Fisherman’s Retreat
Think stilt house in the "Caribbean" on the water - a broad protected harbor with immediate ocean access and a 70 foot seawall/dock. Think about boating, fishing, relaxing, listening to music, getting that beat. Then consider you’ll have all the amenities in a newly refurbished, cozily furnished home including a completely functional kitchen.
We sleep six comfortably in three bedrooms: The master has a king-sized bed, the second, two twins and the third has a sleep sofa that is a full-sized bed. For winding down you have a nice-sized HDTV, a DVD player and Wi-Fi if you simply must stay in touch. A utility room downstairs offers a washer and dryer for all those towels and swimsuits.
Now of course if you bring your boat, you’ll have to motor/sail over to the Island Grill for lunch or some music in the afternoon. It’s directly across Snake Creek on the ocean side, just takes a few minutes and a minimum of ambition.
For a slightly longer lazy ride head out of the harbor and one key farther, you’re by the sandbar out from the “world famous Tiki Bar”. You can land or hang on the sandbar with a cold one listening to music from a respectful distance. You didn’t come from the mainland to go to the gym and call your banker, did you?

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 1968
We're old keys afficionados from the early Jimmy Buffet days of AIA. My husband and I after a demanding work life, wanted to escape from the mainland cares without needing a passport to the Caribbean. When our children were young they learned about nature and the environment barefoot. We always have enjoyed boating, fishing and just listening to the breeze through the coconut palms.
Why the Owner Chose Plantation Key
We chose Plantation Key so we could enjoy the island life and then without too much effort, re-enter the work-a-day world as necessary. With a harbor heading straight out into the ocean to our favorite fishing and diving spots, we have been in heaven. We can take off and hang a right, head under the bridge at Snake Creek and we're in the back country fishing for snook if we're lucky.
The Unique Benefits of this House
Entering the door of our cozily furnished house you will know you've arrived in the tropics. Probably we could sit on our balcony and watch the world go by. In our harbor, daily we enjoy the occasional flight of herons, gulls, the songs of mockingbirds or chirps of squirrels across coconut palms. The tarpon roll in the harbor as sailboats pass. Families in various sized boats head out for a day of boating and an old iguana suns himself on the seawall, contemplating the hibiscus and other tropical flowers constantly blooming all around. With a bit more energy we might head down the stairs to the hammock strung between old Jamaican Tall Coconut palms. If we felt like a bit of exercise, we could don swimsuits and with a short walk, practically across the street, go swimming at our community center in either the Olympic swimming pool or the small beach on the bayside. It's all there without needing to get into a car. On our way to the pool, we could stop at the Rain Barrel, a small artist's community and find small or large pieces of art. (Maybe we'll need the car after all).
