Great vacation house.

Three families in our group spent a wonderful weekend at this great vacation house. This house is clean, well maintained, and nicely structured. It has all the features to satisfy both adults and small kids. We enjoyed the time in the house as well as backyard fishing and grilling. Itasca State Park is only 15 minutes away and Bemidji is only 20 minutes away so this place is conveniently located. We will definitely go back again.

"Beyond Amazing."

It's extremely hard to find all these things in one place. Beautiful home, quiet and beautiful lake, great beds, well-equipped kitchen, charming decor, seclusion, fishing, birding, photography, walks, an island to explore, abundant wildlife and (surprise) a wonderful classic Jensen 18-foot Kevlar canoe......we really couldn't have asked for anything more. Owners communicate exceptionally well.

We had a wonderful time. Relaxed, played, swam, canoed, kayaked & fished. Everything you could need was provided. The cabin is great and very clean, large deck and patio were well appointed with furniture and tables. We enjoyed the indoor areas as much as the outdoor areas. A great time was had by all from the baby to the dog.

Beautiful, relaxing getaway for a multigenerational family!

What a nice place to get together with a large family and relax! Our group consisted of 9 adults, twin toddlers, and 3 dogs. The house was beautiful, clean, and comfortable. We cooked up a storm in the well equipped kitchen, and ate on the large deck overlooking the lake. The view from the master bedroom is especially beautiful, as it is surrounded by windows. We did a little of everything from fishing and canoeing, quiet reading, to site seeing at Itasca state park and Bemidji. We swam, hiked, played games and sat by the fire.It was a very homey place for a large, scattered family to visit and catch up with each other. We celebrated the oldest daughters birthday at a little bar and grill a mile up the road. The house was clean enough for 2 grand babies. They bathed in style in the Jakuzzi tub, drank thier bottles overlooking the lake, saw Paul Bunyan and his ox, and dipped thier little toes in the headwaters of the Mississippi! It was great to have laundry available too! The dogs even had a good time. One of them loved canoeing, one loved swimming off the dock and the boat (ours) and all three had fun exploring under the deck and along the shore. Our lab actually pouted when we packed to go home and laid in the drive trying to block the kids from leaving! The owners were very accommodating and made us feel very wellcome. All in all It was a great experience and we would heartily recommend staying here!

Minnesota Nice!

Oh what a wonderful place! Clean and cool. And boy did we have hot weather! Wonderful beds and even the futon with the added pads worked well! Paulette was so very helpful as well. We so enjoyed going to the Becida Bar & Grill to pay darts and pool and eat wonderful meals. All fresh food! And only a couple of miles from the cabin. We brought our own boat the the access was only around 600 ft from the cabin. When the weather was threatening we were able to back the boat in the large metal building. I hope to come back! Former Minnesota gal now living in Miami! Pat

Fabulous retreat!!

What a wonderful time we had during our week at this beautiful lake home! The home is beautiful, well-equipped, super clean and the location is great. Included in the many memories are our eagle sightings, loon watching, fishing off the dock, canoeing, deer wandering on property, family meals on the deck overlooking the beautiful lake view and firepit area relaxation. We had wonderful weather during our stay; the only unfavorable weather was the evening of the 4th of July thunderstorm , and we enjoyed a spectacular lightning show from the living room! This home is wonderfully equipped for that perfect quiet vacation. Thank you Paulette for making our stay unforgettable. Our family loved it!!

Simply Amazing

Guest: Meg (Cologne, MN)
Date of Stay: 06/12/11 Review Submitted: 06/16/11

"Simply Amazing" is how I would classify our vacation. The home was in pristine condition and fully stocked with everything you could possibly need. There were 10 of us that stayed including 6 kids under 21. There was never a shortage of things for us to see and do. The kids enjoyed swimming, fishing, playing games, and just lounging around reading a book or listening to the loons. We enjoyed watching the eagles fish out by the island. On numerous occasions the eagles would fly right by the dock for easy viewing. We got to see the baby loon riding on momma's back. The fishing was fantastic. We feasted on a fresh meal of fish - yummy! My neice caught a really nice sized bass too and couldn't stop smiling :) We enjoyed our day at nearby Itasca State Park. It was so fun to walk across the rocks and cross the Mississippi on foot. The kids gave the home the new name of "Dragonfly Lodge". These little winged friends were feasting on the bugs and providing us with hours of enjoyment. I can't say enough good things in this review. Paulette was fantastic and so prompt in answering all my emails and questions. Thank you so much Paulette, Tom & Tom for sharing your beautiful home with us and giving us so many treasured memories of the time we got to enjoy together. May you be richly blessed for your generosity and care that you show to others. We will be back!!!!!!!

