Very Nice Accomodations

This apartment worked well for our family of five. It was nicely decorated (Ikea style) but very comfortable. The location was perfect. Around the corner from a grocery store, yogurt shop, several eateries, and a shopping center. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is twofold: The first reason, because I was a little perturbed about our front door key not working. The front of the building (this is a townhouse with three units) and our unit front door had combination locks in addition to key locks. The keys worked for our unit but not for the front door to the building. We could unlock the door by using the combination but it would never lock from the outside using the combination. We were uneasy leaving the front of the building unlocked so we notified the owners by email. They never did replace our key but apparently sent someone to check the combination lock and told us it was working fine. We tried locking it again with the combination lock and it still did not work. I tried, my husband tried, and it still would not lock. My husband and I both have MD's so I think we have some brain capacity. After the second email, and a couple of days later, we received an email saying we were probably not locking it correctly. All one had to do was push a button that said lock (in the middle of the keypad) and it would automatically lock. It was not necessary to enter the combination! Had we had instructions on how to lock the door from the outside, or been given this information earlier, or had keys that worked, we could have saved ourselves a lot of headache! The second reason for not giving 5 stars is the rental contract was a little "off putting". I would recommend easing up on some of the verbiage in the rental contract. If you use any extra towels or linens (other than the ones put out for you) you will be charged? What if a towel is dirty and you need to use an extra one? Also, listing the fees for breaking a dish? I think this is a little extreme. I would hope there is a different way to weed out people who might come in and trash the apartment. We have rented apartments all over the globe and never seen this in a rental contract. Lastly, if you have a car please read the street signs very carefully. Monday morning we came out just as the tow truck was backing up to our car. Fortunately, he was in a good mood that day! I did enjoy the travel books on DC and the sightseeing recommendations left in the apartment.

Great Location

Guest: Jack (Wilmington, NC)
Date of Stay: 03/26/12 Review Submitted: 04/07/12

I'd rate this very good if there was such a category. It's actually a 3 block walk, but easy, to the Metro. So the location is excellent for anyone visiting DC plus the airport connection. Photo's are accurate, very clean, and owner was very helpful in providing info before arrival and responded quickly to our requests during our stay. Definitely recommend this place. Only drawback was the smaller bedroom on the ground floor--my sister said the bed wasn't very comfortable. The other two bedrooms were great. Local restaurants are closeby: The Heights was excellent, Red Rock Pizza just fine, and local take-outs abound for dining in. On street parking is fine except for street cleaning day when you have to find somewhere else to park.

Great stay!

Great location and great owners! It was the perfect amount of space for our girls weekend! We loved the short walk to the metro, restaurants nearby, and loved the fact there were a few items left from the last people who stayed/Paula and Jarek (coffee, spices, etc). We needed a parking pass the first morning there and Jerek came so quickly-great service right there! The only thing I'd recommend for future guests is spacing out showers if you have several people staying (the hot water ran out), but that is it...amazing time overall!!!

All in all a wonderful experience! We have rented moany times through this site in many cities both here and abroad, and I must say that this was our best experience. Typically, you can find something to complain about (not enough hot water, kitchen poorly equipped, etc). This unit is better than advertised, very clean, tastefully decorated, well equipped kitchen. The neighborhhod is neat, Metro is around the corner. Great eating spots within a block or two (try Heights @ 14th and Kenyon and Riconcito across from the Giant on Park). The Giant supermarket around the corner is open 24/7. We only needed to reach out to Jarek once (to get our parking situated), and he was very accessible and responsive. I would highly recommend this unit for anyone wanting to spend time in DC

The apartment was far nicer than appeared in photos, very tasteful and incredibly clean. My wife and I spent 5 days over Christmas with our three sons ( ages 22, 21 and 15). Kitchen was very well stocked with everything we needed to cook in, as well as other conveniences, such as coffee filters, spices, etc. Metro a 5 minute walk away, and some really nice places to eat within two blocks (The Heights @ Kenyon and 14th, and Riconcito on Park across from the Giant supermarket). Jared was great, and always available and helpful if we needed to contact him by phone. We have rented from private owners in London, Paris, Barcelona, and DC, and this was as good an experience as we have had

Incredible week in DC

Guest: incredible week in DC (Atlanta, GA 30339)
Date of Stay: 12/17/11 Review Submitted: 12/27/11

