Prepare for sensory overload when the Fall colors explode in this peaceful setting. Escape back in time in a beautiful, 90 year-old lakefront home. Isolate yourselves from the stresses of the outside world. This is real serenity from another, simpler time, not new construction dressed in phony, rustic trappings.
Our 2000 square foot home sits on one and a half well-kept acres. It is a true getaway. We have not tried to modernize it beyond basic needs, so leave the TV schedule and Internet at home. Bask in the quiet beauty and enjoy over 200 feet of lakefront footage on lovely Summit Lake, a small, little-known gem tucked away in the foothills of the Catskill Mountain. You won't be disturbed by the roar of motorboats or jet skis -- only pedal boats, kayaks and sailboats are permitted -- ensuring your tranquility and solitude.
A wood pellet insert in the fireplace is the centerpiece of a large, comfortable family room and offers the charm and atmosphere of a wood-burning fireplace without the inconvenience of hauling logs. It produces lots of cozy heat in the colder months and works along with three propane-burning heaters to keep the entire house toasty.
A large, partially-finished upstairs is perfect for housing a complete family (my brother's family of four is stationed there during their visits) or is an ideal get-away for the kids. A double bed, two convertible couches and a top-of-the-line queen size inflatable bed (they'll be fighting over it) provides additional sleep space for up to 6 extra people and a portable crib for a toddler.
The kitchen and dining areas are cozy and comfortable and feature an electric stove, side-by-side refrigerator, double coffee pots and a microwave oven. The spacious dining table seats 10.
A large wrap-around elevated porch overlooks the lake. Explore the lake on our four person pedal boat or swim in the crystal clear, refreshing waters. Or just swing in a lazy hammock as the sun sets.

Year Purchased: 2007
Patti and I love the sea and raised our family in a small Florida beach town, a block from the Atlantic Ocean. But it seems as if our personalities go through a mellowing process as soon as we step onto our lake-front paradise. We look forward to that day when we retire and can spend as much time here as we like.
Why the Owner Chose Summit Lake
We vacationed in the Leatherstocking District and nearby Albany with it's easy access to the beauty of the Andirondack and Catskill mountain areas nearly every summer. So it was a natural spot for us to search for a more permanent vacation spot. But we never believed we would ever find such a dream location. It's hard to explain the change that comes over us when we drive onto the property. The stunning beauty and quiet serenity overwhelm us every time we visit.

Relax in complete solitude or explore the worlds of Washington Irving (Rip Van Winkle) and James Fenimore Cooper (The Last of the Mohicans) in the historic Leatherstocking District. Your getaway is an hour from the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, 20 minutes from the charming, and historic towns of Schoharie and Middleburgh, 15 minutes from convenient shopping Cobleskil and only 45 minutes from the Albany Airport. The region has many attractions: Howe Caverns, the Iroquois Museum, Secret Caverns, golfing, hiking galore and a bonanza of snowmobile paths, one of which terminates at the end of our driveway.
