Beautiful Cold Springs Cabin with Forest Views and Hot Tub

Year Purchased: 1997

Why the Owner Chose Pinecrest

The Pinecrest Area came highly recommended to me shortly after I arrived in CA. I found a beautiful lake in the summer, a great winter sports area in the Winter and three wilderness areas to explore.

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin

Whether it's summer or winter, I love to jump into the hot tub after a day of exercise. It's so relaxing. Joseph's cabin has so many different amenities to provide relaxation and interest. I also love sitting out on the deck with the quiet and forest embracing you all around.

A
Reno Sardellas Pack Station

Join the Wild West atmosphere and go horsebacking with beautiful mountin views.

B
North Fork of the Stanislaus

This river offers wading, fishing and hiking. It's quiet and peaceful

C
Dodge Ridge Wintersports Area

Dodge Ridge is for families. It provides lessons, snowboarding, alpine skiing and is the closest snow to home.

D
Beardsley Lake

Beardsley Lake is at a lower elevation and so the water is warmer. This lake is ideal for motoring, water ski, sailing or sun bathing and swimming

E
Pinecrest Lake

This delightful and beautiful lake offers swimming, boating and hiking.

F
Cleo's Baths and Falls

Spectacular during the Spring, later Summer provides wonderful sunbathing and the excitement of jumping into the many pools of water.

Owner's Map of Pinecrest

Hi!

I purchased my cabin in 1997 and named it in honor of my Dad. I was born in Chicago, grew up in New Jersey and came to CA on a corporate promotion/transfer to Palo Alto in 1982. I was at a new comer party and told a guy that I wanted to buy a cabin someday and he said look everywhere but buy in Pinecrest. He was right! I purchased the cabin as a place my family could come and visit. Carol is in Pensacola and Tom is in Orlando. My dear sister, Joan, left us in June, 2003. All have been to the cabin at one time or another plus my three sons and many nieces and nephews. I early retired as a Human Resources Executive in 2000 and am now very involved in volunteering for organizations focused on social justice. It is quite rewarding.

I wish you well in your search for a nice cabin and can only offer the same advice ... look everywhere ... become a guest at Joseph's cabin!

While Mike and family were at the cabin, a toilet seat was broken. This came to my attention after they left. Mike did not feel that he should pay for this ($10 - $30). I told him that even though he did not report it upon arrival, I would waive the damage fee. I guess I don't know why guests do not report damaged items upon their arrival. Mike and family had to spend the week with one working toilet ... a phone call made upon arrival would have allowed us to replace the toilet seat on a timely basis. I was surprised to read his list of problems. It would have been better if my property manager came over to fix them all.

There was a party that took a broken bed and staged it outside the cabin. My property manager note this and also that the mattress was placed on the floor. After these guests left, the broken bed spring was brought inside and the mattress was carefully placed on the broken bedspring and the bed was made up as if there was no problem. I am glad that my property manager saw this because the next guest could have had an accident. I always want my guests to tell us of any broken furniture or non working appliances or if the cabin is dirty. This will allow us to fix these things within 24 hours so that their stay will be pleasant. In this case, I decided to charge the guests $100 to repair the damage.

look out for any problems with the cabin!!

We came in expecting the usual cabin experience with a "not quite like home" cabin but good enough for a weeks worth of fun in the sun. Be careful!! We realized that one of the boxsprings was broken when we arrived and could not use it.............my son and his wife used a mattress on the floor the whole week. We were then charged for breaking it!!! The owner says we should have told him the first day what was wrong and he would have fixed it..........right. Be forewarned: let him know immediately upon arrival if anything is wrong: broken toaster, screens on the doors, shower not working right, etc. He will charge you if anything is broken when you leave! Good luck.

Mediocre rental at best.

There is a reason this cabin is below the market price. It's old and worn down. There are holes in the screen doors so the bugs come in. The railing on the deck is loose so be careful when you lean on it. It's a 30 foot drop if it breaks (it's hard to believe the owner rents it out considering the liability he could face it someone fell off the deck). The general state of the rental is run down. There are some fold up chairs on the deck that look like they'll tear if you sit on them. The table cover for the deck table looks like moths have eaten through it. We ran out of toilet paper in day 2. There was no soap to wash your hands. The only redeeming point of this rental is Pinecrest Lake. It's a nice place to visit. Do yourself a favor though and find another rental. You'll be disappointed with this cabin. Everything about it is mediocre at best. The thing that really irritated me is that the owner charged my $85 to replace a broken toilet seat. The first time I lifted the lid it came off in my hand. I reported it when I got home but he still charged me the money. What did the owner think I was doing...reckless partying in the bathroom?

Wonderful cabin

This was a great place for our annual four-family snow weekend. The cabin was tidy and well-maintained and the hot tub was enjoyed greatly after many hours on the slopes. We liked having three levels as the kids stayed downstairs and the adults stayed on the middle and top floors. I would definitely recommend staying at Joseph's Cabin!

Each year my family and I come up to one of the Schmidt's cabins to enjoy the children's ski programs. We have been doing this for over ten years. Both Lucille's and Joseph's cabins are inviting, clean and comfortable. We love the private hot tub after skiing and snow play. I would recommend either cabin to family and friends who want to get together and have fun.
