This lake house in Minnesota's vivid Headwaters Region invites guests with it's blend of simple charm and attention to detail . The pristine quality of the setting on Lake Hennepin and surrounding 5 acres of grassy wooded property is just the beginning. Inside the newly remodeled home, you will find a cozy retreat, complete with a romantic master suite. Perfect for special celebrations (honeymoon, anniversary, reunions) or simple at-the-lake vacations, this home fits the bill for families, couples, or gatherings of friends.
Our beautiful well-equipped kitchen opens to a relaxed dining area. Enjoy a lake view whether you're cooking or eating. Tables just outside on adjoining deck and lower brick patio are perfect for morning coffee or al fresco dining. Reading materials, radio and music library, comfortable furnishings and artwork make the adjoining living room a warm, inviting area.
On the main floor, too, is the extraordinary master suite with floor-to-ceiling window walls. Here you will find an in-room jetted tub for two, and a large tiled bath with double shower and two sinks. Spacious, quiet, and romantic, this area has its own door to the outside and access to the deck, patio, and lake. The lower level has the third cozy bedroom, separate full bath, laundry room, and entertainment room with 42" LG HDTV, DVD Player and Sony PS 3. Here is the room for a retreat after outdoor activities. With its walk-out feature, lake-side windows and easy to use gas fireplace, this is the place for movies, TV sports, or video games. Two fold out beds allow this room to sleep 4.
One of northern Minnesota's natural gifts is the panorama of the seasons. Warm weather and water activities abound here. Autumn in the north country is stunningly beautiful, perfect for long hikes and visits to Itasca. In the winter, park your snowmobiles in our 40' square garage or take up snowshoeing (we provide 2 pair!) cross-country skiing or ice fishing. A Modern Lake House in Yesterday's Setting
Year Purchased: 2007
Why the Owner Chose Bemidji
The Lake Hennepin property is centrally located between Bemidji, a bustling college town, and the legendary Itasca State Park, source of the Mississippi River. As a northern Minnesota retreat, this ideal location offers the full range of outdoor, lake, and scenic activities. The nearby city of Bemidji is available to all who are looking for an easy day trip into town and all it has to offer, including Bemidji State University. Some of our favorite times include paddling on the lake, hiking nearby DNR trails, swimming, snowshoeing, cooking, and quiet times on the sunny deck. Our northern Minnesota heritage made this rental property an easy choice when the opportunity became available.
The Unique Benefits at this House
The unique vantage point of the house on 5 acres, with the island view, pines and birch, the unspoiled shoreline, and the presence of wildlife and waterfowl, all combine to present a look into Minnesota's past while enjoying thoroughly modern living. How often do you get to see six loons playing thirty feet from your deck? Wildflowers, bear tracks, wolf calls... The quiet and the sounds of nature are a major draw to this place. DNR hiking trails can be found a 5 minute walk from the front door of this lake home. Inside the home, find maps and tourism info from both the Bemidji and Park Rapids area detailing nearby trails for biking, hiking, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing. Many of our winter guests have enjoyed downhill skiing at neary Buena Vista Ski Area (see map). Visit Bemidji for a taste of college town life. Itasca to the south and Bemidji to the north provide the two aspects of wilderness and town life for our guests to partake in. The public boat landing is literally 2 lots away from our dock. Free use of the canoe and tandem kayak will get you out on the water!
Just 2 miles from your door~this is where the locals go for burgers & beer. Full menu includes salad bar & walleye. The cheeseburgers come highly recommended!
Experience Itasca State Park, home to the headwaters of the Mississippi~ walk across the rocky stream as it begins it's mighty journey to the Gulf of Mexico. Just a $5 ticket per vehicle will allow y

Three families in our group spent a wonderful weekend at this great vacation house. This house is clean, well maintained, and nicely structured. It has all the features to satisfy both adults and small kids. We enjoyed the time in the house as well as backyard fishing and grilling. Itasca State Park is only 15 minutes away and Bemidji is only 20 minutes away so this place is conveniently located. We will definitely go back again.

It's extremely hard to find all these things in one place. Beautiful home, quiet and beautiful lake, great beds, well-equipped kitchen, charming decor, seclusion, fishing, birding, photography, walks, an island to explore, abundant wildlife and (surprise) a wonderful classic Jensen 18-foot Kevlar canoe......we really couldn't have asked for anything more. Owners communicate exceptionally well.

What a nice place to get together with a large family and relax! Our group consisted of 9 adults, twin toddlers, and 3 dogs. The house was beautiful, clean, and comfortable. We cooked up a storm in the well equipped kitchen, and ate on the large deck overlooking the lake. The view from the master bedroom is especially beautiful, as it is surrounded by windows. We did a little of everything from fishing and canoeing, quiet reading, to site seeing at Itasca state park and Bemidji. We swam, hiked, played games and sat by the fire.It was a very homey place for a large, scattered family to visit and catch up with each other. We celebrated the oldest daughters birthday at a little bar and grill a mile up the road. The house was clean enough for 2 grand babies. They bathed in style in the Jakuzzi tub, drank thier bottles overlooking the lake, saw Paul Bunyan and his ox, and dipped thier little toes in the headwaters of the Mississippi! It was great to have laundry available too! The dogs even had a good time. One of them loved canoeing, one loved swimming off the dock and the boat (ours) and all three had fun exploring under the deck and along the shore. Our lab actually pouted when we packed to go home and laid in the drive trying to block the kids from leaving! The owners were very accommodating and made us feel very wellcome. All in all It was a great experience and we would heartily recommend staying here!

