West Island is one of New England's best-kept secrets. The earliest seasonal residents to the island were Native Americans who used the island for their summer hunting and fishing grounds. In the 1700's the island was used for farming which continued until almost the 20th century. In the early 20th century, the island became a favored destination for Southcoast residents and others living nearby. Today, you will find people from all over the United States and the World calling West Island home even if just for a short time.
Approximately 2/3 of the island is owned by the State for conservation purposes. There are many trails to explore that lead to private coves and beaches. There are several public beaches on the island, Town Beach among them which was voted Number 3 Beach in New England.
This Home, Ram's View, was completely renovated in the past few years. It offers spacious bedrooms and a wonderful great room. There is an additional sleeping loft with a Futon sofa and both sofas are sofa beds for when your guests simply can't bring themselves to driving home.
The kitchen is fully stocked with appliances, cooking utensils, plates, glasses, you name it. There are also games to play, Cable Television and High Speed Internet. Best of all, you can simply stroll out of the house and walk to your very own private sandy beach.
While the island doesn't have any commercial or retail businesses, they are only a short drive away.