Jarek & Paula: Just catching our breath after an incredible week in DC and wanted to send you a note of thanks. The townhouse was wonderful! And the neighborhood and Metro were exactly as others had described. We had everything w/in walking distance; Target, Modells, Red Rocks, CVS, The Heights, Sticky Fingers, Potbelly's, Panera & the Metro...were all places we went for everything from a few extra scarves & hats to medicine (a couple of us were battling colds) and food. As you may have seen from the food we left behind, we bought lots of snacks and ended up eating our way around Columbia Heights & DC instead (always happens to us). All six of us are exhausted! We started w/ Red Rocks & DC Lights tour (a little chilly, but saw lots of things in short timeframe & Christmas look of DC) Saturday afternoon & night. From there it was; The Capital, Supreme Court, Library of Congress, Union Station, Postal Museum, Smithsonian Museums, DuPont Circle for dinner one night, Capitals hockey game Tuesday night, and then the more somber Arlington Cemetery, Holocaust Memorial, and finished with the National Cathedral & Pentagon Memorial Thursday morning on our way to the airport (we used MATS car service, Yelp highly rated & $ reasonable). And we still had 3-4 things we couldn't fit in. Weather was pretty accommodating, especially Weds & Thur. I hope you can see why we're exhausted. One of the best parts of the trip was sitting around the kitchen table each night discussing the days sites and what we liked best and planning the next days itinerary. And in such a beautiful townhome. It was just like being at home, only better...we were in DC! As I mentioned in my first e-mail inquiry, we've rented from VRBO many times; beach, skiing, mountains, lakes, etc...with great experiences and this was another one. In fact, our sons (ages 25, 23 & 21) said of all the "vacations" we've taken, this "trip" was the best. In part, thanks to you! Thank you for sharing your property, I'll be posting some notes & 5 star rating on VRBO about our trip in a couple of days. Have Merry Christmas & Happy/Safe New Year. We'll be back next time we plan a trip to DC.

Everything they say it is...great for our family...we have 2 boys, 7 and 10...it was quiet, an easy walk to the grocery, shopping, and the metro. Easy to get anywhere in DC with the metro...don't bother renting a car. We felt safe and comfortable. We would stay again and highly recommend.

My family stayed here in August and it was a wonderful stay. Everything was as they stated it would be and easy to use and find. Beautifully decorated and very comfortable, clean, and well maintained. Easy access to anywhere in town, as stated, and plenty of information regarding the area and activities. They were helpful in getting us parking permits, answering our questions before arriving, and even when we got to town. I would recommend this property to anyone who is looking for a nice, clean, safe area to stay in DC.

My family vacations at least twice a year and we use VRBO for most. I have never had an experience like this. Jarek and Paula (who I never saw) were so organized and efficient in their planning that our arrival and departure were so seamless, it was as if it was our own vacation home. The condo is immaculate, the location is perfect. Vacation a top 10 in our book. Thanks for the memories! Paula I am looking for a nice one bedroom for next year same time, have any ideas? Stay here! My group of four women just loved it. The decor is crisp, neat and very welcoming. Little things left for us (kitchen-wise) meant alot. No need to go shopping for 1 tsp. of this or that. It's there! We didn't cook, but loved that we had the spices.etc, to add to our breakfasts. The home is welcoming, definately clean. You feel safe in the home. We have rec. to friends already. Go, you won't be disappointed.

Great condo and neighborhood near DC metro

Seven of my out of town college girl friends and I rented this property mid April 2011. I live locally (No. VA) but due to daily, heavy traffic in and out of DC, we decided to rent a condo within the city for easy access to DC sites. This condo is GREAT. Not only is it less than 2 blocks from the Columbia Heights metro stop (no need for a car), the neighborhood offers shopping, grocery and restaurants all within a couple of blocks. The condo was immaculate, nicely decorated, has a full kitchen, three bedrooms, a pullout couch in the living room, a futon in a loft area upstairs and 3 full bathrooms. Perfect for our needs with plenty of space. In addition, the owners, Jarek and Paula, were wonderful with correspondence and answering all of my questions ahead of time. I highly recommend this rental unit!

My sisters and I took my mom to her first visit to Washington DC. We stayed at this wonderful place in Columbia Heights. The condo was very relaxing and comfortable. It was so nice to come home from a day of sight seeing and just relaxing and recapping the day. It was in a great neighborhood and only a block from the metro which made our travels to the sites very easy. I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Washington.

Walked and rode the metro everywhere. The neighborhood is charming, safe, and convenient. Jarek and Paula are wonderful hosts. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Can't wait to return.

We stayed here with our extended family for a few days after Christmas. Jarek was quite friendly and helpful in getting us a parking permit (lots of street parking available). The neighborhood is great with a nice big grocery store nearby, lots of places to eat (our favs - Sticky Fingers bakery and Red Rocks pizza). The metro is very close and easy to use to get to the National Mall. We were also quite impressed with how clean the unit was and the well stocked pantry that greeted us. Each bedroom has its own bathroom, which was quite convenient. We have stayed at a few condos for vacations over the last few years and this is one of the best ones we've stayed at. I'd definitely book it again.

