Small, cute, clean, simple, cool and affordable get-a-way on the other side of the island, nestled up on a hill, overlooking Kaneohe Bay, probably one of the most beautiful views you'll ever see in your life. The sun setting behind the Koolau Mountains, back-dropping the Bay, the palms waving in the trade-wind breeze, sounds of birds singing in the trees shading the property; the many different shades of blues and greens, and white, fluffy clouds, coloring the landscape. Beautiful!!
(note: please be aware we do live in a tropical setting and though we do fumigate from time to time, we cannot guarantee you a sterile bug free environment. You may also see an occasional Geko, which we do not look at as pests, but to the contrary, welcome the little critters as they eat bugs. Tx.)

It was a wonderful holiday and a wonderful experience in our lives. This piece of paradise will remain forever in our hearts. Very clean little cottage for two, stunning, magical atmosphere and close to everything (beautiful Kailua beach, Lanikai beach with white sand, Honolulu and Waikiki just 30 minutes)! We have never met such a caring and friendly people like Uncle Dan and Ellie. Thank you very VERY much!!! I am sure we will always be friends and would be happy to take you on a visit to Russia. My second time staying at Dan & Ellie's nice "Room with a View" -- this time for six weeks -- was just perfect. Very friendly hosts, clean and quiet room with a world class view from the lanai. This spot is the perfect place to experience the real Oahu, away from the noisy and hectic Waikiki scene. Awesome!!!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Glad you enjoyed it James. Yeah! If you have to be on Oahu, this is the place to be. See you next year..... uncle dan/ellie

Thank you Ellie and Uncle Dan for being outstanding hosts. Your warm welcome and the great tips you had made our stay on Oahu unique. The apartement ist just perfect. We enjoyed breakfast and dinner on the lanai and were overtaken by the gorgeous view at the mountains and the bay every time. Coming home after a day at the beach or exploring the North Shore we felt at home. If you are planing a trip to Oahu, this is the place to stay. Quite neighbourhood, outstanding host, friendly neighbours spectacular view. Minutes away from gorgeous beaches....I could continue for hours! Dear Ellie and Uncle Dan, thank you again for having us and hope to see you soon! All the best wishes from Germany Eva and StefanRecommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

Thank you Dan and Ellie for sharing your beautiful guest room with us. You made us feel so welcome. We enjoyed breakfast each morning on the lanai looking at the mountains and Kaneohe Bay. After spending the day exploring all of Oahu we would come back to the room with a view and feel right at home. We very much appreciated the the time you spent with us answering Island questions, giving directions, and helping us at Kaneohe Yacht Club. You have a great place! If you are looking for a place to base your vacation while you are visiting Oahu, this is the place for you! First, the location...it seems like you are miles away from the hustle and bustle (traffic!) of Honolulu and Waikiki but in reality you are only a short drive from that side of the island! In fact, NOTHING on Oahu is more than 1 hour from this place. To say that the setting is beautiful is an understatement. From my private lanai I had a beautiful view of the bay and the incredible mountains...literally breathtaking!! It was wonderful to be able to come home to a well equipped suite that included the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. The owners, Dan and Ellie, were so warm and helpful--they made me feel welcome and helped me with suggestions that made my stay on Oahu so much richer than it would have been had I stayed elsewhere. When I return to the islands, I will not hesitate to return to "A Room With A View."Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

I think we'll go out there and try out that bed one of these days ( :-) Glad you enjoyed your stay. I'm gonna have to agree with you concerning the view- you'll not find a view like this, not only on this island, but anywhere in the world. Mom and Dad really scored when they bought this place back in the early 1900's..... uncle dan/ellie

My wife and I spent the month of March, 2012, in the "room with a view." We found the room to be just as advertised and were very pleased. I am not sure where anyone could find a rental with a more amazing view. We spent some very relaxing time reading books and drinking coffee on the lanai. Dan and Ellie are great people. We really enjoyed getting to know them during our extended stay. Dan is a wealth of information for any information you are seeking concerning any of the Hawaiian islands. I would highly recommend this property to anyone.Recommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had a wonderful time at "A Room with a View". The view over Kaneohe Bay was spectacular ... we had coffee out on the lanai every morning and just soaked it all in. As stated in the listing, the place is quite small, but it had everything we needed. Uncle Dan and Ellie were very accommodating and friendly. We would definitely stay here again!Owner response: Thanks again for choosing us. Glad it worked out for you guys......