Perfect Spot for a Family Reunion

Guest: LHB (Baton Rouge, Louisiana)
Date of Stay: 05/27/11 Review Submitted: 06/16/11

We loved our time at Hennepin House! We were looking for a cabin in the woods for a family gathering, and this was perfect for our three-generation family. The setting is secluded and the lake view is very beautiful. The house is extremely comfortable, very clean, well-laid out and well-equipped, especially the kitchen. We liked the fact that the TV was in a second sitting room downstairs, so those watching DVDs or playing video games didn't disturb those reading upstairs. Since it was May in northern Minnesota, the weather was not always cooperative, but we enjoyed canoeing, grilling out and eating dinner on the deck overlooking the lake. We spent a day at Itasca State Park, picnicking and exploring the headwaters of the Mississippi--a highlight of the trip since we live at the other end of the Mississippi. We also spent a rainy afternoon at the Headwaters Science Center in Bemidji, perfect entertainment for the 6 year old in our group, followed by an excellent dinner at Tutto Bene restaurant. Paulette could not have been more helpful and obliging, giving us excellent travel directions and tips on shopping, providing the crib and high chair our youngest grandchild needed, and making sure that everything was in order when we arrived. My older daughter said it best, "We want to come back!"

Hockey Tournament get away

Guest: Patty (Andover, MN)
Date of Stay: 12/31/10 Review Submitted: 01/10/11

We rented this fabulous cabin as a retreat for my family and another family during a hockey tournament in Bemidji where our sons participated. The home is so inviting and welcoming after lots of hours in hockey rinks! The kids played games in the basement and wandered around in the woods. The adults took walks on the snowy mornings, played cards and rang in the New Year in the comfort of this wonderful lake home. It was very comfortable for all - we had 4 adults and 4 kids in the cabin and never felt crowded. The decor is very tasteful. Everything we needed was there....and then some! There was nothing better than the view of the lake and a hot cup of cocoa!! We had alot of snow and high winds during our stay, but even with all of the snow, the drive was kept clean, as was the road approaching the driveway. The wild life was plentiful and fun to watch. Very peaceful. I fully encourage you to rent this cabin for your get away as we found it to be a little piece of Heaven on Lake Hennepin!!!

Honeymoon Getaway

Guest: Rachel (Alexandria, MN )

We had a wonderful winter honeymoon experience here! The view is beautiful, and we loved the spacious home, flat screen tv, cooking & dining spaces, and master bedroom & whirlpool tub. The cabin is surrounded by wildlife and woods. Travel to the town of Bemidji or to the headwaters of the Mississippi River would make for a fun afternoon excursion. The view of the lake is beautiful! We would definitely return, and we'd recommend this home to our friends and family for a cozy, spacious retreat - both in the winter and the summer months!

Our family stay at the Hennepin house for a week this summer. We all really enjoyed ourselves. The house is very updated, clean, and well maintained. It is located in a very tranquil setting with a fantastic view of the lake. It is located close to Itasca State Park and Bemidji which we also enjoyed.

Private lake in your back yard!

Guest: Tricia (Rochester, MN)
Date of Stay: 07/28/10 Review Submitted: 08/10/10

I had a fantastic experience during our family's long weekend getaway (along with another family) in this cabin. What impressed us the most was the serene setting: the entire back of the cabin opens up to a panoramic view. Because hardly any of the surrounding land has been developed, it truly felt like the lake BELONGED to us! As for the condition of the actual cabin: it is pristine. The master bedroom is RIDICULOUSLY large and all the spaces are clean, inviting, and perfect for relaxing. The owners offer a canoe for daytime entertainment and we enjoyed movies in the entertainment room at night. We had a blast. Thanks to Paulette, for being the spokesperson for her team. We were impressed!

Paradise in the North Woods

Guest: Jane (Los Angeles)
Date of Stay: 07/21/10 Review Submitted: 08/01/10

We arrived - from NYC, Los Angeles, SD, MT, CO, ND - four generations who grew up on summers at the Minnesota lakes. What a wonderful time we had at this lovely home on the edge of clear spring-fed Hennepin Lake. Swims with the loon and beaver, turtles and fish, eagles and heron, and a kitchen that met the needs of some very finicky cooks! This is a place which will create memories for years to come as it did for our family - thank you Paulette & Tom 2!

We had a great New Year celebration/reunion party at this beautiful and cozy house! It will suite all need: it is situated in a ‘deep’ forest next to the lake and all the amenities are available. The winter sunrise is especially wonderful experience at this house. Also, you can really tell that this house is in cared hands and has a unique spirit and touch.

We had a chance to use this property for a beautiful fall weekend with friends. The house is very comfortable and we really enjoyed our stay. It is right on the water and the view is amazing. Everything was set for us when we arrived and you can tell the owners give attention to detail. I would recommend this property for a very relaxing getaway.
