This delightful and spacious 250-year-old detached farmhouse has been tastefully renovated to a very high standard. Completed in January 2009, Le Grand Buisson retains many original features such as oak beams, granite fireplace and original doors and is part of an ancient ‘corps de fermè’ surrounded by the original barns. Le Grand Buisson offers a relaxing and stress free holiday home in a tranquil country setting.
Set in it's own 24 acres of farmland, Le Grand Buisson is home to approximately 40 cows. There is plenty of space to enjoy eating alfresco and to cool off on hot days there is an Intex above ground pool in the rear garden. The pool is 18ft x 9ft x 5ft and has a volleyball net.
The property is located close to the small hamlet of St Clement Rancoudray which has a small store and boulangerie and approx 7 km away is the larger market town of Mortain which has larger supermarkets, restaurants and an outdoor swimming pool.
Le Grand Buisson is tastefully furnished in a mix of modern and period locally sourced antique furniture with practicality and comfort in mind. With good sized rooms and a large play barn, there is plenty of room for large groups to relax. Please see our own website for more details (address below).
We believe in attention to detail and it’s the small details that ensure your stay at Le Grand Buisson will be an enjoyable experience. The house is centrally located to visit many of Normandy's attractions. The Normandy D-Day landing beaches are just over an hour's drive away, as is the dramatic Mont St Michel abbey, with it's ancient winding streets and delightful night time illuminations. The Bayeux Tapestries at Bayeux can be reached in around 90 minutes drive, as can the chic town of Deauville if you fancy a designer label shopping fest or a leisurely saunter along the wide beach front promenade. The high tech Citè de la Mer at Cherbourg is a great day out for the children and there are also numerous zoo's and wildlife park's within easy reach. From LGB you can drive to Paris in around three hours or indeed take the train from nearby Flers. Closer to home you can find a great fishing lake at Ger and golf in Vire. There is also a selection of colourful local markets, Vire on a Friday morning being very busy as is St Hilaire on a Wednesday morning, where the locals turn out in their hundreds, the sound of piped music from the town speakers fills the air and the smell of the French bread hot dogs is always too delicious to resist.

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2007
We are a family of four with two Weimaraner dogs, who live on the South Coast of England. We like to walk, cycle, jog and workout. Being located in the countryside, LGB is great for all these pursuits and we have established a small gym in the barn, which we add to each time we visit. Good food is one of our passions and we love to entertain. The local markets are fantastic for buying good quality fresh produce. We also like to relax and chill out to recharge the batteries. After a hard day’s antique shopping in one of the many local Brocantes, there is nothing better than curling up in front of the log fire and watching a great movie on the home cinema system – glass of vin rouge optional!
Why the Owner Chose Mortain
We like holidaying in the North of France as the new pet passport scheme allows us to bring our dogs with us and the journey is relatively short on most of the ferry routes - we can get to Normandy quicker than we can get to most of the holiday hot spots in the UK. Even the longer overnight ferry crossings are fun as you can relax and sleep whilst the ferry sails you to France. Once in Normandy you feel like you have been transported 50 years back in time. Green rolling countryside, lack of urbanization, no traffic on the roads, relaxing shopping, low crime rates, polite, friendly and helpful people are the characteristics of this family orientated part of the World. You soon feel your stresses melt away with the slow pace of life.
The Unique Benefits of this Farmhouse
Having fallen in love with the area we found it very difficult to find suitable holiday homes to rent. Whilst there are many gites and holiday homes to rent in Normandy, there were none that matched our remit. We wanted a holiday home that had comfortable stylish furnishings (rather than stuff from large cheap stores), fully equipped with all the mod cons, was in a peaceful and private location (not a hotel or part of a complex) and was able to contain two ‘Houdini’ hounds and had plenty of space for two active children to run around. Thus we purchased Le Grand Buisson in the summer of 2007 and set about renovating this derelict property to meet our requirements and hope that others will find it a wonderful place to stay too. Each season in Normandy has its delights and we have designed LGB to be comfortable all year round. We have installed very modern plumbing & central heating and the house is cozy and warm in the winter. In the spring and summer you can spot loads of species of wildlife. There are owls in the small barn, red squirrels in the lane, birds of prey soar over the rooftops and we were very lucky to spot a pair of Pine Martens (a member of the weasel family) in the large barn this June. We have loads of further plans for the property in the future and will be improving the property and facilities on an ongoing basis. We want to create the ideal place for a large group of friends or family to holiday together but in a totally private location. Plans for the future include a further house to sleep 8, a barn conversion to sleep 6 and an indoor all year round use swimming pool, a sauna, a spa treatment room and a fitness centre.

We have so enjoyed our week in the beautiful house! It has everything you could want with a fantastic range of books, DVD’s, kitchenware and appliances. The house has been lovingly furnished and decorated with elegant and luxurious accessories, bedding and furniture – well done on a superb job! Thanks to Danny & Tina for their help and advice – it was appreciated. We have enjoyed this lovely house in this idyllic part of Normandy. Nothing has been left to chance and with Danny & Tina being most welcoming and helpful, we have been well looked after. Finally, anyone who stays and enjoys a good curry must ask Danny. It was an excellent dish

What a beautiful house to stay. The kids enjoyed watching a movie every night! We enjoyed the beams and the board games. The kitchen was big and had enough room to cook yummy meals. WE DON’T WANT TO LEAVE!