This place was exactly as described and shown. I arrived to a breathtaking view and all the amenities I needed for my trip . It was so convenient to have a kitchen and some of the basic necessities while traveling (towels, basic toiletries, other small things laying around!). Uncle Dan was very welcoming and gave great advice on where to go surf. I definitely recommend staying here to anyone wanting to have a wonderful place to stay, away from all the tourists. The price is also below what you would pay at a hotel. I will never stay anywhere else as long as they have this room available, and will recommend this stay to anyone I know going to Oahu. I love the windward side of the island, so it was a perfect location, just a quick drive down the road to Kailua to the beach. Highly recommended if you like what you read/see here!!!!Owner response: thanks laura. always nice to have folks who see the beauty and appreciate our "Room with a View"uncle dan

Dan and Ellie are very warm and welcoming people, making us feel welcomed as soon as we arrived for our 4 night stay. The view from the deck is incredible. As Dan stressed to me when I was booking the room, it is small, though we found for two adults it works well. The bed was comfortable, room was very clean, the appliances we used (fridge and coffee pot) worked well. Didn't use any of the others as we were out enjoying the island. Shower worked well, nice pressure. What you see from the photo's they have posted is what you get. We found the fan adequate for keeping the room comfortable for sleeping. The location is great, you're close to good beaches and all that Oahu has to offer. Would we stay here again? Definitely yes. When we got off the plane in Bellingham (in shorts and short sleeved shirts), we were ready to go back, arrived home to heavy snow....mid April...crazy.Recommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks guys, for choosing us- glad you enjoyed the unit, and that it worked well for you....

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1954
About the owner: Brought Mom and Dad to Hawaii when I was 7, back in the early 1900's, when they bought our home here, on the side of a hill, overlooking Kaneohe Bay, when there was only 1 road over the Pali to our side of the island. They have always entertained people as I was growing up, so we figured we should do the same and create a unit on the property so you can enjoy what we have for a reasonable price. If we don't get to personally meet, its because we are at our other cottage, 5000 miles west of here, on the island of Samar where we often spend some of our life at my wife, Ellie's, homeland. Also look for the availability of our beach cottage on the island of Samar which is now on our other VRBO site.- including real estate for sale for those of you interested in investing in beachfront property on some of the beautiful, virgin, pristine islands within the 7,107 islands of the Philippine Archipelago. Aloha, Uncle Dan & Ellie.
Why the Owner Chose Kaneohe:
Mom and Dad's choice in 1954
The Unique Benefits at this Studio:
Never on Oahu will I see a more beautiful, breath-giving view. The sunsets while barbeque-ing and enjoying your favorite cold beverage on the lanai are second to none- Gorgeous! and although we are not on the beach, we are 5 miles from Kailua and Lanikai Beaches, which many of you have heard of as winning for being one of the most beautiful beaches in the world!! But, in my opinion, even those views cannot compare to our view of the Koolau, across the bay!! Also, we are 30 minutes to downtown Honolulu and Waikiki, and 45 minutes to the north shore, home to some of the best and biggest waves in the world. So, i would add, we are fairly centrally located. And i'm sure you will enjoy the town of Kailua itself, with its beaches, cool restaurants, and atmosphere--
And i might add:
We cannot offer a 40" t.v.
nor alot space, nor a ja-cu-zi.
our only air? is the tradewind breeze.
and our piped in music? the song of the birds in the tree.
But there are 2 things we can offer you:
affordable rates, and
A ROOM WITH A VIEW!!!!
