problem arose. We will return!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

The cottage was EVERYTHING Rick and Beth said it would be. Mom and I had a lovely mother /daughter weekend shopping and "scrapping". It was important to find a place that allowed us to bring our "four legged" child with us. Pooh had a wonderful time chasing sticks thru the woods. Weather was great. We spent one day shopping and the other just sitting in front of the wood burning stove scrapbooking. It is the perfect home for family and friends. Can't wait to go back!!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1
