Location: Santa Monica, Los Angeles County & Catalina Island, California, USA (Walking distance to Santa Monica Pier, Montana Ave & 3rd St) View Map
Accommodations: House, 4 Bedrooms + Detached Unit, 3 Baths (Sleeps 8-10)
This exclusive Santa Monica residence, the private enclave of a renowned designer and architect team, is being made available for the first time to sophisticated travelers. Published in international design magazines, this exotic property boasts an eco-friendly tropical compound designed for first class living. The four-bedroom home, (sleeps 8) which takes its cues from in Bali, Mexico, India and Morocco, boasts an al fresco master bedroom sleeping loft, draped for privacy.
This is the perfect hip pied-à-terre for a visiting creative professional. The back guest house, rented separately, can accommodate an entourage.
Enthusiasm for the tropics and a love of world travel inspired this design team to embrace outdoor living, making the backyard the centerpiece of the property. It houses a pool, hot tub, palapa, living pond, water garden, outdoor lounging and dining areas, barbecue and fire pit on a “sandy beach.” The front yard boasts a small orchard and edible, organic landscaping -- avocadoes, plums, limes, lemons, loquats, mangoes and bananas, herbs and chilies surround the home.
The interior holds a collection of furniture, carpets and fabrics collected from around the world. Antique Indonesian columns and Indian wood windows are surprise architectural elements that echo the exotic decorative arts in the home.
In addition a guest-house can be made available for an additional fee. With outdoor shower and heated beds, the guest house sleeps four and gives guests the feel of a luxury outpost cabin.
Eco Features are the Hallmark of this Stunning Home:
The pool is solar heated and sanitized with a salt water system; white plaster and smooth glass tiles make it glow in the sunlight. Bare feet are warm on the concrete coping seeded with coral sand. The palapa is build with mortise & tenon joinery and thatched with local Mexican fan palm leaves. Rainwater from the roof is directed to raised planters of timber bamboo. Instead of the usual front yard of water-thirsty lawn, bananas, avocadoes and organic gardens surrounded by decomposed granite make it an environmentally friendly place for a respite. A hutch of hungry rabbits make quick work of kitchen scraps and turn trash into compost.
Location:
This tropical paradise is located in the tony “flats” of Santa Monica -- dubbed “flats” for the large level lots that line the wide streets near Santa Monica canyon. Four blocks from the ocean -- It is just a short walk to the breathtaking cliffs of Palisades Park that overlook the Pacific Ocean and world famous Santa Monica Beach and Pier. It is also steps from hippy-chic Montana Avenue shopping and dining and the Third Street Promenade shopping district. Address disclosed only to serious inquiries.
“Our home was conceived as a self contained environment, a sustainable village ‘kampung’, a repository for treasures collected from world travels; a peaceful island refuge within the city, but primarily as a living sacred place where modern domestic life can connect with the primitive and natural.” – home owner/architect

Why the Owner Chose Santa Monica
Santa Monica is one of the best Westside neighborhoods in Los Angeles. It is close to the beach and shopping and an easy hop to Malibu or the freeway to the film studios.
The Unique Benefits at this House
Our home is an oasis. When you are inside the property you hear birds singing, water falling, and the wind rustling the palms. It truly looks and feels like a private resort. In the summer we live outdoors, cooking on the barbecue, having fires in the fire pit, swimming in the pool, lounging in the palapa. There is no need to leave.
