My wife and I spent the month of March, 2012, in the "room with a view." We found the room to be just as advertised and were very pleased. I am not sure where anyone could find a rental with a more amazing view. We spent some very relaxing time reading books and drinking coffee on the lanai. Dan and Ellie are great people. We really enjoyed getting to know them during our extended stay. Dan is a wealth of information for any information you are seeking concerning any of the Hawaiian islands. I would highly recommend this property to anyone.
Owner response:thanks guys, for choosing us, and for your company. Glad we had some time together and that you enjoyed your stay..... uncle dan/ellie

We had a wonderful time at "A Room with a View". The view over Kaneohe Bay was spectacular ... we had coffee out on the lanai every morning and just soaked it all in. As stated in the listing, the place is quite small, but it had everything we needed. Uncle Dan and Ellie were very accommodating and friendly. We would definitely stay here again!
Owner response:Thanks again for choosing us. Glad it worked out for you guys......

This place was exactly as described and shown. I arrived to a breathtaking view and all the amenities I needed for my trip . It was so convenient to have a kitchen and some of the basic necessities while traveling (towels, basic toiletries, other small things laying around!). Uncle Dan was very welcoming and gave great advice on where to go surf. I definitely recommend staying here to anyone wanting to have a wonderful place to stay, away from all the tourists. The price is also below what you would pay at a hotel. I will never stay anywhere else as long as they have this room available, and will recommend this stay to anyone I know going to Oahu. I love the windward side of the island, so it was a perfect location, just a quick drive down the road to Kailua to the beach. Highly recommended if you like what you read/see here!!!!
Owner response:thanks laura. always nice to have folks who see the beauty and appreciate our "Room with a View"uncle dan

Dan and Ellie are very warm and welcoming people, making us feel welcomed as soon as we arrived for our 4 night stay. The view from the deck is incredible. As Dan stressed to me when I was booking the room, it is small, though we found for two adults it works well. The bed was comfortable, room was very clean, the appliances we used (fridge and coffee pot) worked well. Didn't use any of the others as we were out enjoying the island. Shower worked well, nice pressure. What you see from the photo's they have posted is what you get. We found the fan adequate for keeping the room comfortable for sleeping. The location is great, you're close to good beaches and all that Oahu has to offer. Would we stay here again? Definitely yes. When we got off the plane in Bellingham (in shorts and short sleeved shirts), we were ready to go back, arrived home to heavy snow....mid April...crazy.
Owner response:Thanks guys, for choosing us- glad you enjoyed the unit, and that it worked well for you....

My wife and I spent seven nights here and would happily return at the earliest opportunity. The room is small but perfect for the two of us as a place of retreat after a day of fun and seeing the sights. The owners live right there but we hardly knew they were about unless we needed something. They were wonderful and very gracious hosts!! The room is clean and the view from the lanai is everything the ad says it is. You simply have to see for yourself just how beautiful Kaneohe bay is from this place. We awakened each morning to the sound of singing birds and cooing doves and enjoyed fresh coffee and a light breakfast on the little lanai in privacy while we drank in the view the sounds and the warmth of paradise. The bed was plenty comfortable (I've paid much more at other places to be much less comfortable). Fortunately for us the weather was very mild. The only drawback I can imagine about this rental is we did not have air conditioning. But with the remote controlled fan in the room we stayed plenty comfortable and was able to sleep just fine every night. We felt that the price more than compensated for not having the AC. We really hated to leave and as I said before we'd gladly go back again!!
Owner response:so happy to have Guests like yourselves, who see the beauty, and appreciate our place- we do try to make it clear in the pics and description, that it is small, but it is "cool, clean, comfortable....and affordable..." so we're glad to hear others say the same. We have no jacuzi, nor do we have a 40" LCD T.V. (but you probably got one at home anyway, right?) and we cannot boast of super luxury- all we have is----" A room with a View" in a quiet location-- and we sure do appreciate--------Guests like you. uncle dan/ellie

