This is a wonderful cottage. We like it so much we have stayed there twice this year. The cottage is very clean and well kept. It is just as you see it in the picture . It comes with a washer/dryer, fully furnished kitchen, and great heating/air system. There is a fishing pond out back, it is just a short walk to the pier/beach, and comes with free fishing passes to the pier. Located around this cottage is shopping, dinning, and attractions for all ages. The owners are just wonderful to work with and even called us to make sure our stay was going well. This rental is worth every penny.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Dear Larry and Kellie: We truly appreciate your generous comments on Cottage By The Pier! There's really nothing to add as you've covered it more thoroughly and said it much better than we could have were we posting it for rent on a website or in a newspaper! Thank you, also, for you kind words of my wife and I. Our continuing goal is to always provide our guests with comfort and relaxation away from home as that's what we believe "vacation" means! It is comments such as your that makes it all worthwhile! Larry and Janet

This was a perfect cottage for our family and everything was exactly as described. The proximity to the beach was even better than we imagined. The pier was great for fishing and sight-seeing, and the beach was very quiet. The owner responded immediately when we needed assistance. Everything inside was well-maintained and clean. Kitchen supplies were more than adequate. We spent a day at the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and had other outings planned, but honestly were content just being at the beach and in the hot tub! We would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a place to stay in Rodanthe.Owner response: Dear Adrinne: Thank you so much for the kind words regarding your stay in Cottage by the Pier. We are both grateful and humbled when our guests take the time to write such wonderful reviews! We're also extremely happy that you enjoyed fishing on the Pier and were able to take advantage of the free pier pass we provide for our guests, as well as the hot tub that comes with renting the cottage. We look forward to serving you when you again plan to vacaton on Hatteras Island, and we promise that we will continue to provide the very best in accommodations to you and to all who choose Cottage by the Pier as their vacation home away from home! Sincerely, Larry and Janet J.

My husband and I booked “Cottage By The Pier” for a long weekend of kiteboarding in Waves. My parents and our pet dog joined us. The cottage had been updated since the photos were taken, so it’s even nicer than shown in the online pictures. Don’t let the 800 sq. ft. floor area fool you. Four adults and 1 dog and we never felt cramped – even during an unseasonably chilly March weekend where the indoor space got much use! The hot tub came in very handy and made it feel like Summer when the sun was shining on us. The kitchen is impressively well-equipped for the space. I’ve stayed in large vacation homes with fewer kitchen amenities. It was really fun having the pier right there, which opened for the season during our stay. While the fishing was not good for us we did see migrating pilot whales, which was a first for all of us and very exciting! Overall, Cottage By The Pier was a fantastic beach cottage for our stay! Clean, cozy, and well-appointed. Larry was very attentive and great to work with! Thumbs up!Owner response: Dear Lindsey: Your very kind words regarding "Cottage by the Pier" are most appreciated and makes our efforts to provide the best for our guests all worthwhile! There's nothing we can add for you have said it all when you describe the cottage as clean, cozy and well-appointed for that is always the goal we seek to achieve. Thank you! Sincerely, Larry and Janet J.

