Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2004

I'm Kim Wright, a single mother of two chocolate labs - Cisco (11) and Corbet (7) and a golden doodle - Clarke (4 mos) who love, love, love swimming in the Rappahannock River! In my spare time, I enjoy working on DIYer projects renovating the house, kayaking, running, watching movies, antiquing, eating out. After 12 years working for Nantucket Nectars, I now work for The Switch, a beverage company serving 100% sparkling juice. There will be samples available for all renters to try.

Why the Owner Chose Urbanna

I grew up going to visit my grandparents who had a cottage on the Northern Neck near Burgess, VA - where the Potomac River meets the Chesapeake Bay. When I decided to buy a river property, I wanted to be a little bit closer to Richmond. Burgess is 2 hours from Richmond. I wanted to be within 1.5 hours which put me on the Middle Peninsula. I started looking for property in Feb 2004 on the weekends and discovered Bay Port Bluffs in Jamaica, VA. The distance was perfect making driving options either 64 thru West Point or 360 thru Mechanicsville.

The Unique Benefits of this House

The number one benefit for me is the quiet calm of the country. It is rural VA at its best. Although the property is considered waterview, it has many of the benefits of waterfront since the house is situated in between two waterfront cottages at an elevated position so view of the river is great from the front yard or even from the living room via bay window. There is a private beach which is hard to find on river properties.

Quaint Cottage on Rappahannock River

Relaxing and easy!

My two girlfriends and I recently stayed at the cottage for a long weekend of catching up and sunning by the River. It was fantastic. The cottage is as described and more, the pictures really don't do it justice. It has a wonderful, very well-stocked kitchen and a open and airy vibe that is just great. We had the beach to ourselves the three days we were there, and while the water was too shallow for us to swim (had to walk out about 400 feet until it even reached our upper bodies), it would be great for little ones and we enjoyed placing the owners beach chairs at the edge of the water and reading. It was a relaxing retreat, and one of the most well-stocked rentals I've ever encountered. The listing says it has internet, but it actually doesn't...that's about the only problem we had during our stay and it wasn't a major one for us. We highly recommend!

Owner response:Thanks for the reminder that I needed to update the VRBO website. Dialup is the only internet option in the area the last time I checed so I decided to not set up. Most folks are coming to the cottage to relax and get away:)

Almost too relaxing

Had a very nice time over an extra-long weekend at this cottage. Great dog-friendly cottage -- our pup loved the freedom and the swimming! The only thing preventing a 5-star review is the bit of a hill to get down to the water... other than that (and that was just a minor issue), it was a great place to call home and either go out and explore the bay area... or just hang out and enjoy the river, the sun, the sand -- drink in hand!

Bring the Kayaks!

Thank you for sharing this darling property with us. Situated on a bluff overlooking the beautiful Rappahannock River. Hubby and I sat on the deck for hours each day just gazing at the river views! To die for! My first step into the cottage brought my stress level down several notches. The decor of the cottage is colorfully decorated and fabrics of warm prints and patterns relaxed me. We live only l.5 hrs from your cottage which made it an exceptionally easy three day get away. We brought our new kayaks. Not sure we would actually use them because we knew the water temp was still quite cold. After seeing the river and falling in love with the beauty of it we ended up kayaking twice a day! The river changes a lot, depending on the amount of wind and direction. It didn't stop us. The last day we were there the river was a sea of glass. We couldn't take our eyes off it. We did not leave this site all three days. So unlike us. We are usually in the car traveling from place to place to see all that is around the area. We did none of that. The cottage held me and the river beconed me to come and play. That is just what we did. I will never forget the view! The Happy Couple, Richmond, Va.