Hi Dan and Ellie, It was a pleasure meeting you both. We had a wonderful stay and the view and the location were perfect. We had everything we needed and more. By the way, the bed WAS very comfortable and it was SO nice to come back after our long days of exploring the island, to a nice, quiet, comfy place....The only thing we regret, is that we didnt get more time with the two of you to learn more about the history of Hawaii and just hang out and visit. NEXT TIME!!! We would also LOVE to visit your place in Samar someday. Maybe WITH you!!! Thanks for everything and we will see you again someday!!
Owner response:Thanks guys, and glad you enjoyed your stay. Sorry you had to leave so soon, and that we did not spend more time together. You're another great set of guests, and we do hope you return. Yes, there is alot to talk about concerning Hawaiian History. And yes- our other place on Samar Island is another adventure you may want to embark upon- Thanks again for choosing us, and we will see you- in the Future- take care, john/ellie day

Uncle Dan and Auntie Ellie, Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to stay in this beautiful setting only people with the true spirit of the islands could appreciate. We feel so blessed to have even just met such a wonderful ohana. When we come back, you will be the first one that we will contact about a place to stay. Good luck with everything you do. Aloha and Mahalo Nui Loa! Dana and Donna

My wife and I were looking for a way to visit Oahu and not break the bank. We found this wonderful place to stay at Dan & Ellie's Place (AKA Uncle Dan's). We had never done anything like this before (stay on someone's property). I had read reviews and looked at so many properties before we chose this property... We chose wisely! Dan and Ellie are awesome people and their place is in the most beautiful part of the island. The room was comfortable and quiet with a killer view of K Bay. We want to go back and stay longer next time.
Owner response:Thanks guys- always a breath of fresh air to have Guests like yourselves- thanks for choosing us, and, see you- in the future---------

"What you see is what you get" - the photos on this site are what we experienced. During our seven-day stay we spent almost 2 days just sitting at the deck table enjoying the world went by. The small studio with kitchenette provided all what we needed. We had a few chats with John (or Dan, same person) and really enjoyed his friendliness, openness, and helpfulness in providing us with info we're seeking. We would come back again if we're on vacation in the area. Thanks John and Ellie for the good time.

Staying here was perfect - close to the places I needed to go and to the people I wanted to see. Some of the highlights? Comfortable bed, awesome view, quiet neighborhood, falling asleep to the sound of the rain and the wind, waking up to the birds. (Who knew nature could be so loud?! lol) I would recommend this place to anyone wanting a simple, nice, clean and quiet place to stay; but this definitely ain't Waikiki! If you are into the touristy things and fancy hotels, then this isn't the place for you, but if you are looking for true aloha spirit with a friendly family, look no further! I immediately felt at home when I got there - all of the Days are friendly but not "in your face" - if you want to sit and "talk story", or if you need suggestions/directions, they are willing but if you want to go off on your own, you can do that too. Ellie & Dan - Mahalo nui loa for keeping an eye on my things when I was out. Planning another visit for next summer, a hui hou!
Owner response:Pam- you're making us look too good, but thanks for the feedback. Once again, its really the people who choose us, like yourself, which really seem to gravitate to our place- for that we are thankful. It seems like everyone who has come have been the perfect guests, and have had a good stay. Its true! Thanks also for choosing us......see you next year. uncle dan and ellie

We absolutely enjoyed staying at "Happy Days", meeting John and Ellie, 'talking stories', laughing, feeling like part of the family, LOVED the beautiful view out the window, listening to the breeze, being so close to Kailua and the Marine Base, to which we welcomed our Marine son home from Afghanistan...So glad we found it and were able to stay for a while, resting, relaxing and heading out for day trips away from the hustle & bustle of Waikiki/Honolulu. If you want peace and quiet, reserve some time at Happy Days!
Owner response:Thanks Dale and Joan- nice to have you guys-glad you enjoyed- always a pleasure to have folks who enjoy their stay- take care, Uncle Dan and Ellie-

We lived in Kaneohe a few years ago and feel we know Kaneohe and Kailua quite well. The Day's studio was a perfect base for us to get around Oahu and visit our friends and favourite places. Very comfortable, clean and reasonably priced. Wonderful view of Kaneohe Bay and the Koolau Range. Helpful, friendly hosts. We highly recommend Happy Days Hawaii.
Owner response:Thanks Dave and Barbara. Glad you liked it with us................