My friend and I stayed here for 8 days in Oct 2010. We wanted our own rooms and bathrooms, so VRBO was much more affordable than a hotel. This was our first VRBO experience. Hope they're all this good. The house was great! Wonderful location. Metro was right there (didn't have to change lines for the airport) as was grocery store and great places to eat / people watch. House is clean and quiet. And everyone in the area was really friendly. The homeowners also provided lots of great information about Columbia Heights and the entire city for us. I would stay here again in a second. This was my first visit to DC and I am already anxious to return. Thanks Jarek and Paula!

This well-located, very well-maintained unit was the perfect base for our stay in DC. The unit is almost brand new. The owners were extremely helpful throughout the booking and check-in and also provided tons of information on where to go eat, what to see and what to avoid. We found that very helpful. Everything is literally just around the corner from the unit, Metro Station, Target, Sticky Fingers Coffee Shop (great for us since we are vegetarians) and tons of other dining and shopping options. There is a large grocery store in the neighborhood center as well as a farmers market (I think, we stumbled upon it Saturday). Would definitely recommend this place.

Everything at the apartment was perfect. We travel on a low budget so the close grocery was important to us. Would never stay anywhere else if visiting DC.

We had a wonderful stay in Washington DC. The metro was close and there was many choices for restuarants and shopping. Not only was the apartment in a great location, but it was well maintained and clean. They stocked the book shelf with maps, local attractions, and books about the area. Plus many take out menues where provided as well. The owner went above and beyond to make sure our stay was fantastic. I would have no problem recommending this property to friends and family.

Our cozy, convenient, very clean and stylish apartment at 3222 13th St served us well when 8 of us stayed through the biggest snowstorm to hit DC in years. We loved the energetic, sophisticated, diverse neighborhood. The convenience of the Metro, variety of stores and restaurants, made it a pleasant adventure when the rest of the city shut down because of the storm.

Jarek & Paula, My stay at your town house was wonderful. The proximity of the grocery store and Metro were perfect. Since we were running the Marine Corps Marathon, we did not do much site-seeing; but spend most of our time in the condo resting and enjoying our own cooking. The accommodations were perfect and the Metro provided easy access to our events. Thanks!

Comment Text: Our group of 8 stayed at this condo for 7 days while enjoying a gals trip to DC. We couln't have found a better area:close to Metro yellow and green;grocery store around the corner;drugstores and restraurants within a walk and close to all the sights of the Capitol area. Some of us walked to the downtown area(about 2 miles using 14th ST). The brownstone easily accomodated 8 women;great furnishings including intranet access. would stay there again in a heartbeat. hosts were a phone call away.

We really enjoyed this condo. When one books something over the Internet, even with photos, one doesn't know exactly what will be found. The lure to be a city-dweller and live like a local for the week convinced us to give it a try. We were very nicely surprised to find this luxurious unit with plenty space and nicely furnished. We had such a wonderful mixture of dining in and dining out. Our son lives about five minutes away and we were very happy to stay so close to him. Whether we were going to the metro - 5 minutes away to travel to downtown or walking down the hill to meet him, we were never far away from the action! We have friends who live out in the suburbs and instead of us going to see them; they enjoyed metroing in, coming to our place and then us showing them around the area. They commented that, though they've lived in the DC area for 25 years, they never had this experience. We were able to introduce them to the city! All the special touches you put around the place made it so convenient to come and set up for a while. We have enjoyed staying here and would recommend this place. William and Katie

We had an absolute wonderful time in DC. Loved the condo, it was just perfect for the eight of us. Very modern, brand new, convenient and spacious. It was great being close to all forms of transportation, and within walking distance to other places as well. We had a blast at the Red Rock Pizza. A cabbie told us to go to the Commonwealth Pub for dinner so we did that for our daughter's birthday. Great food. We were able to tour the White House and Capitol. That was great. Loved the Capitol. Getting to and back from the Mall was very easy with the Metro so close and we timed the ride to the Smithsonian for your next guests. It took exactly seven minutes from boarding the train and getting off at L'Enfant Plaza. Thank you for hosting us in DC. You have a gorgeous home and we enjoyed it very much. Eva

We have many memories of Washington DC and are leaving your apartment exhausted and tired but only because we loved the city and walked every day/night. We loved coming home to our apartment and enjoying all the space it provides. It is also very convenient with grocery store around the corner and all the restaurants (we loved the Pizza place Red Rocks the most and ate there three times during our week here, so thank you for the recommendations).