We had an amazing time! Can't wait to come back next year. The Cottage by the Pier was exactly what we needed. Great small home for just a few people! It was clean and bright with plenty of room for us. Everything we could have needed was right at hand! The hot tub was the hightlight of my daughter's stay! We were just a short walk from the beach. Larry was prompt to return my call, which was just lack of knowledge on my part, and was very friendly and helpful! We will definitely seek out their properties in the future!Owner response: Dear Dawn: We are so very pleased you have joined many other previous guests in writing such kind remarks on your stay in our cottage. We do sincerely appreciate them, and promise you that we will continue providing the very best in accommodations. Our trademark has and will always be "OUR GUESTS COME FIRST"! Thank you! My husband and I decided to rent this cottage as our originally planned rental was cancelled by the owner. This was a last minute rental, we booked the afternoon before we arrived, and the owner was very understanding. We were able to make the payment through the Homeaway service, which was great, and we received our deposit promptly. The cottage was in great condition, very clean and close to the beach. Everything necessary was provided (review the amenities section.) You will need to bring laundry detergent and dishwashing liquid if you plan on using the laundry and dishwasher. As well as dish soap, dish sponge and hand soap, bathroom tissue, and paper towels. The hot tube looks brand new, very clean and nice. We enjoyed our stay very much, the weather turned out great for us. We would definitely rent this cottage again if the opportunity arose.Owner response: Hi Mora: We are so glad that you enjoyed your time at the beach; that you found the cottage as advertized, and that we were able to help after another rental owner had canceled your reservation. Thank you for taking the time to write a 5-star review of your experience. We are sorry that you had to provide your own laundry and dishwater detergents, as well as paper products. We did at one time provide all except the laundry detergent, but had to stop due due to the potential liability risk as some people have allergic reactions to certain soaps and paper products. We do look forward to serving you in the future! Sincerely, Larry and Janet J.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our 2 week stay at Cottage by the Pier! I would definitely recommend it to our friends. The beaches and weather were just awesome. The home itself was clean and nicely decorated as well as very well equipped with everything a home needs. I did some fishing off the pier and the beaches in the area and had a blast. The hot tub was nice to come back to after a day out and about, and during our stay the full moon made the hot tub experience that much better. We have stayed at more expensive places that didn't come close to great time we had here. Thanks Larry and Janet! Owner response: Dear Randy and Family: We're so very happy that you and your family enjoyed vacationing on the outer banks, and that you found our cottage clean, comfortable and well equipped. What a wonderful time we had at the beach! The house was perfect for our family of four. Our children 8 and 10 had a blast! Fishing at the pier was fun our son's caught the first fish and was sooooo happy. It did rain some of the time, but we took the kids to the Aquairium and they loved it. The hot tub was a favorite of the kids " an every night favorite" ! We loved the house, it was so cheery and well equiped and really had everything we needed. Being on a budget, we brought everything we needed and went out to dinner one time to the Sugar Shack. That resturant was very good, fresh and plenty of food for the money. In reguards to Larry and Janet, thank you for an awesome experience and wonderful memories, it means the world to us! Hopefully next year we will bring the whole family and choose another house of yours to stay in. I can't wait!! thank you again! Buck and KelliOwner response: Dear Buck and Kelli: Thank you for adding your review to that of several others who expressed much the same feelings as you about Cottage by the Pier. And, that is exactly what we try (very hard) to provide to our guests, a cozy home away from home with all the amenities necessary to make their stay memorable. We do sincerely appreciate your taking time to express your feelings about the cottage, and we want you, as well as all who read the reviews, to know that we will always go that extra mile to provide our guests with the coziness and comfort we ourselves would want in a beach house! We look forward to serving you when you plan to again vacation on the Outer Banks! Best wishes and kindes regards! Larry and Janet Jennings, owners

Janet and Larry: We have many fond memories of Rodanthe while staying at your beach houses. But our hearts always bring us back to Cottage By The Pier. The kitchen is equipped with everything, all the way down to a crockpot and crab pot. Furniture is comfortable and new decor is lovely. We enjoy the fishing passes to the pier that is included with the cottage. The cottage is always clean when arriving. We always patronize Lisa's Pizza. We bought seafood from St. Waves and it was delicious. It was great to have a produce stand at the end of the road and the girls enjoyed going over to Kitty Hawk Kites and have coffee in the morning (even though the cottage is equipped with a coffee maker). The ice cream truck drives right by the cottage and we got to know the lady on a first name basis. We talked to the new owners of the Rodanthe Pier. They had a wonderful pig roast and we donated money to the pier. They extended the parking and the pier house is stocked with snacks, souvenirs, and Tshirts. The neighbors on both sides of the cottage are lovely