In our oppinion one of the best places to stay on O´ahu.Quiet, away from expensive tourist flooded hotels, best view over K-Bay just minutes away from Kailua beach (the best beach on the island) and really really nice people who care about you.It has all you need for a nice stay in Hawaii. If you want to do it right bring a bottle of "Spätlese" wine for Uncle Dan.Hey John looking forward to some Wiener Schnitzel ?? You probably will get some in the near future as we are surely coming back to your nice place.Mahalo and Servus from Bavaria.
Owner response:Philipp and Tina?? Glad you made it back safely to Bavaria- and yes, more Wiener Schnitzel- and, our feelings are mutual- thanks for choosing us- see you in the future. uncle dan/ellie

A cozy, affordable studio, with a million dollar view from your private deck. Uncle Dan and Ellie share the aloha spirit, and if you're in the mood, take the time to "talk story" with them. They have great tales to tell. This little studio is the best of both worlds. The breeze off K-Bay will quietly whisper in your dreams, but If you want to have a night on the town, its a short drive. Mahalo, Uncle Dan and Ellie. Ahui hou!
Owner response:Thanks Debbie. Glad you liked it, and glad you liked us! We seem to attract people who are like minded- the day Matt Murphy checked in(our guest before you) we talked for 4 1/2 hours- We always have gotten the "perfect" guests. And you are another, for which we are quite thankful for ourselves. Its so nice to have thankful people who appreciate what we have and are happy with what we have to offer- thanks for the good report. Do hope your business prospers in this coming year, and that "Doors" open wide for you- take care, Uncle Dan/Ellie

This was a great little place to stay. Clean, close to both Kaneohe and Kailua, equipped with everything I could need and has a great view off of the lanai. Dan and Ellie were very nice people and made me feel welcome. If you don't like the concrete expanse of Waikiki and want to get a feel of what Hawaii must have felt like way back when, this is the place for you.
Owner response:thanks matt. glad you liked it. did you check out our other place on the island of Samar??

When I think about my recent trip to Hawaii, I think of the view of Kaneohe Bay from the lanai of the Day's cozy studio. As a bonus, if you could condense the hospitality of Hawaii's great hotels and make it your personal experience, staying here was Aloha. No room service, valets, elevators, or fancy shops, but if that is what you wanted, forget it, this ain't Waikiki. But if you could imagine being here, not exactly remembering when you landed or when you drove up, but you wanted to be in the breeze and the warmth of Hawaii with a little poke from JJ's and not far from Boots and Kimo's or He'eia fish pond, being here is a great place to be.
Owner response:Thanks Jeff, nice to have you guys, and i would like to add for the sake of many who may not understand "Hawaiian words", "a little poke from JJ's" isn't what many of you may be thinking(ha). Poke, pronounced "Po-Key" is a fantastic raw fish dish,an hor'dourve, or appetizer (usually "ahi", or tuna,)marinated with a special sauce, raw onions, tomatoes- excellent with an ice cold Barley Beverage on the lanai of any home, especially one like ours overlooking K-Bay, with the sunset lighting up the sky, behind the Koolau. Beautiful! Uncle Dan and Ellie,

After a long search for the right vacation rental, we were thrilled to have found this delightful, affordable studio in Kaneohe. It was a great central location for our activities all over the island, the photos provided(including the spectacular view!) are exactly what we found, and the hosts (John & Ellie) welcomed us like old friends or family. Our favorite parts about staying at this place were the lulling coos of native birds outside, being so close to Kailua and Lanikai beaches, and the tropical breezes wafting through the open windows and patio doors. And did I mention that you won't find friendlier hosts anywhere? :)
Owner response:thanks steve and anna. the feelings are mutual. Uncle dan and ellie
