This was my second stay (first for the others in my group) in a property owned by Jarek and Kate. It was just as nice and inviting as my first stay several years ago. The property is clean and well maintained. It was close to everything, having a Target and Giant store just around the corner. We felt safe walking home late at night from the subway. The front door lock is a little "quirky" but we eventually got the hang of it. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

Good property; as advertised; would stay again.
Good property; as advertised; would stay again.
Traveled to D.C. to visit daughter and son-in-law. Four adults, one infant stayed comfortably in this condo, with room for one more couple (although that room would have no door). With washer/dryer in condo, well furnished kitchen, close proximity to green metro stop (green line terminates at bus stop for BWI airport), proximity to CVS and Giant grocery, several good/adequate restaurants nearby, this property suited our needs. Preferable to hotel because of room for family to gather in living area/dining room. We are familiar with D.C. neighborhoods, and were very comfortable in Columbia Heights...it's not quite Dupont Circle, but these aren't Dupont Circle prices. Felt very secure, no problem with door locks, good instructions from owners. Several quirks: 1) the restrictions regarding towel use were a little distracting, haven't seen this restriction in other properties rented 2) owners want no shoes worn inside the property (we complied but not our usual practice) 3) upstairs shower not intuitive but worked well when my wife figured it out. Had no trouble with either television, very light use. Beds were low, but comfortable and not a problem for us. Overall, recommend the property and would stay there again.

Great place to stay
Great place to stay
Very clean, convenient townhouse. Well furnished, enough space for 8 people. Close to metro station and safe neighborhood. Easy access to DC landmarks. Enjoyed our stay there, and definitely will consider for the next visit to DC.

This was our first time using vrbo and boy, were we impressed! It was as pictured, very clean, and there were little things that just made us happy - like big containers of shampoo and body wash in the shower, and a DVD of national treasure that was very fun to watch after our day out visiting the sights. Might I suggest adding national treasure 2 to your very small movie collection as well? (There was only one dvd but there is a dvd player and target with $5 movies down the street). It was comfortable for 2 teenage boys, 2 teenage girls, my husband and I, and my mother. The master bedrooms were both spacious and the curtained bedroom was perfect for the girls. There were 2 tv's, one in the master upstairs and one in the living room and both of them were working fine. We had a lot of choices of where to stay while in dc, but I'm glad we picked this one. Thank you!

Spring Break DC Stay
Spring Break DC Stay
I waited just over a month to write this review and with a friend about to visit DC, I realized that I could recommend this VRBO listing, but with some caveats. First the positive... Everything we wanted to see in DC was readily accessible. It was roughly a 5-minute walk to the Columbia Heights Metro, to the Giants grocery store, etc. We really enjoyed The Heights restaurant north of the Metro station. The owners also provide a very detailed "welcome packet" with suggestions for the DC area, tips on both touristy things & other ideas on what to see that a non-local might not know about. This was greatly appreciated. Beds were comfortable and there were plenty of "spaces" for us to utilize in the evenings for reading, privacy, etc. The kitchen provided everything we needed for the simple meals we planned to prepare. The negative... while this home was plenty spacious (we are a family of 5 with three children ages 10, 12, 14), to call it "luxury" is a bit of a stretch. The pictures are mostly accurate in what the space looks like and we don't need complete luxury to be comfortable. However, once we arrived, we found 3 TVs, only 1 of which actually worked. The one in the master didn't even have a plug connecting it to the wall, and the small one in the loft either didn't have a remote or otherwise didn't work. (These aren't pictured, though, and if you don't want multiple TVs you'll be fine.) The DVD player also didn't work, so after our initial travel day when we were tired & wanted to watch the movie they had in the TV cabinet, we were disappointed to be unable to do so. Also, I have two girls & a son & at the end of long days trekking through the city, it would have been nice for them to be able to relax and watch different things on TV. Not a huge deal, but if only 1 TV works, I suggest removing the others from the rental so one doesn't have the expectation of 3 working TVs. I'd also say that the IKEA furnishings are starting to show wear. The white TV cabinet was broken (the two outer large drawers would not shut) and the fabric on the loft couch was wearing off. Overall, the rental was functional and well-priced compared to hotels (factoring in that we could cook some dinners in....), but I would look around before choosing this rental again. I have typically rented VRBOs in the CO mountains near our home, and this experience was average compared to the other places we have stayed.

Owner response: Thank you for your feedback. We are glad that you enjoyed your visit to Washington and our unit. We are sorry about the TVs not working. We only advertise one TV as of right now as we have just recently purchased the additional three TVs that were waiting for the cable company to come out and connect them, which is why they were not working when you were staying with us. We also really appreciate your input about the luxury aspect of our unit. We understand that the word luxury can be very subjective and local. In our market (being Washington DC), having almost 1,700 square feet of living space, newly renovated, with brand new kitchen, stainless steel appliance, luxury modern bathrooms, one block to the Metro in NW part of Washington comes at a cost of almost $1 mil, which we consider luxury. But again, luxury is subjective and we appreciate you noting that.
We had a great time in DC and staying at the Columbia Heights residence was exceptional! I wish we would have seen the CVS and Giant cards prior to shopping at these stores, but oh well, still loved the stay!

We stayed at this Vacation Rental (902568) from May 23-30, 2012. The house has everything expected in a home and was very very clean and comfortable. We never met the owner, Jerak or Paula and only communicated with Jerak after he returned my phone call regarding opening the locked door. The house is 3 blocks from the Metro, which is the only transportation we used. There are grocery stores a few blocks away. The only thing I would say is that the beds are very low and as I have two Total Knee Replacements it was almost impossible to get up from the bed. Another thing is that the TV in the Master Bedroom upstairs was not working and I always like to watch the news in the evening before ending my day. Just two issues, but the main one is the low bed. Otherwise, we enjoyed our wonderful first trip to Washington, DC and I can say that I fell in love with Washington. I highly recommend this house for its cleanliness and comfort and would stay there again. Mary

We do agree with most previously reveviews. Very clean, confortable, well equiped, easy accesses from airport, a lot of life around, easy to get downtown. We recomment the place. The owner give a lot of accurate information about Columbia Hewights and Washington. Not expansive for 6 adults.

About the owner: We are family owned and operated. From the left meet Kate, Jarek (sister and brother) and our mom Dana. We have lived in Washington for over ten years and love this cosmopolitan city where people get up every morning and get to work on changing the world. The most powerful people in DC can alter the course of history and try to make the world a better place. It's a city where philosophical debate and advocacy of issues beyond one's own family or pocketbook rule the day; a city where what's going on in one's head is far more important than what one is wearing; a city where people come from all over the world to experience democracy and learn the principles of our free society. We get visitors from all over the country and the world. Some come for one time visit with their family, others keep coming back number of times a year as we host many repeat guests related to the federal government, foreign embassies and the US State Department. We take great pride in having our unit very clean (our mom cleans it, so you know it’s spotless), conveniently located within walking distance to all shopping, restaurants and Metro. We want you to enjoy your visit whether it is once in a lifetime trip with your family or monthly visit for work. We are looking forward to hosting you in DC and if there is something we can help with, let us know.
Why the Owner Chose Columbia Heights:
We bought this property, one block to Metro, restaurants, grocery stores and cafes because we love the convenience of this unit and the neighborhood. You will find this unit very convenient for your stay and will enjoy its location, close to everything.