people. You and Janet are always kind and provide excellent service. Your homes are always well maintained and we did not have any problems. Thank you for a wonderful two weeks of Hattaras Island!Owner response: Dear Friends Rodney and Melissa: Thank you for the very kind words regarding your stay in Cottage by the Pier, how you enjoyed the area, and for sharing it via your review. Thank you, too, for the several years you have rented our homes and for always caring for them as your own! Mort importantly, a personal friendship has evolved between us that we pray will continue unto the end of our days. We pledge to you and to all that read your review, as well as those of previous guests, that we will continue providing the best in accommodations and amenities for all that choose Cottage by the Pier for their vacation get-a-way! Love staying at this cottage. Beach is beautiful, fishing on the Pier is so fun. Great to have restaurants and a produce stand at the end of the street. Hot tub is nice after a day of surfing. Deck is nice for relaxing and having morning coffee.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Dear Alicia: We're so glad you and your family had a great time at the beach and found all you needed closeby of the cottage. Providing a free fishing/sightseeing pass to the pier is just another way we try to help our guests enjoy their stay. We will continue striving to make sure we provide the best accommodations and amenities at a reasonable cost! Thank you for staying with us and for your very kind remarks! My husband, Ron and I had the most wonderful vacation ever. We stayed in the 'Cottage by the Pier', which by the way is the perfect name for it. (one could also call it the 'Cottage by the Ocean'....'Cottage by the Beach'..... I could go on.....) It is perfectly located in our view..........you can go North to see what you want to see...and you can go South to see what you want to see. It was wonderful to walk to the beach every day, go sightseeing, shopping, hiking and come back to a nice private place to relax and enjoy the sound of the ocean from the front porch. I was surprised when we arrived to see how roomy this cottage was and to find it so absolutely neat and clean was a plus. It is truly a home away from home. It is equipped with everything you need......except of course linens, towels and paper goods (paper towels, toilet tissue....it's there...but you need to bring your own). It is laid out so very well......beds are very comfortable, kitchen is perfectly set up. We couldn't have possibly asked more. It was really great to go hiking or exploring......to Ocracoke Island.....Pea Island Wildlife Refuge...and come back to relax in the hottub on the front porch. I was amazed at how great it felt to get in after a long day, even if it was hot outside. With the ocean breeze constantly blowing it's definitely a plus. We plan on coming back to the Outer Banks at some point in time....we haven't seen everything yet...and even if we do....there is nothing like a vacation by the ocean and having a 'Home Away From Home' to stay is makes it that much more enjoyable. And we know where we are going to stay........The Cottage by the Pier... !!!! Thank you Larry and Janet for having this little gem available....it's perfect and you two are to be commended for the care you take of this place. Sincerely Ron and Jody O'ConnerOwner response: Dear Ron and Jody: We are so glad you enjoyed Cottage by the Pier as your home away from home for a week, and deeply appreciate your kind remarks as to its cleanliness, comfort and amenities. We do strive to provide exactly what you found with the cottage, and to read such glowing comments truly warms our hearts! Before investing in rental properties we were also renters and had the displeasure of staying in a few homes that did not meet our expectations. That's one reason we go the extra mile to provide our guests with the best in accommodations, and we will continue to do so. We want those who read your review and our response to know that you left the cottage as you found it on arrival, clean and without loss or damage. This in itself is a statement that you are caring people who appreciate and respect the property of others. Thank you so much for being great guests and for taking the time to put into writing your feelings regarding your stay in Cottage by the Pier! Sincerely, Larry and Janet J.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2004
About the owner: My wife and I are senior citizens who love spending time at the beach and some nine years ago began investing in rental property. Having rented ourselves for a number of years, we know what people want; cleanliness, comfort and relaxation. That's exactly what we provide, plus some extras. While Cottage by the Pier is what's referred to as a 'beachbox', and is some 30 years old, its been exceptionally well maintained and updated with most everything one would wish, including fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, comfortable bedrooms, Cable TV, High Speed Wireless Internet, 6-person Hot Tub on front deck.
Why the Owner Chose Rodanthe:
Rodanthe is central to all the attractions on the outer banks and the adjacent Island of Ocracoke. It's also somewhat more quiet and 'laid back' than the northern beaches, plus, its own beaches are great as is the fishing from either the pier or surf.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
We have a small lake behind the cottage that connects to Pamlico Sound via waterway thereby allowing fish to migrate from the Sound to the lake for spawning purposes. Our guests have caught a variety of fish in the lake, including some fair sized Puppy Drum. It's great for the youngsters to hone their fishing skills. There is also a stainless steel fish cleaning table behind the cottage with a water spigot to aid in cleaning the fish.