Oh what a wonderful place! Clean and cool. And boy did we have hot weather! Wonderful beds and even the futon with the added pads worked well! Paulette was so very helpful as well. We so enjoyed going to the Becida Bar & Grill to pay darts and pool and eat wonderful meals. All fresh food! And only a couple of miles from the cabin. We brought our own boat the the access was only around 600 ft from the cabin. When the weather was threatening we were able to back the boat in the large metal building. I hope to come back! Former Minnesota gal now living in Miami! Pat

What a wonderful time we had during our week at this beautiful lake home! The home is beautiful, well-equipped, super clean and the location is great. Included in the many memories are our eagle sightings, loon watching, fishing off the dock, canoeing, deer wandering on property, family meals on the deck overlooking the beautiful lake view and firepit area relaxation. We had wonderful weather during our stay; the only unfavorable weather was the evening of the 4th of July thunderstorm , and we enjoyed a spectacular lightning show from the living room! This home is wonderfully equipped for that perfect quiet vacation. Thank you Paulette for making our stay unforgettable. Our family loved it!!

We loved our time at Hennepin House! We were looking for a cabin in the woods for a family gathering, and this was perfect for our three-generation family. The setting is secluded and the lake view is very beautiful. The house is extremely comfortable, very clean, well-laid out and well-equipped, especially the kitchen. We liked the fact that the TV was in a second sitting room downstairs, so those watching DVDs or playing video games didn't disturb those reading upstairs. Since it was May in northern Minnesota, the weather was not always cooperative, but we enjoyed canoeing, grilling out and eating dinner on the deck overlooking the lake. We spent a day at Itasca State Park, picnicking and exploring the headwaters of the Mississippi--a highlight of the trip since we live at the other end of the Mississippi. We also spent a rainy afternoon at the Headwaters Science Center in Bemidji, perfect entertainment for the 6 year old in our group, followed by an excellent dinner at Tutto Bene restaurant. Paulette could not have been more helpful and obliging, giving us excellent travel directions and tips on shopping, providing the crib and high chair our youngest grandchild needed, and making sure that everything was in order when we arrived. My older daughter said it best, "We want to come back!"

"Simply Amazing" is how I would classify our vacation. The home was in pristine condition and fully stocked with everything you could possibly need. There were 10 of us that stayed including 6 kids under 21. There was never a shortage of things for us to see and do. The kids enjoyed swimming, fishing, playing games, and just lounging around reading a book or listening to the loons. We enjoyed watching the eagles fish out by the island. On numerous occasions the eagles would fly right by the dock for easy viewing. We got to see the baby loon riding on momma's back. The fishing was fantastic. We feasted on a fresh meal of fish - yummy! My neice caught a really nice sized bass too and couldn't stop smiling :) We enjoyed our day at nearby Itasca State Park. It was so fun to walk across the rocks and cross the Mississippi on foot. The kids gave the home the new name of "Dragonfly Lodge". These little winged friends were feasting on the bugs and providing us with hours of enjoyment. I can't say enough good things in this review. Paulette was fantastic and so prompt in answering all my emails and questions. Thank you so much Paulette, Tom & Tom for sharing your beautiful home with us and giving us so many treasured memories of the time we got to enjoy together. May you be richly blessed for your generosity and care that you show to others. We will be back!!!!!!!

We rented this fabulous cabin as a retreat for my family and another family during a hockey tournament in Bemidji where our sons participated. The home is so inviting and welcoming after lots of hours in hockey rinks! The kids played games in the basement and wandered around in the woods. The adults took walks on the snowy mornings, played cards and rang in the New Year in the comfort of this wonderful lake home. It was very comfortable for all - we had 4 adults and 4 kids in the cabin and never felt crowded. The decor is very tasteful. Everything we needed was there....and then some! There was nothing better than the view of the lake and a hot cup of cocoa!! We had alot of snow and high winds during our stay, but even with all of the snow, the drive was kept clean, as was the road approaching the driveway. The wild life was plentiful and fun to watch. Very peaceful. I fully encourage you to rent this cabin for your get away as we found it to be a little piece of Heaven on Lake Hennepin!!!

We had a wonderful winter honeymoon experience here! The view is beautiful, and we loved the spacious home, flat screen tv, cooking & dining spaces, and master bedroom & whirlpool tub. The cabin is surrounded by wildlife and woods. Travel to the town of Bemidji or to the headwaters of the Mississippi River would make for a fun afternoon excursion. The view of the lake is beautiful! We would definitely return, and we'd recommend this home to our friends and family for a cozy, spacious retreat - both in the winter and the summer months!
