  Our Family of 5 stayed in the Captains Cottage for two weeks in July 2009. The transaction and booking went flawlessly and everything was described 100% accurate. Upon our late arrival we found the house fully stocked with enough food and goodies to allow for a casual first day before visiting the market. The owners even supplied a welcome basket and fresh cut flowers along with fresh home baked goods upon our arrival. The house is newly renovated, furnished, extremely clean and well laid out with lots of privacy consisting of a bed room and private bath on every level. They have lovely gardens and a stunning lemon tree right off the deck loaded with fresh lemons. This house is unbelievable with every possible amenity and all the comforts of home. The beds were extremely comfortable and the house location was both private and quiet. We found our hosts Francesca and John to be extremely helpful and an absolute pleasure. They were available at all times and a wealth of information regarding must see places to visit. We have rented several properties but this property was the best by far. We would definitely return and rent this home again. Francesca and John, thanks so much for sharing your lovely home with us. See you next year.

  We had a wondeful week at The Captains Cottage. It was a perfect location for sightseeing. We had day trips to the Reagan Library, San Simeon, Solvang as well as Wine Country and downtown Santa Barbara. The cottage had everything one could want. It is beautifully decorated in a beach theme. We stayed with 2 other couples and everyone had their own bath and bedroom on their own floor or the home. We were greeted with homemade treats and basket of goodies. Nice touch.. Couldn't ask for more

  We had a very nice stay here. The house isn't that close to the beach, but it's up on a hill and has a great view of the ocean from most rooms. It was clean and had a lot of warm touches including fresh-baked brownies on the counter, milk in the fridge and fresh flowers in the bathrooms. The house has a lot of great deck and outdoor garden space as well. Our only complaint is that it's not ideal for dogs; the only way to get between the three levels of the house is a slippery open spiral staircase. The only way out of the house is through the lower level (which is not the level of the main living area) so your dog will need to navigate the staircase in order to get in and out of the house. We ended up having to carry our 50lb shepherd mix up and down the stairs several times a day, because she was too scared to walk on the stairs. There is construction in the works to make the second level (main living area) also accessible to outside; hopefully this will be finished soon so that pets won't have to go up and down the spiral staircase. Otherwise we had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend the place.

We are less than a 1/3 mile to the beach, which is a lovely walk. However, if you don't like to walk, our beach is one of the few with free parking and a small park for additional picnicing. Our beautiful ocean views are due in part because we sit on a hillside and we are a 3-story house. Our spiral staircase is featured in our pictures and for most people they are perfectly no problem. However, for some, including small children or those with physical impairments, we do recommend you consider our other cottages that are primarily one-level. Many thanks for your visit and review.   We had never been to Summerland previous to this trip. We stayed at Captain's Cottage for a few days in April of 2011. This is a very comfortable, spacious and beautiful home. The views from the decks are fabulous and we loved walking down to the beach from the cottage. Walking back up was a bit more strenuous, but still fun. The grandchildren did enjoy picking lemons off the tree in the yard and making lemonade for us. Beds were comfortable and towels were plentiful, large and wonderful. Everything that we needed to fix our meals was easily found in the kitchen. All of the welcome goodies were nice. We enjoyed the brownies, the teas, as well as the other snacks and beverages provided. The fresh flowers were very pretty. The hosts are very helpful and we appreciated all that they did to make this stay special for us. It was an easy drive to visit Santa Barbara. Also a scenic drive to Solvang was enjoyed by all. We did pick up some things from the Summerland Market for one of our meals. Prices were higher than a regular market, but that is to be expected for a small, regional store. The deli had great choices. It was also nice to be able to find abundant organic products in the market. The weather even turned out to be wonderful the entire time, although the forecast had been for storms. The only slight downside to our stay was the dishwasher. I do not think that it cleans well, or previous guests did not use it properly. All in all, the Captain's Cottage was a great place to stay and we would highly recommend it. In fact, if we ever have the opportunity, we would stay here again!

  This house more than lived up to expectations! The welcome items were greatly appreciated and made it easy to just settle in and relax from day 1. The house is in immaculate condition and the owners were a pleasure to deal with.They clearly have pride of ownership. Conveniently located to Santa Barbara and Montecito and there is a way to get around using the back roads and stay off of Hwy 101.We used the house to relax and enjoy the gorgeous weather and beautiful scenery. Also, it is a great base for sightseeing and visiting great restaurants.We will be back!!!

  The Captain's Cottage is divine.From the sheets on the comfortable beds, to the winding staircase up to that heavenly master suite. The fabulous ocean view is therapeutic. Run don't walk to this great escape.

  We had a great stay here for our cousin's wedding! The Cottage was an amazing home and a great base for all the activities of the week. We couldn't have imagined anything more perfect. Betsy and family from Minnesota

  Francesca and John, What an incredible place to gather for a special family reunion! Six Westmont Alums convened from all over the country [Maryland, Colorado, Utah and the Bay area] to enjoy the beauty and luxury of your home. You pampered us royally with all the goodies -- there was not one thing that we can have asked for to make are stay more enjoyable. We enjoyed Breakfast at the Summerland Beach Cafe, East Beach Grill and dinners at Aldo's, Brophy Bros and the Enterprise Fish Company. We will definitely be back for our 20th reunion. Thanks.   What a fantastic home! The description in the listing was totally accurate and I would say exceeded our expectations! Upon arrival we were pampered with fresh brownies and other goodies to enjoy during our stay. The view of the ocean from the decks is beautiful. Our group consisted of 6 adults and there was more than enough room to gather, sleep comfortably and enjoy good food, wine and games around the dining table and patio table. Only minutes away from Santa Barbara without having to pay S.B. lodging tax. We will definitely be back. This time I went with friends, next time I am bringing the family! The communication with the owners was excellent in arranging details and I received my security deposit within 3 days of the trip's end. Very impressed...no amenity lacking.
