My husband and I came with my sister from England and her husband and 3 boys age 7 -12. We had a fantastic time. The cottage was clean and tidy when we arrived. There is a full size fridge and stove in main kitchen and both were clean and fairly new. Nice new gas barbecue. The view from the cottage is wonderful. The water is right at your back door, is very shallow and it is a quiet little inlet so it is great for families with young children. We enjoyed fishing and the boat. Though boat could be repaired as we found it leaked a bit. Hugh property out front for kids/adults to play a game of soccer etc. There is an Independent grocery store only 15 minute drive from cottage in town of Prescott. The area had lots to do as very historic but we ran out of time as only rented for 4 days. As another reviewer stated, yes there were a few cobwebs in the windows etc and could use a good spring cleaning and a little bit of maintenance on minor items but overall we were very happy with the cottage and location. We would go back againRecommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children.

Nice spot right on the water with lovely evening light. Great for kids since the water is shallow and the boat is fun. The cottage was well equipped, bathrooms clean, carpets vacuumed however it was in need of a good overall spring cleaning. There was dust and cobwebs on furniture and doors, and the windows and window jambs were dirty and dusty. There were several maintenance issues -- only one shower was usable, kitchen tap didn't always work, screen doors had rips in the screen, and the garden furniture needed cleaning. The tap water smelt of iron or sulpher. Thankfully there was a water filter on the kitchen tap but it was very slow. I've provided this feedback directly to the owner. I would only recommend this place if the maintenance was improved.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: This was a fair and honest review. We are actively correcting each of the issues. -Brian Murphy

The photographs of this property are accurate in that if you think it looks run down, that is because it is. The "modern and well equipped kitchen" was neither modern nor well equipped but dirty and very, very dated and in our case was dirty. To welcome others into a rented property it should be clean and well maintained which this property is not. The property's floor is uneven making the bed lean to one side, the wallpaper is coming off the walls, the windows are held open by wooden blocks, the shower head is rusty and broken and rather just replace it, the original old shower head is left there rusting next to a new one which barely works. The water is undrinkable and smells of rust throughout the property. The front door is a sliding door which does not function properly or slide and is dangerous and the property smells damp. There is also a train that sounds several times throughout the night. The outside furniture and table cloth was dirty on our arrival. However, the lake and the bird life and wildlife surrounding it are lovely and if you are interested in watching it, there is a very good TV.Owner response: Dozens of families have thoroughly enjoyed the cottage over the last several years for ten days at a time. This review is an outlier after a 3-day stay. The kitchen has a new stove, fridge and microwave. There is uneveness of the floor, not uncommon for cottages. There is thick new carpet. It is not a problem. A professional maid/cleaning service keeps the cottage fresh after each rental. The water is well water, treated with an Aquasonic filter and is very drinkable. With the filter, it does not even taste like well water. The sliding doors are sticky. These will be re-lubricated and then replaced. The beautiful trees do drop lots of seeds on the patio furniture which is hosed off regularly by the cleaning service. The train is a mile away. Toots are heard throughout the very quiet countryside. Some find that romantic. The area is very peaceful and beautiful. -Owner

There are lots of birds - geese, ducks, cranes, kingfishers as well as many different types of small birds, due to a large wetland located nearby.
